  • How to regulate the temperature better
The media could not be loaded. I have trust issues - it's nothing personal. I understood what I was getting into with any lower priced incubator... but I am not disappointed with this one and am sharing my solutions because I want to ensure my eggs have every chance at hatching. The first thing I did was to insert 3 different temp/hygrometers to compare with what the machine reads, while my shipped eggs rested (bottoms up) for 18 hours before placing them in the incubator. (As an Analyst, I have to have more than one source to rely on and this was the easiest way for me.) I compared which temp/hygrometer was most accurate by first comparing the countertop room temp shown vs what my house thermostat shows then compared it with the inside incubator temp (C° conversion to F°). The one that was closest is the one I chose to use in the incubator. When instructions state to use in "an area with no windows", I'd suggest a bigger box to help control temp if your home temp fluctuates. Any way you can find to keep the incubator temp from fluctuating is key... because we understand incubators cannot keep up with the fluctuations very well. Even with the supplied foam, the temp was too inconsistent for my liking, so I did more research. In a video review on a different brand incubator, she advised she used a particular heating pad to help that incubator keep up with the desired temp. That sounded like a good solution for mine also so I purchased a heating pad *I preferred* and discovered it would only stay on for 30-120 minute intervals, which is no good for this project... so I immediately purchased the suggested Sunbeam which does not shut off automatically and, on Medium, helps this incubator (also) stay at the desired temp WHEN I set mine at 38.4°C. The internal temp has been steadily reading between 98-100°F, with one of the gages left inside the incubator, taking up two egg spaces... but I am only incubating 8 eggs so this suits my needs. I was concerned it took me the first 3 days of incubation to discover this and hoped my correction was done soon enough. Yesterday, on Day 5, candled my eggs through the incubator, without opening it, and easily saw 6 of the 8 were developing - I could see faint spots and veins forming. HOW EXCITING! The clear cover is a huge plus for my lack of patience. :) The other two eggs were too far away from the edge but I will candle them all properly tomorrow, on day 7, to remove any that are not growing so they don't contaminate the growing eggs. That said, I do highly suggest the Magicfly rechargeable egg candler for your project also. Overall I am happy with the design and performance so far of this incubator. It turns every couple hours, is quiet, and I believe the temperature regulation is likely needed with most/any incubators so I would not consider this an "unordinary" feature but something to be aware of with all. Have fun... and be sure to dial in the temperature control INSIDE your own incubator as each are unique, whichever you choose, to ensure the highest hatch rate. NOTE: Ideal incubation temp for chickens is 99.5-102°F (103°F will kill the eggs). As long as it stays in this range, and understand it WILL fluctuate within this range each day, you should be set up for a golden hatching. :) ALSO: I am "dry hatching"... which means no water - at all. This unit does not have a hygrometer installed. Maybe they understand it's not necessary and can cause more issues than benefit when using water. However, they do include the connected water bottle for adding water/humidity starting on Day 18-hatching (chickens). Those I know personally who incubate/sell regularly, also use no water during incubation and sometimes lightly mist while hatching. Others have different opinions, but temp is the only thing you should really concern yourself with... until a few days before hatching. LASTLY - my house was at 70°F when these images were taken. Low temp and drowning is what causes most hatching failures. Some fertile eggs are not cheap. Using the incubator, temp/hygrometer, and heating pad I'm able to maintain the desired range. Hope this helps! Enjoy! ... show more

  • Used for quail eggs
Definitely buy a hydrometer, it's a necessity. For quail it should be 99.5 f or 37.5 C. This incubator is in Celsius. I have it set to 38.5c and it's now 99.5 inside, temp is not accurate and a few points off. The water bottle is useless. Humidity for quail eggs is 45. This thing fluctuates like crazy and you have to tip the bottle manually. I have to mess with adding and taking out water. Might just use a sponge instead of the bottle next time. If you have it raised up with the foam block, whole bottle will empty in your incubator within a few seconds. Havnt see the egg turner manually turn the eggs yet but if you press the down button you can manually rotate it. Also I have 30 coturnix quail eggs in my incubator. They all fit nicely 👌 ... show more

  • POOR INSTRUCTIONS
DISLIKES: the instructions included with this product are so poorly written from and end user position as well as terrible grammar. First, there is no parts inventory listing out what should be included in your package. Second, there is nothing in the instructions identifying names of the parts/pieces of the products. Third, there is no instruction on how to properly assemble the product. Fourth, there are buttons onnthe device itself but the instructions do not indicate what those buttons are and/or what they control nor does it explain how to use the buttons. After spending roughly 45 mins with Amazon product support I was able get assistance with identifying parts that were included in my package but it wasn't clear where the parts attached toe device. Support came to the conclusion that they didn't belong to this device and that they actually belonged to an entirely different incubator. Support also during this time frame helped to identify the buttons and what they controlled and how to use them. Also, there is no way to guage humidity innthe incubator and really no way to put a humidity guage in the device. LIKES: once I confirmed with Amazon support that I assembled my incubator correctly (b/c there are zero assembly instructions), it was a very simple assembly, thankfully. It also appear to be very easy to clean. Which on THAT note, the product instructions are SUPER clear on how to clean the incubator. Honestly, I am still not sure If I will keep it or not. ... show more

  • Working well so far
Update: changed to five star as this has worked great for the price range. The below is still true but this is expected for this price range. This item maintained temperature and held a steady humidity level as did monitor closely. Had a 50% hatch rate so far that would have been better but for my stupidity. Giving another couple of days for rest of eggs. Agree with the need to write instructions a little clearer. Need to make temp reading switchable to f over c. Adding water is a bit difficult on refills. Incubating now so no outcome for awhile. Won’t blame on incubator if not good outcome as power went out for 2 hours 11 hours in. Would be nice to be able to measure humidity. ... show more

  • Great product
We got our incubator at the beginning of January and we have never hatched our own baby chicks. But so far we have 5 and one is in the process of hatching now. I would definitely say to give this product a try.

  • Hard to control humidity
There is no way to accurately control the humidity. The water bottle dumps either too much water. Or not enough water. Plus there isn't a gauge. So you have to buy that separately. Other than that it's ok, I guess. If I could get my money back i would.

  • I thought it was pretty good for the price
It hatched 4/6 chickens I like how I literally did nothing except take care of the water. The directions are kinda vague and gave me stuff I have no idea what to do with. The chicks legs got caught under the spinning part but, I think the product is good for the price
