I wasn't l00king for low priced (cheapest) pin drill sets, but here we are. I have to say it's pretty darn nice. They weren't kidding about the bearings in the handle. Very sm00th! Everything else looks fine. I'll be just dealing with plastics etc so I don't suspect the bit material we'll be a issue. The mini-paint brush and tweezers didn't need to be included (really). Strangely, it is a COoL little paint brush. I'm not sure what the brush? is on the shaft... But then again I'm weird. I would buy this again.

When I was a silversmith, I had a random collection of pin vises, collets and drill bits. Most of these items came to me serendipitously, rather than by design, and I didn't much care about the size of the bits. My only concern was that at least one of them made a hole large enough to allow me to insert a jeweler's saw blade. If the hole needed to be enlarged, I had some files to use to do that. The pin vise in this set is well made of an aluminum alloy. The collet end is pretty standard, but the butt end is exceptional. There is a red anodized cylinder that may be removed using a 1.5mm hex bit. A tiny ball or roller bearing at each end of the cylinder allows it to spin freely, which means almost no resistance, so very low hand fatigue. The default collet has four cuts which allow the screw-on chuck to tighten around a drill bit shaft tightly. The set includes another collet which has no cuts and no purpose, that I have been able to figure out. The jaws are slightly thinner than the default collet but it can't be tightened. One of the pictures in Amazon under the Product Description says that the kit includes 2 4-jaw chucks, so I suspect that they just forgot to make the cuts in one of the collets. I don't know if this is an anomaly with this particular set, or if it is like this with all sets. The set also includes a nice big fine-bristle brush and a fine-pointed, curved pair of tweezers. The pointy end of the tweezers are perfect for removing splinters or wood ticks. As another reviewer mentioned, the plastic drill bit cases were a very annoying mystery that required a lot of wasted time in figuring out how to open them. The secret is revealed in the accompanying video. The bits themselves seem to be overkill. Personally, I don't think I will ever use any of the 0.x mm bits. The smallest bit, 0.1mm, broke before I tried to use it. The other hair-like bits are so tiny and delicate that I can't imagine any application where they would be required. The larger bits, from 1mm up to 2mm, are a different story. They are well-made and sharp, and the tenth-millimeter size gradation means I can drill any precise hole that may be required. There are so many good features that I almost regret the four-star rating. However, there is no paperwork... no contact or warranty information; no user manual to speed up figuring out how to open the cases; and no source for replacement bits. And the bad QC for the uncut collet... Four stars.

The pin vise is very nicely machined, and the spinning cap is smooth enough to fidget with (it can spin for upwards of 30 seconds). The smoothness of the machining means that it can be tightened more than other cheap pin vises I've gotten in the past, and the thicker shank on all the drill bits helps with holding power a good deal as well. Getting a full set of collet sizes is a nice bonus as well, even if you don't need them for the included bits

This is shipped with two collets that fit the shank size of the supplied drill bits. There is no way to use it with a wide variety of different size drill bits like a traditional pin vise. However, with the Dremel collets you can use it for a wide variety of drill sizes. They should have been included. Also, you can't use the tool in a traditional manner where your forefinger applies downward pressure and stabilizes the tool while you turn it with your other fingers. Your forefinger slips off the rounded top. On the bright side the bearing is very nice, but the tool needs a flat top for your finger the way pin vises have been made for hundreds of years.

I sculpt/build and make my own model soldiers. I drill lots of tiny holes… this is - by far - the best pin vise I have ever used. It has a great feel to it, and the collets grab and tighten completely (no slippage, which has been common with out tools I’ve used). The drill bits are very sharp and drill very well, but BE WARNED: it is easy to shear and snap them off inside your project. If they bog down, do NOT try to force them. Instead, reverse direction carefully, clear the hole of any shavings, reinsert, and continue drilling.
