Originally we had a gas fireplace. It looked so fake, blue flame sand unrealistic logs, with perfectly clean red brick background that made it look the fireplace was never turned on. My husband build a new fireplace front to hide the large media box and so that we could hang up our TV but then the issue became that the heat output from the fireplace would roast our tv and sound bar. So after more than a year of having a fireplace that we could not turn on my husband took a couple of hours to put in the electric one. He capped the gas lines and just inserted this puraflame into the gas fireplace opening. It was a perfect fit. Super snug and didn’t even need to be screwed in. Just in time for Christmas. The flames look so much more real, the logs look realistic, and they even made the brick background dark with soot stains. The media could not be loaded. I've been looking at electric fireplace inserts for a while and this price point was at the top of my budget. I had an Amazon gift card to help with cost and I went for this model which has amazing reviews. I'm so glad I chose this one! First, it arrived several days earlier than the estimated delivery date, yay!! It came extremely well-packed and was easy to unbox and locate all the essentials. It is sturdy, made with metal and glass, so I wasn't nervous about handling it to get it unpacked and positioned in my fireplace. I knew some minor prep was needed because the best-fitting unit was a little short for my fireplace opening. I cut a 2x4 board segment and sprayed it flat black (and added another short piece behind it for a level base) to sit under the front edge. This easy fix works and blends in perfectly. Also, I needed the power cord to extend from the left side to reach the nearest outlet, and there was plenty room behind the housing to conceal most of a 6ft heavy duty extension cord. The front trim is perfect and I half-expected the little grate that covers the controls to be plastic, but it is metal like all the black trim. I was so excited to get it plugged in....and yes, the "fire" looks amazing. There are enough crackle sound choices to find one to suit me and while I don't really need the heat, it's a nice feature to add a little extra warmth to the room. There is a low hum to the unit when it is running, even without the fan going, but the crackle sound makes it less noticeable. Tonight is my first evening with it installed and on, and I LOVE it. My mom visited this afternoon and thought I'd had gas logs installed, lol. She was pretty impressed it was electric and a total illusion! The details that really sell it are the nice glass doors and the little safety chain curtain that looks far superior to the flat glass panel on the front of other models/brands. Noting another buyer's concern about the unit tipping out when glass doors are open, I used a bead of hot glue to secure the top edge trim to the tile behind it. My plan B was to apply a couple strips of extra strength velcro, but the glue appears to be doing the trick. Here's hoping this wonderful fireplace insert lasts for quite a few seasons. ... show more

I removed a gas fireplace unit from a fake fireplace and framed the opening to accept this electric fireplace and it fits perfectly. It does have a dangerous issue that I need to report. It does not have a method to secure the unit from tipping out of the opening. When you open the glass doors to clean the glass the unit will tip out of the opening causing a issue with safety. I contacted the manufacturer about this issue and they recommended I purchase magnets to modify the opening to have the magnets hold it in position. I don’t feel that is secure enough so I will have to drill through the tapered trim around the fireplace and secure it to the framing behind the fireplace. I sure don’t want to risk the fireplace falling out of the opening on a small child if they curiously open the glass doors. I realize that if the fireplace fails under warranty they will deny any coverage because of my safety modification. ... show more

Good heat output for my space. The chain screen, glass doors and firebox brick add to a realistic feel. Coupled with choosing the right crackle sound on the unit and my addition of a decorative screen in front, I am enjoying this unit greatly. Came days before it was expected, a huge plus.

This couldn't have worked out better. I did my research and found this product was the best dimensions to replace my old and ugly gas insert. The installation was easy and I love the options of the flames and the crackling sounds. It's great!

This is so perfect, fits beautifully and looks expensive. (It wasn't cheap after all, but it was a whopping $2K less than my local fireplace company wanted to install one. ) My electrician is scheduled to add a box behind it for the plug. In the meantime.... I installed it myself and everything was smooth until I removed the rubber brackets holding the glass doors in place. Each glass door has a metal peg at the top and bottom that allows the door to swing. One glass door is missing the bottom peg, so the door hangs at an angle from the top peg only. It's not like I can just put a screw in the hole....I'm not sure, even if they mailed me a new door, that I'd be able to install it, since the metal frame has no give. UPDATE~~I gave up trying to contact the co. directly and went through the amazon "report a problem" button. Seller sent me a replacement part. I was unable to unscrew the broken peg assembly, but my electrician got it off for me. Seller David was very responsive and helpful. ... show more

I absolutely love this fireplace. Easy to install and good heat output. The flame is perfect. I only gave 4 stars because the handles for the glass doors weren't included and Amazon can't help me at all with this. If I had received my handles, I would definitely give 5 stars.
