  • SO MUCH BETTER NOW, AND EASY TO INSTALL!!!
I'm a hobbyist car enthusiast. I've worked on a number of cars and like to turn the wrenches when needed. I have avoided learning how to do brakes my entire life. I always left it up to the professionals because any mistake with brakes is a BIG mistake. Well, after suffering many years of terrible factory brakes on my 2014 Honda Odyssey I decided it was time to fix these awful things, upgrade the set, and do it myself to save hundreds of dollars. After watching a number of videos I realized that replacing the rotors and pads is a VERY easy job for anyone with a decent tool chest and basic auto knowledge. This was my first time replacing pads and rotors, it took me 4 hours from unpacking the box to final bedding in of the pads. The first wheel took the longest as I took my time and made sure I was doing everything perfectly. The second wheel took half the time since I was now a certified brake installer! Seriously, brakes are so easy to replace!! I now have a few hundred miles on these upgraded front brakes. I've had the opportunity to use them well and hard driving around SoCal. The Odyssey stops much better than it ever had before and I have yet to feel any brake wobble or stuttering that plagues these Honda Odysseys! We shall see how they do after a few thousand miles, but so far I am VERY happy. A few notes about my experience with this kit- -The supplied directions are written well but they are NOT full of guidance pictures. You really need to watch a video or two to familiarize yourself with the process of replacing pads and rotors on your vehicle. -The stainless steel brake pad slider clips included with the kit are different than the factory clips. The supplied clips have an extra tab which I believe is there to act as a retainer tab against the back of the brake pads. These supplied clips make it nearly impossible to install a brake pad in the normal way. There is nothing wrong with the factory clips, simply remove them, clean with a soft wire brush and brake cleaner, then reuse. If you do use the supplied clips you will be scratching your head and cursing for twenty minutes as you try to figure out how in the world can a brake pad fit in there!. The factory clips allow you to simply slide in a pad from the outside, like normal. *To use the included clips I believe you need to install the pads into the caliper mounting bracket BEFORE reinstalling the bracket over the rotor. Typically you reinstall the caliper bracket on the car and then install the pads. Using the included clips will make it impossible to easily remove and replace pads in the future. You will be forced to remove the caliper bracket from the car in order to replace the pads.* If I'm wrong here, please do inform me! -Clean everything well, buy enough brake cleaner. These are brakes, everything should be cleaned throughly before lubing and reassembling. Clean the new rotors thoroughly, front and back! -You don't need a bungee cord to hold the brake caliper up and out of the way. A bent wire clothes hanger works just fine. -Brake lubrication: The kit includes a packet of brake lube. The lube is used for re-lubing the 4 sliding pins, a little on the end of each pad, and a little on the back of the pad that sits against the caliper pistons. You need more lube than is supplied, especially for the slider pins (the proper function of these pins ensures even pad wear) . Your local auto parts store sells little packs for a few bucks....buy some! Do not get lube on the face of the pads or on the rotors! -Brake pads: My factory pads on the piston side of the caliper came with an added metal plate that clips over the back of the pad. (The pad a has a small metal back plate and then a larger one over the top.) This metal plate protects the back of the pad from the force of the pistons, and helps to spread the pressure evenly. The pads in this kit include a small metal backing plate on the back of each pad. The factory backing plate is much larger and simply unclips off the old pad. After watching a few videos I chose to reuse the factory backing plate and install it over the new pad and new backing plate. I decided to do it just like the factory. -Brake pad spreading springs: (Remember I decided to use the factory brake pad sliding clips ) New springs are included in the kit, which are the same as the factory springs. These little monsters do a great job of spreading the pads apart, keeping them from rubbing on the rotor when not engaged. I could hear these little buggers laughing at me every time they ejected the brake pads from the caliper mounting bracket. Hint- Once you install the springs you must hold the pads together in place with one hand while sliding the caliper over the top. Trust me, don't let go! If I had used the supplied brake pad slider clips it would have not allowed the pads to be ejected. Once I cursed myself a few times, changed the supplied slider clips back to factory clips, and finished the first wheel, the second wheel was an absolute breeze! I will NEVER pay to have my brakes done again. Now that I have accomplished this job I figure future brakes jobs will take me less than 2 hours to replace a pair of rotors and pads. Just replacing pads will be a snap! ... show more

  • Solid brake kit
I installed these on my 2013 Odyssey with the help of a friend and it went pretty smooth. Probably took a bit over 2 hours, but we weren't rushing. My friend has done a lot of brakes and was impressed with the look and packaging of these Power Stops. It was nice they include new clips and boots and all you need except the tools and muscles. I only have tens of miles on the new pads, but so far they're quiet and seem great. ... show more

  • Fixes Front End Brake Shudder
This is a preliminary review, which I think has some level of value. Rotors and brake pads arrived well packaged and well marked that it was heavy. No obvious signs of it having been tossed around. Inside were two boxes, one with the rotors, packaged nicely and separated by heavy weight cardboard. The second came with the brake pads, nicely shrink wrapped together, new grommets for the brake calipers, new brake pad clips, new brake pad springs, and lubricant for the brake pads. There were no installation instructions that came with mine, and while I didn't necessarily need them, I feel like they would be beneficial to others that didn't know what they were doing. I have subtracted a star for this, and this alone. Even remedial instructions would give the consumer the basic concept of what they needed to do. That said, the first one took me probably close to an hour to do, as I took my time with it, and the second only about 20 minutes when I had kind of figured out what was what and what all to remove. I would say that you want to give yourself around 2 hours probably for installation. So, that out of the way, the biggest question is: do they work? Yes. They work well. We had noticed a significant shudder in our front end when braking from moderate to high speeds. A problem that developed approximately 3 years after we purchased the van. Model of van is a 2014 Honda Odyssey. The fit of the rotors, pads, clips, springs, and grommets, were all perfect. The rotors were machined precisely the same and dropped right on the bolts. From a product perspective, I would give this a 5 star review. The lack of instructions cannot be overlooked, though. In the box for the brake pads, there were very specific instructions on how to temper the rotors and pads. After reading several other reviews suggesting this had to be done, I was very particular about making sure I followed them to the letter. After running them through the "break in" (I'm struggling to not be punny and write "brake in" - hardy har) I noted absolutely no front end shudder during braking at all. The problem, apparently, solved. This review will need to be updated later after we have put the rotors through their paces. All of the research I had done suggested that this was a known Honda issue, with some even suggesting there was a service bulletin issued where Honda replaced the original rotors with vented rotors (overheating and warping is the source of the front end shudder). So, the real question will be how these hold up. I'll set myself a reminder a out 6 months from now to do an update on this. As is, the product appears to be high quality. ... show more
