Description

Why choose Protopasta Midnight? Each spool is unique so each print is unique. A variety of colors with the consistent results you expect from Protopasta. How do I print Midnight HTPLA? HTPLA prints like PLA.Use typical build surfaces with Magigoo for improved adhesion & release. When unwrapping a spool, secure loose filament end in your fingers, cardboard spool side corrugation, or 3d printer extruder to avoid loops & tangles. HTPLA is not abrasive. Max particle size is 0.1 mm. 0.6 mm nickel plated brass nozzle & heater block sock recommended for more reliable printing. A small gap between 1st layer extrusions helps avoid restriction.Choose 2 mm internal diameter tubing like Capricorn TL (light blue) w/ no play at connections. XS (dark blue) is <2 mm & creates extra resistance. Consider hard extruder gears like from Bondtech. A starting point for typical 3D printers like Prusa or Creality w/ 0.6 mm nozzles is 0.63 mm extrusion width, 0.25 mm layer thickness, & 20+ mm/s speed for 3+ cu mm/s volume rate w/ 3 walls & 5 top/bottom layers <2 cu mm/s rates can be problematic. For 0.4 mm nozzles try 0.44 mm extrusion width, 0.22 mm layers w/ 21+ mm/s speed & for 2+ cu mm/s rate w/ 3 walls & 4 top/bottom layers. Choose the lowest fan setting for a good surface (typically 20-60%). Avoid fan speed changes, cooling slowdowns, overlaps, & gap fill. Choose infill <100% & mind your max volume rate especially for infill. Nozzle temp depends on hotend, nozzle type, & volume rate, but 200-240 C can be ok. Beware of steel, ruby, or other restrictive, low thermal conductivity nozzles that restrict flow or require higher temps. Choose lowest nozzle temp for good layer adhesion & reliable flow. Consider a single wall part to verify flow, layer adhesion,& extrusion width. Adjust temp for inner-layer adhesion & flow to match physical extrusion width to software setting. Need help printing? • Excellent for printing light diffusers
Color: Htpla Iridescent Ice Clear, 500g
Objects printed with this are absolutely gorgeous. It's not perfectly clear, but has a slight translucency which catches and refracts light in a cool way. Where it *really* shines, in my opinion, is when it's heat treated. When heated to above 110°C, it turns a semi-opaque milky white that diffuses light, making it perfect for light pipes and LED diffusers for my electronics and model projects. For smaller and/or flatter parts, I've been heat treating them right on the heated bed by turning the temperature up for a few minutes after printing. The heat treating process also seems to make it easier to file and sand, which is an added bonus. The only con I can think of is the cost, but it's a quality product that prints perfectly, and it's made here in the US, so it's worth the extra cash in my opinion. ... show more

  • Surprisingly Awesome Recycled Filament
Color: Recycled Pla Black, 1kg
I was expecting less consistency in layer adhesion, since this is a recycled. Sometimes, impurities in the bulk processing of recycled filament leads to issues, but this wasn't the case. This filament is great! Since I've been branching out into higher quality pla, I had to see about grabbing some protopasta. This was on sale. That being said, I'm having some adhesion issues, but I'm pretty sure that's due to switching to a G10 bed. My prints have been coming out stronger than I thought was even possible with pla, and that's with 7% infill. This spool really sold me on spending the extra dollars. ... show more

  • Meh
Color: Htpla Empire Strikes Black, 500g
The recycle filiment is ok for what it is. But works print as nice as the cheaper china stuff. I like US made stuff, but the other spools are $30 for 1/2 KG. So it's WAY more expensive than the china stuff by a huge amount.

  • Use a bigger nozzle, and make sure your adhesion game is strong
Color: Htpla Nebula Multicolor, 500g
It looks great and is a really strong print. It can be a little finicky to print with, just make sure you use a .5 or higher, I used a .6 nozzle and was having a terrible time until I washed my build plate. Apparently, I'd touched it and didn't clean it properly and while my other filaments had no problems, this one came up every time. When I washed my plate and got some settings zoned in, I had success, and it was beautiful. ... show more

  • Solid product so far, with 1 exception
Color: Recycled Pla Black, 1kg
I like how this looks and I like that it's recycled, but I cannot seem to fix the stringing problem. I'm printing with an ender 5 pro, and the filament it came with didn't string like this stuff does. I've tried a dozen videos solutions with no luck.

  • N64 Colour?!
Color: Htpla Nebula Multicolor, 500g
Overall, I'm more impressed with the colour than the Filament itself. I would say the print quality was average / "okay". But I did enjoy the N64 atomic purple vive I got from the prints. It was quite enjoyable to make some classic Nintendo themed prints.

  • Amazing color transition for the Nebula color!
Color: Htpla Nebula Multicolor, 500g
This is great filament and it is beautiful to boot. Prints smooth and have no had any issues with over/under extrusion. Even though this has a small amount of glitter to it, it has not wreaked havoc on my .04 Nozzle at all! Highly recommend this product.
