A Tiny Box of British Console Sound The Golden Age Project Pre73 Jr. MKII builds on its predecessor's classic, British-console-style preamplification with a cache of exciting new features. The Pre73 Jr. MKII boasts vintage- style, Class A electronics with zero integrated circuits or surface-mount components while offering a gain range of 20–70dB and truckloads of ear- grabbing character. You also get a flexible front-panel instrument DI, a separate output knob for achieving those coveted saturated textures, and an insert jack for your favorite EQ or compressor. Polarity reverse, a single-LED level indicator, and phantom power add further value to this preamp. Moreover, this MKII version includes a 2-position high-frequency Air boost and a selectable 6dB/octave 2-frequency highpass filter.     • A very nice-sounding preamp at a great price
This is an incredibly nice-sounding preamp and a great clone of the Neve 1073. I've tried a few different 1073 clones and I like this one the best, especially at this price point. It sounds much more expensive than it is. It is very bare-bones; no meter lights or other extra things you normally get on preamps like this, but that's what makes them able to offer this incredible preamp at this lower price. Gives a nice fatness and beefy sound to whatever you are recording, especially drums. Sounded so good on kick drum that I immediately bought a second one for snare. My only complaint is that the power switch is on the back and there is no power LED on the front (part of the cost-savings I'm sure) so a few times' I've left it on accidentally. But these are minor gripes compared to the sound quality you get, and if you need those amenities then Golden Age makes the Pre73 full size or Premier. The DI sounds great as well, very nice for adding a little heft to your DI instruments, good for recording bass. The construction quality is very good, feels like you could drop this off the roof and it would still work. And the size is nice and compact; you can rack up 4 with a shelf and have 4 incredible preamps in one RU of rack space. I put two on a shelf with a custom power supply that I made so that I can switch them on and off from the front of the rack. I could go on and on about these, but you get the point- this is one of the absolute best preamps that you can buy in this price range, one of the cheapest and yet best sounding 1073 clones out there, so if you're looking to get that 1073 sound at a great price, look no further! ... show more
