  • Audiophile quality turntable at a good price
Size: T1 Color: Satin Walnut
First. I had a Project Primary and am comparing it with the T1. The T1 is new plug and play audiophile turntable, but the features that it has are in much more expensive ones. The T1 is a turntable that is a must to have with a decent audiophile amplifier if you really want to hear its benefits. I am using an Emotiva TA-100 amplifier and a couple of"modified myself" Dayton Audio MK442 monitors with a subwoofer. I also have an acrylic mat which improves sound. The version of the T1 I am using is the bare basic model. The REAL glass platter (something you find on Rega turntables) improves sound quality by using the weight to stabilize speed and the viscus liquid of the glass creates an excellent vibration and reflection reducer found on more expensive turntables. Do not be fooled by it's thin appearance. It has plenty of control to create a virtual silent noise floor. The sub-platter uses anti-vibration materials and reinforced ridges and contacts the glass plate on the edges to further reduce vibration transfer. Micro density fiberboard (MDF) plinth has minimal holes and the sub-platter rests on a brass bearing and the sleeve has a 0.0001 inch tolerance. (Setting the sub-platter spindle down into the sleeve actually holds air pressure as is sets into place and you have to wait for the air pressure to release before it sets down completely. That's HOW precise it is! The cables that come with it are not cheap. They are low resistance gauge quality cables. An alignment protractor and stylus tracking force scale comes with it, just incase you want to fiddle with it, but the turntable should come aligned and tracking force set at factory. In honestly, mine came NOT set. No big deal to me because I was going to check it anyway... just to make sure. The tone arm has brass bearings. And they are feather lite with no resistance. But, the strange thing is there is no anti-skating adjustment. The tone arm is actually optimized not to skate. (That is what most people are saying. There is no counteractive force stopping the centripetal force from happening, but uses a drop a down weight. This causes the balancing point on the rack and pinion bearings to be slightly behind the fulcrum reducing the centripetal force. (Don't believe me?) Tie a nut to some fishing line. Make a loop on a piece of thin stiff wire and stick the bottom of it on the plinth with some putty on an angle so the loop is sticking up. Loop one end of the fishing line, put it through the wire loop and attach it onto the head shell and place the nut on a digital scale. Let the needle drop onto an acrylic mat (you can do that without damaging the record) and measure the force when the string stops the tone arm and tightens the string. It came out to 0.04 grams of centripetal force at 2 grams of tracking force on the stock om5e. The Om is a cartridge that is a superior tracker providing above average ability to stay in the groove. Testing with headphones I found no customary distortion caused by excess centripetal force riding the inner groove. It does what it is supposed to do. Now damage to the record is another story. It won't stop skipping from damage. But even if you tried to use more force if you could... it would cause distortion. All in all, after checking it all out the sound quality of the Pro-Ject T1 is fantastic as long as you have equipment to allow it produce what it can give you and since other turntables that use real glass platters can cost twice as much, I believe the T1 is the best value and is built to do the job! ... show more

  • Beautiful but lost power on first day
Size: T1 BT Color: Walnut
Looks great and sounds great. Originally put 5 stars but updating with 3 because it lost power on the first day. We had to replace the cord and it seems to be working fine now. Will update again if anything else goes wrong.

  • Not a review for a free product. I paid for mine.
Size: T1 Color: Satin Walnut
Well, after a long search I was very excited that I finally deciding on a a new turntable. My T1 came nicely packed with no sign of any issues. Once opening I discovered a couple of major concerns... First, the counter weight was separated from the tone arm and lying within the wrapping. I also noticed bearing oil that had dripped across the top of the turntable. I was just too excited to allow this to stop my listening test, so I continued on and cleaned the top and pushed the tone arm back together and set up the player with one of my albums to play through my Denon AVR receiver. Well, I could not get this player to produce any sound. After a handful of attempts I packed it up and returned it to Amazon. I gave it one star for the quality of fit and finish and good packaging. -4 for everything else. I am going to re-order with my fingers crossed that Pro-ject quality control is better than this first attempt. If not, I plan to order a different turntable. Stay tuned. UPDATE- 2nd try was a charm! My new T1 came triple boxed from Amazon and in perfect condition. After quick set up, I immediatley started rockin. Sound is top notch! Bumped my review from one star to 4! Nice recovery Pro-Ject... Love it!! ... show more

  • Sounds Great, Aesthetically Pleasing. Just a couple small issues.
Size: T1 Phono SB Color: Walnut
While shopping for a new turntable my gf wanted to make sure I picked out something that was sleek and beautiful as it would be prominently displayed in our living room. This turntable is pretty. The design is understated and elegant. Now, the important stuff. The sound. It sounds great using the onboard phono preamp through my powered Klipsch "The Sixes" speakers. My jazz records come alive on this turntable and hip-hop sounds amazing. I have had a couple issues though. One, Pro-ject claims that there is no need to adjust the cartridge or counterweight but I am having trouble with the tonearm skating when it is initially lowered onto the beginning of my records. It often violently skips a few seconds into the first track of the recording. The other issue is that the spindle seems a little bit to big. Some of my records get stuck. I almost broke a copy of John Coltrane's "Giant Steps" trying to get it off of the turntable. Over-all I am happy with my purchase and have been really enjoying it. ... show more

  • BT model not recommend
Size: T1 BT Color: Black
This turntable is beautiful. Easy to set up. However, the bluetooth doesn't work well. It takes a long time to get the turntable to connect to my bluetooth speaker but the sound keeps going in and out. I tried to reconnect many times but still couldn't fix the issue. I also tried my SONY bluetooth headphone and it didn't pair up at all. I was kind of disappointed since the BT model cost more than the other two models available and it didn't work. I won't recommend others to buy the BT model. But overall this turntable is beautiful and it sounds nice. P.S. this turntable does not have an auto-return/auto-stop feature and you have to manually adjust the belt to switch the speed from 45 to 33 or vice versa. ... show more
