The media could not be loaded. After doing much research on different fire box inserts and what would work best with my mantle I choose this one. I also read many of the reviews on Amazon too. I was impressed that it was well packaged to avoid damage. If I ever need to return it, it came with clear instructions on how to do so. It was very easy to install. I like the fact that it has handles on the sides for easy lifting. The glass is clear and the flames shows up well. even during the daylight. The heater works enough to take the chill out of the autumn air. My little apartment gets very drafty in the winter so I’m really going to be putting it to the test then. I don’t expect this to be my primary heat source. I wish it had more than three flame settings. It has a high with blue, middle and low with no blue. The remote is a little confusing wish it had an extra button so that I don’t accidentally turn on the heat. the size of remote is small, it would be easy to loose. I like that it has a safety shut off with a thermostat. Would be even bey if it had a sleep timer. I bought a fire cracker several years ago, It makes it very realistic to hear the sound of a crackling fire. I like the brick background. The flames look actually better in person than they do on video. I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend this to anyone looking for an insert . ... show more

The media could not be loaded. This fireplace insert was easy to install, lightweight, and, so far, works well. This insert fit very well into our fireplace. Love the sound and the lighting is reasonably realistic. The background colors are not quite up to par, but are okay. It arrived in good shape in a timely manner. I am concerned that this unit will significantly raise my electric bill. Time will tell. ... show more

    • Just what I needed to fill in where my old gas logs were

My family really loves this electric fireplace. The Western 33 Low size fit just about perfectly in my old builder grade sheet metal fireplace. All I had to do was wire up an outlet in there and slide the insert in. I made a couple of sheet metal extensions to fill in the extra space along the sides. The height was perfect. Overall, the look of the flames is pretty good by electric fireplace standards. The crackling log sound is reasonably convincing. The heat output is good but not fantastic. Definitely take the manufacturer's advice and do not rely on this as the sole heat source in a particular room. I rated 4 rather than 5 stars because of the look of the faux brick surround behind the logs. It lacks texture and isn't very convincing. There are also 2 easily visible plastic zip ties holding the logs down, which doesn't fit well with a fireplace look. Finally, the crackling log sound is only activated via remote. It would be nice if all controls were located in the control panel just in case you lose the remote. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. We had a ventless gas fireplace that was over 20 years old and making our windows dirty with a gray film. Enough. I started looking for electric fireplaces with heat that might fit the insert opening, and came across this Puraflame unit. It had great reviews and fit the opening! It came a week earlier than expected and was packaged incredibly well. After removing the old gas unit and capping the line, this Puraflame slid right in. I only had to add some 3/4” blocking on the bottom to fill a small gap, and covered that with a black painted strip of wood molding. Looks like it was made for the old fireplace cabinet. There was already an electric outlet inside the cabinet, so it was just plug and play. So, this thing is never going to fool anyone, but it really adds a nice feel and look to the room. It’s truly well made and thought out. Solid quality feel. The fake logs aren’t the most realistic, but the lighting effects help hide that. The flames are totally silent, and we don’t care for the fake crackling effects. In the video, you can hear the heater running. It’s pleasantly quiet, and puts out enough heat to stand in front of and warm you right up. This thing is lots of bang for the buck, and we’re happy we chose it. ... show more
