Description

The Debut EVO 2 focuses on the core aspects that make a turntable sound great. Technically correct design – expert craftsmanship – handmade in the EU. It doesn‘t only complement the lightweight tonearm sound-wise, it also looks stunning on the turntable. Our phono specialists again teamed up with the cartridge experts at Ortofon from Denmark to work on this new cartridge. The cartridge is made from a unique combination of technologies. One of which is Ortofon‘s well known split pole pins. This enables it to have a flat frequency response, which is comparable to MC cartridges. The new Debut EVO 2 is the first turntable where we included the RCA output box and the power socket into the plinth. The result speaks for itself. As the skating force varies between the inner and outer grooves of the vinyl record, our anti-skating mechanism adjusts accordingly. The Debut EVO 2 features an 8.6‘‘one-piece carbon tonearm design. The tonearm delivers an insane sound quality with a convincing sound stage. The precise CNC-milled aluminum bearing offers very low friction and the best stability. Our high-quality AC motor is mounted into a proper suspension system which consistently reduces vibrations.

The Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 would be an excellent addition to any audiophile’s entertainment system. The wood finish is solid, heavy, and extremely well made. The setup process was a breeze, especially if you have speakers with a built in phono pre-amp. The sound quality produced by the updated Ortofon/pro-ject cartridge is definitely a step up from the debut carbon evo. My one minor word of warning is that the anti-skate weight sometimes comes off of the tone arm if you accidentally touch it while changing records. This can definitely be fixed if you have more precise fingers than I do, by making a smaller and tighter loop that attaches to the tone arm, but for me it isn’t that big of an issue. Other than that, if you’re a fan of Pro-ject, or are just looking for a superb turntable, this is the one for you. You won’t be disappointed. I was torn between the new wine red or wood option, so that was the hardest part in deciding for me. I wound up going with the walnut option, but are stunning. I must be having a midlife crisis because I just woke up and decided I needed to start listening to records again. I chose a price range, below top of the line yet above entry level. Then I researched what’s available. I watched YouTube videos, I used AI and read everything I could find. I picked this because it won on quality and the company’s story made up for my it’s “made overseas” worries. Putting it together was straightforward, although setting the tonearm requires some patience. Back to YouTube for a video from someone other than the manufacturer (who doesn’t cover it in depth on their unboxing video). The music sounds great, I love chilling to the same artists I listen to as a teen. Now it’s time to build an album collection. There’s something about going through the motions of playing a record that makes it so much richer than using a mouse to click on a song. ... show more

I bought the Pro-Ject Debut Evo 2 and couldn't be happier with the purchase. I had the Fluance RT85, and the Evo 2 is a definite upgrade in quality. The Fluance was a good turntable which I enjoyed but the Evo 2 is simply engineered better ,and brings out the quality in my stereo system. I have a 2.1 setup and the separation and clarity from each speaker is clearly noticeable. It was also easy to set up (with the help of a You Tube video) and took about a half hour. The Satin Gray looks good and fits the look in my entertainment room. Kudos to Gramophone for the Black Friday deal! ... show more

    • A great well built truntable
This turntable, at $800.00, is a great buy. The table is solid, inert, and stable. The tonearm is the winner here. It is feather-light and responds well to a proper setup. The speed is stable and well-controlled. You would have to spend quite a bit more to get better sound and performance. Pro-ject has perfected the art of turntable builds, and there is a lot to be said for being crafted in Europe rather than China. It is a solid buy, and you can't go wrong. The one thing I may do after a period is change the cartridge. We will see. ... show more

Had I known that spending $700 turntable could make this big a difference, I'd have done it decades ago.     • Pricey with some minor issues but overall good
This is my first record player so I have nothing to compare it to, but everything has been great so far aside from the needle drop lever thing is already having issues, in that it doesn't full descend to allow the needle to make contact with the record. Its also very pricey and fully manual, some things to consider relative to other record players you may be eyeing. Once a record is done playing, there is nothing to stop the needle from endlessly spinning, whereas other record players can lift the needle and go back to its starting position. ... show more
