Top Amazon Reviews

  • Great color, functionality, and comfort. Questionable quality and longevity.
Color: Pink
My official Xbox One controller lasted me about 4 years, then developed a bad drift issue. I tried giving the internals a deep clean, but no luck. In the market for a replacement, at first I looked at controllers with Hall Effect sensors, which are supposedly immune to stick drift caused by potentiometer wear. Unfortunately, the most popular models I could find run about $70 and have mixed reviews. A lot of complaints about the feel of the buttons being stiffer than official controllers. It sounded like they were still making periodic revisions, so I didn't want to drop $70 until they get their build quality down. Looking at cheaper alternatives, a few friends recommended this PowerA controller. One of them swore by it, while a few others said they were good controllers but had short lifespans. Amazon reviews seemed to say the same. People like it, but in some cases they don't last very long. That said, the particular one I bought only cost $26 on Amazon, so I figured I would give it a shot, hoping it lasts long enough until a quality Hall Effect controller is available. Fast forward, I got my controller on March 23rd. At the time of this writting, it's now June 18th, so I've had it just slightly under 3 months now. Out of the box, the controller seemed great. Yes, it's wired, but for $26 it has a similar feel to the official Xbox controllers. The controller as a whole feels right in terms of form factor and grip, and the joysticks and buttons have a good tactile feel. It has two extra buttons on the back side that can be easily programmed to act like any of the main buttons, which is pretty nice to have. Compared to the official Xbox One controller, there are exposed screw holes on the back side, but they're cleverly positioned so that I never feel them while properly holding the controller. If the controller lasts more than a year without issues, I'd be pretty happy with it. Unfortunately, the controller has developed two problems with it. First off, the D-pad sometimes double-fires when I press on the right direction. I kind of suspect it was always like this out of the box and I just didn't notice it. Most of the games I was playing don't make heavy use of the D-pad. However it became pretty obvious when I started playing a game that made use of the D-pad for menu navigation. For the games I'm playing it's not a huge problem so long as I'm paying attention, but still a bit annoying. The second problem is that I've noticed the paint finish on the D-pad is ready starting to wear off. I've attached a picture where you can see the discoloration caused by the finish wearing off. So far it doesn't really change how the controller feels, but kind of disappointing to be happening already with less than 3 months of use. For the price, I'm still happy with the purchase thus far. I guess it's true you pay for what you get, and for only $26, as long as it lasts another 9 months before developing any other issues that require a replacement, I'll consider it money well spent. ... show more

  • The remote itself works great!
Color: Royal Purple
Okay the color on this remote is worth a million stars in my opinion. I am obsessed with all things purple and the tone of the purple is perfect and the metallic accent really makes it so much cuter.... but thats not why most people check product reviews. As for the game play, I mostly use it for Fortnite. I recently started playing with my son. I tried several controllers on various platforms and the thumbsticks were just too sensitive. And yes I changed my settings in game too - and no that didn't work. But this remote worked! The thumbsticks aren't as "loose". I feel like I just have more control over them and my aiming and shooting has proven to get MUCH better. The cord is long enough but could maybe be another foot long but I will survive. I have an USB extender if I really cared to make it longer. I like that there are 2 extra buttons... I wish I could make one go directly to the map but I dont think thats possible. The instructions basically say to program them... you push the "program button", then you push the button that you want to it to be, and then you push the extra button to program it to. So to me that says... you can only program them to be buttons you already have, which is pointless for me. I wanted to make one of them go directly to the map. I haven't messed with it yet though, so maybe I am wrong. I can update if so. The biggest problem is the audio jack/mic. Yes they work. No they don't work well. I have been using the same headset with a mic (purchased from Amazon) and I've never had issues before, but I plug into this remote and everyone I've played with says they hear loud static and can barely hear me. It did get better if I moved the mic directly in front of my mouth but the static was still there. I plugged in my earbuds with a mic ($5 pair from walmart) and that did make less static but still not ideal. I slighly blew in the audio jack thinking maybe its dust, and even on the plug to the headphones and earbuds.... still lots of static. Changed settings. Still static. I can even hear it slightly on my end... its almost like a white noise sound. One big part I do like that kind of makes up for the static is the ability to control the volume and mute/unmute the mic from the controller by pressing a button. That little switch in the middle of the controller is a game changer. Moral of the story, I like this controller for more reasons than I dislike it so I am keeping it. I guess I recommend it but I would say only for games where the mic quality isn't important. ... show more

  • Good controller when it works
Color: Mist
I purchased the PowerA Mist controller and it was a good value. The inclusion of back buttons was a definite plus and it worked perfect for daily use on both PC and Xbox with no input or wire issues. However, after about 5 months of use, I started experiencing stick drift, which has been the only major downside so far. To be fair every controller will develop stick drift, it's just a matter of when and this issue will vary from person to person. I am only knocking down a star because for my personal experience 5 months or so was a bit quick. For reference my xbox that came with the series s lasted about 2 years without issue. While there are potential fixes for this problem, I haven't tried them yet as I don't play as much. Overall, it's a decent controller for the price, but the stick drift issue could be a concern. When the controller is working at 100%, I prefer it over the standard controller however the standard controller will last longer. ... show more
