Size: Table Saw Miter Gauge System
I own a DeWalt DWE7485 table saw. This miter gauge could be set to zero side-to-side play for my saw, so that is good. By zero play, I mean the fit could be adjusted so that you could not even push the bar forward - and you could back off the adjustment slightly so then it could move forward. There was some dip in the nose of the bar as you pushed forward - better than the JessEm Mite-R-Excel II, which dipped a lot, but not as good as the SawStop Revolution, which did not dip in my table saw. Ultimately, I did not keep this product as there was something better for my particular saw and my wants, but I could see people being satisfied with this product. If I see POWERTEC on other products I would consider purchasing them based on my positive experience here. If numbers are helpful, test cuts measured by a digital angle gauge were getting a variance of .3 to .6 degrees to the miter gauge's settings. Adjusting the blade of the table saw could have given even greater precision, and that may be recommended upon first setup if you desire more precision as this miter gauge has no Vernier scale at the time of this writing. I noted the instructions say to refer to an addendum when assembling the flip stop. This tells me they are thinking ahead and when they some day include a micro adjuster or other features to their flip stop they will not have to modify the instructions for the main unit. Size: Table Saw Miter Gauge System
The primary feature of a miter gauge system like this is accuracy, and the Powertec is accurate enough for my needs. Pros: - Solid, sturdy construction - Accurate enough right out of the box, that I didn't have to calibrate it at all. - The fence and stop appear to be of good quality aluminum machining. - I like the positive v-stops at various angles. Not much room for play at all. Cons: - It's a bit fiddly to get the miter gauge onto the table. The rail slides into the track ok, but the miter gauge rides a little lower than the table on my DeWalt 7491 table saw, so I have to raise up on it to get it to clear the edge. I don't see a way to adjust that. Perhaps that's by design to ensure the gauge always rides flat on the table. All I know is the cheap miter gauge that came with the saw doesn't do that, though in fairness, it was made for this saw. - The plastic wheels you compress/expand to snug up the fit of the rail in the track seems like a cheap approach. Those should be adjustable wheels. They are going to wear and require periodic further tightening, until they are no longer effective. Powertec knows this, as they include a set of replacements in the box. - For the target market, the fence may be just a bit too long. It overhangs the edge of my DeWalt table saw nearly too much. To get something better, you'll likely spend 2x-3x the cost of this system. If I had it to do over again, I likely would have. ... show more

This kit was exactly what I needed. I used a large cutting board for the main part of the sled. All of these parts fit on easily and securely. I like the blue anodizing on the rails. To be completely honest building this crosscut sled took me way longer than expected and I would put this in the moderate skill level. It’s by no means an entry-level project. Also the product listing is a little misleading because it doesn’t include a few material items that you’ll need like #8 3/4” wood screws so it doesn’t come with everything you need and be quite frank It was a pretty big project and I’m what you would call a moderate woodworker but for the price I guess it’s reasonable. The trickiest part is getting the back stop perfectly square and you have to have perfect dimension wood in order to get perfectly square cuts. All in all I suppose it’s a good buy if your in the market for a budget cross cut sled and you want a project that’s going to give you a little bit of a challenge. so would I buy this again? probably not I feel I could probably get a better designed crosscut sled plan online and just build it from scratch and just buy the rails by themselves but for $25 and some of your time it’s not a bad buy. ... show more
