Comfort wise, it’s perfect. The other reviewers were right, the larger squared side provides the support I need to work/game in my chair all day. My only issue is the cover does not help it stay in place on my computer chair. I have to buy a new case that I can lock in place, I am readjusting it constantly. I get up frequently and shift in my seat, constantly fighting the cushion sliding off the seat. Oh, and if you don’t put a blanket or something between you and the cushion you’ll end up with square impressions on your skin. Nothing serious, just made my husband laugh. A lot. ... show more

    • Great lumbar cushion, but don't leave it in a hot car exposed to the sun

This cushion is great for lumbar support; the gel structure is cooler and more resilient than a fiber-fill or memory-foam based product. I will likely buy another when I have extra income for other applications. I bought this with Purple's "Portable" cushion as their website suggests that cushion is good for tall people in small cars, though I didn't find that to be true. This back cushion however is a godsend for my Chevy Cobalt's poorly designed driver seat. Criticisms: My advice to purple: Please document what the loops on the back of the cover are for. There is no indication or documentation I could find that describes what to use them for or how to use them, although I found some generic text referencing a "handle" on this cover, which seems to be left over from another cushion. Logic tells me these loops are to secure the cushion to the seat with elastic bands or straps. While this was sold as "New" direct from Purple's Prime store, it did not come in a box like the Portable Cushion. This bothered me because I hadn't selected "no-hassle" shipping and the other cushion came with information about it. The cushion isn't affected by this shipping decision, but I would have appreciated a heads up. Receiving it without the packaging made it feel incomplete, especially when shipped next to the portable cushion. I felt like it was missing important information such as "Don't leave this in a 'superheated' car because it will deform if pressure is applied when heated above 105ºF" and perhaps straps to keep it in place on a seat-back. ... show more

I bought a few different items for hip/back pain when sitting. Although this doesn't collapse like an inflatable, it is a very unique product that really reduces pressure. It has a nice, cool form and is very functional. It's not the cheapest but it is what they say it is.

    • Doesn’t fit my chair very well

My chair’s shape doesn’t work with this product (it’s wide at the top and then narrows down) so no matter how tight I make the strap, it invariably ‘slips’ down after a while. If I move it to a different chair and just lean back on it, that works - but it still needs adjusting periodically.

So, I'll just say, I only used this for one day. I was interested in Purple, as their mattress commercials were intriguing, and when I needed a new butt cushion for my at-home office chair, I thought I'd go for broke and get the Purple chair cushion and lumbar support. They arrived quickly, and I put them both in their sleeves and set them up on my office chair. The next morning I was using them at my desk, when I noticed a weird burning/melting plastic smell. I thought maybe it was my computer, but I couldn't find the source of the smell. For what it's worth, the cushion and lumbar support were fine--my coccyx was still uncomfortable sitting on the 1-1/4" thing cushion, so it didn't seem any better than my previous ~$35 chair cushion, but YMMV. Here's where things get weird: In addition to the weird burning smell, I also started feeling my throat kind of go numb, and needed to clear my throat a lot. It was weird, it was as if someone had sprayed a little bit of chloraseptic in the back of my throat; it felt a little swollen and kind of sensitive, and had the same feel as a chloraseptic. I thought maybe it was something I'd eaten, but my wife and I ate the same thing and she didn't feel anything. The smell would come and go. About an hour into my morning at my desk, with the weird phantom smell and my throat acting up (I thought it was just in my head), I started to get a little light-headed and feel sick. I immediately got up and left the room, and felt better, which is when I started putting things together--the only new thing in my life was the Purple cushions. So I sniffed them, and sure enough, they smelled like the burning plastic smell. My wife suggested it might be temporary, so I turned a fan on and opened the office window, and had the fan blow on the chair with the cushions all night. This morning I hoped everything would clear up, but after working at my desk for about 20 minutes I started feeling that weirdness in my throat again. So, I've only had them for about 24 hours in use, but they literally make me feel sick. I don't have any latex allergy, or really any other allergy I'm aware of, so I have no idea what could be causing it. It could just be me--YMMV--but I will not be buying any other Purple products. Their website says everything is non-toxic and made from food-safe rubber, so I don't know what's going on, but between the smell and the effect on the back of my throat, I'm not keeping these in my house anymore. I'll reach out to Purple as well and report my experience, and will update this if I hear anything back. ... show more
