  • Not Suitable for Counter Top Mount, Will NOT Fit Most 12" Miter Saws
Style: Portable
This is a review of the "5-in-1 Station". I bought this and the portable "Workstation" to allow me to quickly switch between built-in workbench in my workshop to portable use in garage or outside. Issue #1: The product description does not give any dimensions other than the distance between mounting rails. I figured it would work as the product title says it's "Universal". The rails are MUCH TOO SHORT. The maximum horizontal distance is 19", and my Hitachi 12" compound miter (non-sliding) saw has a 23" C-C between mount holes (24" overall). There is an offset mount bracket that might have worked, but this was not provided with the "5-in-1 Station" mount. There are only 2 offset brackets in the portable "Workstation", and I would have needed 4. It would still be a tight fit if it did work. I suppose this might be a good product if you had a tiny 8" miter saw. Issue #2: The height is too high to mount on a counter top height workbench. My workbench is actually 33.5" high while the standard in U.S. is 36". The height of the saw cutting surface to counter top is 11.5". The combined height make the "5-in-1 Station" mount way too high to safely operate. You'd have to be at least 6 foot 6 inches tall to reach the top of the handle. Issue #3: The sturdiness of the "5-in-1 Station" mount is reasonable, but not nearly as sturdy as the portable "Workstation". The rails are almost loose with only a small set screw to hold it in place at each end. The stamped holes with set screws to the rails do not hold the mounting brackets square. So you have to layout the brackets with a square to bring stability to the "5-in-1 Station". The holes in the brackets are drilled for small wood screws. I would have to re-drill them to use any size bolt suitable for nut-and-bolt installation. A better design would be to have welded collars and larger drilled mounting holes. I've edited my review as Amazon considers all products to be the same product when they are very different. Title to Review of Contractor Miter Saw Workstation: "Works Great IF You're a VERY SHORT Person" Above I mentioned that the "5-in-1 Station" was good for very TALL people, now this "Workstation" is good for very SHORT people. It is 5" lower than a good height. (See picture comparing it to my Skill workstation.) I returned the "5-in-1 Station" because it was completely unusable. This one so far I don't plan to return as I'm impressed with the ease-of-use, quality, and design. If it weren't for the short legs, I'd give it a 5-star rating. I plan to install a solid oak spacer to bring the working height to something more suitable for use outside and in the garage. Without a custom-built spacer, I'm concerned that the extremely low operation height will give me back pain should I use it for a long time. I'm also concerned about SAFETY. If I'm working outside, while it would be unusual, it would be possible for children to wonder into my yard and possibly turn on the saw out of curiosity. Running back and forth to my project, I do not unplug the saw each time. If I take a break then I usually do. The low height make it very easy for children to access and operate the saw with this stand. ... show more

  • Major flaws. Deck builder by trade.

Hoped it would be a better stand than the dewalt/milwaukee stand. Bought for the plug really. The main issue I have is the arms that extend out to hold your longer materials DO NOT remain flat. Due to the construction of the stand there is too much play to allow assembly which gives way to the arms rotating out of level with the miter saw itself. The tires on the stand are a bit undersized for the way the stand is to be rolled. It's uncomfortable to roll with the saw on due to rotational rolling (left to right) with the wide weight of the saw and narrow axle width. It does easily fold up. The quick attach system for the saw works well too. The gfci plug is nice to have since I work outside. I would not spend my money on this again. A few minor changes and this would have been a great stand. ... show more

  • thumb down, especially custumer service...
Style: Professional
i am very happy for all people that are happy with their bench... my journey started with damaged box, already. half of the box was barely staying together. cut the taped up box, which right away opened in half and my eyes saw all the parts out of plastic... i didn’t buy used stand! contact the seller: they can’t do anything just for me to put the think together. when you once put it together, who wants to put back to the box!... i am easy going, i just do not like when costumers service points finger at delivery guy! since i have cameras, i see how my packages arrive. i payed for NEW item...not used and dented and scratched. since this was a gift...i need it to be standing ready to go for my boyfriends B-day. instructions are horrible! no manufacture videos how to put together = you are on your own. since is very heavy, it’s sturdy. when i got this thing together, i wouldn’t want to move this. i wouldn’t feel comfortable to move it with the saw together. i own dewalt portable stand for dewalt saw and i love it. light, sturdy and easy to move around with it. if you looking to stay in one place for long time it’s great for you. comparisons: my sweetie used dewalt stand wright from the first day and protocol is still standing awkwardly and taking space... for our need i think was not a great buy. got used item!!!!!! the photos where taken the same day i got this item and now is months later and my other half never used it :( ... show more

  • Good Customer Sevice

Like robotecks (see his review), I just received my stand with the same pieces missing. No MA-0116 (longer) mounting brackets, and no outlets included (even tho there is an opening in the end of the stand to accommodate them). The stand is unusable and will need to be returned if not corrected. Update 8/26/2017: Have worked with Protocol representative (Lindsey) with all concerns addressed, and parts replaced. In the end, it is an excellent stand and supports my 12" Ryobi compound sliding miter saw very nicely. Several of the threaded holes were a bit coarse (not milled well) which created minor damage to the thread on a knob handle, but that was replaced immediately. The electrical outlet is only available on the professional model, but after having used the stand, it would have little use anyway. To address another comment, the legs next to the wheels can be stored first so stand can be wheeled with saw attached, but it's easier to remove a heavy power tool (mine weighs close to 40#). If you have a relatively smooth floor, cupped furniture sliders work quite well. Overall, it is a very good stand at a good price with excellent customer service. ... show more

I am a contractor and first I want to say that I got rid of my 12 inch sliding mitre saw and purchased a cordless 7.25 sliding mitre saw and got this stand. It is a really nice stand and has quite a few good features the best being how compact it is. It is very sturdy and really my only complaint is it is very heavy like as heavy as the really long yellow and black ones. I was going for size in the back of my truck and so it does the job but it is heavy. ... show more
