  • Decent sound, decent ANC
Color: Black
I've never owned a pair of ANC headphones or earbuds so at the Prime Days price of $15 I decided to give these a shot. After some real-life usage situations I'm sending them back... but not for the reasons you'd think. My first test was mowing the lawn. I have a riding mower with a small hole in the exhaust. Wearing some sort of hearing protection is a must. It's not enough to wake the neighbors but it is enough to cause hearing damage when you're right on top of it. I've tried noise-isolating earbuds but I have to crank the music so loud it kind-of defeats the purpose. It's been earplugs mostly. These did a pretty good job. They lessened the sound of the mower while allowing me to listen to music at a reasonable level, about the level I'd choose without extraneous outside noise. It got a little unusual when I was using my gas weed eater. The ANC worked just as well as with the mower but when the line would bind up in heavy grass or a thick weed I would get interference. It was like a clicking noise. I don't know if it was because of the sudden changes in sound or because the engine was right next to the phone in my pocket but it was there. It was only mildly annoying but take it as you will. The transparency mode is... odd. I can't judge it against anything else so maybe they're all like this? It picks up *everything* but opening up an omni-directional mic with no filtering is like that. Your brain can push unwanted sounds, especially if at any distance, to the background. A microphone is incapable of determining what is important so it puts everything at front and center. I tested it briefly and the music plays through it just fine. One note. There is no neutral mode. You're either in ANC or transparency mode. I have unusual ears. Nothing else about my physical dimensions conforms to average. Shoe shopping and getting the prescription in my glasses just right are nightmares. I can't use those cheap flat earbuds. They simply have nothing to hang on to. Earpods aren't much better and I apparently have small ear canals so finding the right fit on noise-isolating earbuds can be difficult. I often find myself pushing headphones back in periodically no matter what type they are. These are no different. I'm using the small covers and still have problems. I decided to try sleeping with them on. I'm a side sleeper and these were a no-go. Given their size it wasn't unexpected. They, like many others, rested on a piece of cartilage in the middle of my ear and it was mildly painful. The bottom line: Fit is pretty good but I'm a poor judge of that, very few products fit my ears well Sound quality is good, especially at this price point Noise cancellation is adequate Transparency mode is what it is Yes, I'm sending these back but it has nothing to do with the quality. These just aren't the earbuds for me. ... show more

  • A superb every day earbud
Color: Grey
I'm a local delivery driver in a big rig, so I'm often around high decibel environments and I needed something other than foam earplugs that I have always had to take out and put in (and misplace or drop) while talking to customers. These noise canceling earbuds were a great price, so I gave them a shot and I have to say that I'm very impressed. This was something I hoped I could just put in before work and leave in until home time. My selling point was the "Noise canceling/Transparency" toggle, where at the (2 second) press of a button, the earbuds will switch from canceling out 80% of loud noise around me, to literally acting like a hearing aid ("transparency"). This comes in very handy when I have them in all day, keeping the loud engine noise from slowly withering away my eardrums, and when I make my frequent stops for delivering and talking with customers. I simply touch the earbuds correctly and it switches back and forth. When in "transparency" mode, it's like the earbuds are not even there and I can hear everything around me without any problem. There are two microphones on each bud, one of which is for the phone, and the other is for picking up all sounds and either canceling or channeling it into my ears. When I unpacked these, I charged them fully, then put them to the test. I kept them in my ears for ten and a half hours straight. They were active the entire time, either on noise canceling mode, transparency mode, or listening to music/podcasts. I thought they'd die in five hours or so. But after my shift and when I made it home almost 11 hours later, I checked my bluetooth connection and they still had 40% power left. I was pleasantly surprised. Regarding phone use, the three previous earbuds I've used, I have been unable to talk on the phone with them. The mics were just too pitiful to be able to pick up my voice, especially when driving. I had to eventually use one with a boom mic attachment. But these marvelous buds have zero issue. The phone mic on these picks up my voice clearly while driving, and doesn't cut out or sound bad on the other end. I asked a few trustworthy associates what I sounded like, and they all agreed it was as if I was in a phone booth. The earbuds actually take the background sound and cancel it out, or mute it or something. Whatever the tech that's being applied here, I like it. A word on music. The sound quality is good. I might say it was great if you were sitting in a quiet place. But with noise around you, even with noise canceling activated, the sound is good. I kept the volume down lower than I did with previous earbuds I've owned. With these, I didn't need to have it high. I rocked to music and could hear podcasts pretty well, even when it was in transparency mode, so I have no complaints. For earbuds, they work very well as an every day item. They fit in my ears well, and don't slip around or bounce out if I turn too quickly (like other earbud models have). I dropped each of them onto pavement from about five feet high (only once), no breaking and the rubber earpad stays attached. All in all, these are highly recommended. Time will tell if they continue to work fine, but for my first day with them, I'm sold. Remember, breathe deep, be present, and protect your hearing! ... show more

  • Stylish and Compact
Color: Grey
I tried these headphones for personal use (walking around) as well as for working out (to the gym, and some jogging) and these performed very well. It comes with nice matte black charging case, charging cable, and multiple sizes of earbuds. Initially, I thought the charging case was a little big (~1.5"x2.5") but I mainly put it in a duffel bag or backpack, so it's not a problem. Here are some pros: -The earbuds fit snugly in the ear, and they surprisingly do not fall out even when I jump rope or jog. I thought it would have trouble staying in since it didn't have an earhook like some other sports earphones. They're light and comfortable. -I'm not an audiophile, so I can't speak on the quality of the sounds or bass, but they did the job for me. I like how it has a "transparency mode" that allows you to hear voices and sounds when you still have the music on. I primarily used this mode, and I had the volume relatively low and was able to hold a regular conversation. Not sure if it was all in my head, but it did feel like those speaking to me were more audible. -The battery life and range are good too. I was able to have a Bluetooth range of over 20 feet. I tried keeping the earphones on playing music for 5 hours straight and it was fine - I haven't tried anything longer than that. I only have one small con: this is nitpicking, but it does take a bit to learn the functions (e.g. tapping once pauses, tapping twice skips to the next song, holding it for a few seconds does something else). It takes a while to learn, but it's probably the only way to pack these features into an earbud. Overall, it's something I'd be happy to use regularly ... show more
