  • Good information in this book.
Format: Paperback
Good book for a beginner to train their dog. I’m enjoying this book.

  • High quality book for all levels of dog owners/trainers
Format: Paperback
If you’re on the fence about getting this book, let me tell you that it’s an amazing addition to any dog and/or puppy owner of every level! I myself was unsure about buying it since I already read and collect a lot of knowledgable science-based, & well-written books and I didn’t want to spend this much on a book that may have just repeated information I already knew... I am SO glad I listened to the recommendations of my fellow dog people and bought it! The quality, knowledge, and organization quickly made it a favorite of mine at the same level of Control Unleashed:Puppy Program and Denise Fenzi’s books. Also the size of the book surprised me in a good way. :) It’s a little bigger than the average book with great black & white photos, how-to sections, informative chapters, key points to the side of each page, and listed references at the end of many of the informative chapters. ... show more

  • Socialization is key
Format: Paperback
It is really fabulous. We get a puppy in a few days and hopefully we can follow through with most of the recommendations. We have a family member who is a career dog trainer and she recommended this book above all others and I see why. Fabulous - simple to read -

Format: Paperback
This is a very good book. The emphasis is totally positive for the work you will do with your dog and I love that. I read many dog books and think this one is very good, if you have never read a puppy training book this is the one to start with. Some of it was repetitive for me because I have read so many books. I really like the emphasis on socialization and the positive training techniques. ... show more

  • Very informative and easy to follow.
Format: Paperback
This book was very well written. It covers everything any dog owner should know. It not only explains the different phases your dog will go through, but it covers training in a way that is easy to follow.

  • Well organized and clearly written
Format: Paperback
This book was organized into sections that helped me understand the basics of how dogs learn, how to start training correctly, had information on lots of common behavior problems (how to avoid them and how to deal with them), and outlined the basic commands most people want to teach their dogs. This book was very clear and concise and my new puppy is picking up all the behaviors really quickly. I have read quite a few puppy training books because I am a dog trainer and this one is my favorite; for people who know a bit about dog training and also for those who are new to it. It makes having a new puppy much less overwhelming. ... show more

Essential reading for anyone considering bringing a dog into the family. So much good advice in this book. Over the years, I’ve purchased copies for friends and family contemplating a new puppy or dog.
