We purchased this for our handicapped son who has down syndrome and autism. He can walk OK, but sometimes he gets tired of walking if you have to walk far, and sometimes he (for whatever reason) doesn't really want to walk in the direction you want to go. So occasionally we've wanted a transport chair we could put him into. We're planning on going to Disneyland for 5 days in November with him, where we usually put in 10+ miles of walking/day, and so we feel like we need something like this for him. When I unboxed the chair I was impressed with the quality, which I felt was pretty good for a $100 transport chair (I had pretty low expectations). It worked great on the carpeted and hard surfaces in our home. We then took it to a local park to test it out on a variety of surfaces. There were smooth sidewalks, rougher sections with blacktop, and there were also brick paved sections that were even rougher. It was on these rougher sections where the limitations of this transport chair are exposed. On rougher sections it feels a little flimsy. I read a few reviews where folks said they had bent one of the front wheels. I felt that this would be possible, especially if carrying a heavier person. Our son is about 5' tall and weighs only 130 lbs. I wouldn't want to carry someone much bigger than that in this chair on anything but a smooth surface. I felt this even on the blacktop paved sections, which were not that rough. You could feel the chair bend and flex as it went over embedded rocks. There was a rough dip or transition between two paved sections where the front wheels really got hung up as I tried to push through it. If I hadn't been more careful I think I could've bent the frame around the wheels when going through that. My biggest complaint is with the quality of the tires on the wheels. They are really cheap, hard plastic. They remind me of the wheels on my first skateboard 40+ years ago before they knew how to make good skateboard wheels. They'd hang up on even the smallest rocks. This wheelchair does that too. When you hit a small pebble on a smooth sidewalk sometimes it will screetch to a halt rather than roll over it. This makes it roll a lot rougher than it needs to over rougher surfaces. Better wheels that could absorb bumps better and roll over stuff better would be a *huge* improvement. I'll probably search around and see if I can buy some aftermarket. Overall I think this chair is worth the price, but I wouldn't recommend it for anyone bigger than about 130lbs. I also wouldn't want something like this for someone who is not at least somewhat ambulatory - if my son couldn't walk at all I'd worry it'd break somewhere and leave us stranded, and I'd want something a lot more reliable/sturdy if that was the case. It's great/sufficient for our son who can walk fine, and only really needs it when he's tired.

I wanted something light weight & this fit the bill. Well made & great value. Burgundy trim color makes it easy to see & distinguish from other wheelchairs you might see in hospital, clinic, etc. The person I bought this for weighs 140 lbs. She says it's comfortable and really likes the lock feature on the wheels for safety. This has been one decision I'm glad I made and would buy again! Add a thick cushion to bottom for added comfort if sitting a long time. Also makes rising from the chair easier as the person is sitting a couple of inches higher in the chair.

This was exactly the transport chair we were looking for. Very easy to assemble the foot supports. We appreciated the brakes on both sides. Lightweight, but sturdy enough. We went the extra mile and purchased a nice 3 inch thick seat cushion. Perfect !

The handles and footrests move a bit as they go down and the rests come off. The best thing is the firm seat, and the seat from the floor is higher than my previous chair, that's a bonus. Tires are very large, so it can most likely go off into the park or other grassy area, not sand. Would have given it 5 stars if it wasn't for the very bumpy ride.

Mom's normal wheelchair we use for shopping weighs 40lbs, it was hurting me to lift it. This one not only is easy on my back, it folds and fits in my trunk. We only use a wheelchair for shopping, as she can't walk long distances. This wouldn't be good as someone's permanent mobility device, as the back wheels wouldn't allow them to move themselves. But it's great for shopping trips or doctor visits.
