  • Great little antenna for the money
Style: Fixed Angled Whip
Great little antenna. They say it has a range of 5-6 miles, but I think that is more mobile to mobile. I spoke to a base station the other day that was easily 15+ miles away. Terrain & other obstacles shorten the range.

  • Good, not great.
Style: Fixed Angled Whip
4 stars only because it appears to be tuned for the upper half of the CB range. I’m using a Cobra 75 All road in a Toyota Tacoma ‘18. The Virginia is mounted driver side rear of the roof (I also have a ham antenna room mounted). So fat channels 1-19 are 2.5:1 roughly, with CH 19 at around 2.0:1. CH 20 is around 1.8:1 with CH 40 near 1.2:1. It’s all workable as it’s under 3.0:1 but I wouldn’t use this if you work the lower band all the time. I plan on moving the antenna to the middle of the roof to see if having a more uniform ground plane helps. A short CB antenna will never be perfect, that’s just physics. This does the job despite those drawbacks. If you’re only using CB for local comms on the road and need a small footprint, this is a solid solution. ... show more

  • At least 5 miles AM.

Vast improvement over my handheld's (President Randy III) rubber duck antenna.

  • "Engineered to be the very best" "Engineered to be the very best"

As others have stated, this is well built with a strong magnet. And the antenna cable is a little small in diameter. But I care about performance. So I tested the antenna with my NanoVNA, and it's frequency coverage (when mounted as shown) is spot-on. The markers in the photo are the 10 dB return-loss frequencies (26.85 and 27.40 MHz), corresponding to channels below 1 and basically up to 40. The VSWR at these frequencies is 2:1 - which is absolutely fine. Only 10% of power out of the radio is reflected and the rest is emitted. So range and receiver sensitivity are going to be excellent. Between these two frequencies, the RL reaches almost 40 dB which is a near perfect 1:1. But I don't care about that. 2:1 or better is good. Kudos to President Electronics for making such a small antenna work this well. As their slogan goes, their stuff seems to be "Engineered to be the very best". :-) ... show more

  • Cable too thin
Style: Fixed Angled Whip
Antenna cable is too thin. It's good for easy ingress to the vehicle, but too thin for much output power

  • Enough said
Style: Fixed Angled Whip
I’ll be quick. I’m new to cb did a little in the past. I have all new Uniden 885, with 5 or six antennas that all register 7 on ref power. This antenna plug and play registered 1 on ref. from the start….every time. Finally got what I was looking for. I didn’t have to make any adjustments and even when I did, just playing around, it was still 1. Enough said. ... show more

  • Great reception and looks good!
Style: Fixed Angled Whip
I highly recommend the President Virginia fixed antenna. This is by far the best magnetic antenna I have found for my CB. Worked straight out the box with low SWR. Give it a try!!

  • Better than expected range
Style: Fixed Angled Whip
On AM, both cars with legal 4 watts, one car had President New Virginia, other car had Wilson Little Wil. Between cars in rural flat open area, got over 4.5 miles actual range with S4 signal- I expect probably 6+ miles till below noise floor. 3 miles was good signal over interference. However, in real world varying conditions, average range of any antenna is reduced. On the interstate, I hear semi trucks good for 2-3 miles, up to perhaps 5 miles. The semi trucks hear me well up to 2 miles. This is with legal 4 watt AM radio as well. To base stations, 5-10 miles is possible if open terrain and low noise. SSB increases range with this and all antennas- up to10-15 miles with low noise and open terrain conditions. Have used this in several vehicles-RG174 cable is another key feature few CB antennas have. It fits through almost any door seal. A Wilson Little Wil mounted in the same location will always outperform this antenna, but practical factors like getting into garages may dictate a New Virginia size antenna. Good for family members or friends who don't want a big antenna. Better to have a New Virginia on a car roof rather than a longer antenna in a bad location. ... show more
