Papery substance sometimes breaks, but over all, they hold up well and can handle a fair amount of liquid, if you wait too long. Way better than the alternative! I recently took a fall that sent me to the hospital and rehab. At rehab they gave me this underwear as a precaution against "accidents." I am very happy with this underwear. The fit is good, they are very stretchy, and they do the job without being too bulky. I would definitely buy them again.
