  • Outstanding, very cheap, low dust brake pads for a BMW G80 M3 Outstanding, very cheap, low dust brake pads for a BMW G80 M3
Style: 17-2155
I bought my 2026 G80 M3 Competition Xdrive about a month ago and did an extensive search for low dust brake pad options since the stock pads thow out an insane amount of brake dust (as they do on every BMW I've owned). For the current gen G80 M3, many people use ISweep IS1500s, EBC Reds, Speed By Design, and some use the not really a Brembo "Brembo TS20" pads. All of these pads are relatively expensive - like $360 for EBC Reds to $700-$800 for ISweeps and TS20s. I have used Powerstop ceramic brake pads on my F80 M3 and my X3 M40i with great success in the past. I put over 40K miles on my F80 with Powerstop pads and they put out minimal dust and braked just as good as the stock pads and lasted forever. I never had to change the pads and even when i sold my F80 the pads still had plenty of life left. As much as I searched I could not find any reviews or even people mentioning using Powerstop ceramic brake pads on a G80 so I decided to give them a try. There are several kinds: * Powerstop Z17 Evolution Plus ceramic pads - cheapest, lowest dusting pads - cost $76 Front pads + $40 Rear pads = $116 for a full set of brake pads! Ridiculously cheap. * Powerstop Z23 Evolution Sport carbon fiber ceramic pads - higher priced but still a small fraction of the cost of ISweeps, very low dust but better performance? Price = $125 front pads + $45 rear pads = $170 for a full set - still super cheap relative to the other more popular options people buy. * There's also the Powerstop Z26 Extreme carbon fiber ceramic pads and the Powerstop Evolution Z16 Clean Ride ceramic pads but I didn't consider those as I couldn't find matching rear brake pads. So I decided to go super cheap and bought the Z17 Evolution Plus pads. The part numbers for the G80 M3 are 17-2155 for the front and 17-1469 for the rear. Before I got these low dust pads I drove on the stock brakes for about 500 miles. They started to squeal and groan almost immediately. It would usually happen at lower speeds and light brake application. Sometimes the noise was so bad it sounded like that groaning, squealing sound a bus makes when stopping. I found that slamming on the brakes hard once usually stopped the squeaking for a few days then it would come back. And, of course, stock pads threw out a massive amt of brake dust. Any drive of 10-20 miles would result in very noticeable brake dust particularly on my silver rims. If I drove for 100 miles or more the silver rims would have streaks of blak/gray brake soot on them that was very noticeable. And these stock 825 rims are a major PITA to wash - worse than mesh rims IMO b/c of all the nooks and crevices and sharp creases. Once I switched to the Powerstop Z17 pads, there has been no squealing or groaning noises at all and the brake pedal feel is exactly like stock - no more or no less grabby regardless of whether brakes are set in normal or sport modes. I have not tried them at super high speeds but I've done a couple of hard panic stops from 70 mph and 120 mph and it worked totally fine. No brake pulsing or fading. Now I would never use these pads on the track or even to do aggressive canyon driving, but for daily driving, I'm positive these pads will be totally fine for most people just as they were on my F80 M3 for over 40K miles and on my X3 M40i where I've put over 10K miles on Powerstop pads. In terms of brake dust, it is truly amazing how little dust these pads put out. Without exaggerating, it feels like less than 10% of the stock pads' brake dust. I've used these pads for about 400 miles and even without any break in, they've kept my rims super clean. Here's how little dust they put out after 250 miles of commuting this entire week. As you can see, there is minimal dust on my finger for both front and rear rims. One interesting thing though is on the front rim, it did leave a bit of brown brake dust on the lower rim channel. I'm sure if the rim didn't have that lip catching the dust it would've blown right off the rim. However, on the rear rim, there is no dust at all in that same channel. I would say that these brake pads put out so little brake dust it's hard to say whether the light dust on my finger is from the brake pads or just from ambient dust settling on the rims after being driven for 250 miles. Bottom line is, at $116 for a full set of Z17 brake pads or $170 for a full set of Z23 brake pads, you can't go wrong in choosing these. As for whether you should get the Z17s or Z23s, I would just get whatever's in stock. Only the Z23s were availble for my X3 so I got those but for the G80, both were available so I went with the cheapest option. ... show more

  • Great OEM braking equivalent
Style: 17-2074
Installed on an '18 VW Atlas, these did not fit right out of the box. I had to file every tab until the pad would slide freely on the calipers. Noise-free, mostly dust-free, coupled with ATE coated rotors. Smooth braking, not too aggressive. Feels equivalent to OEM. Overall great value, intermediate installation because of the necessary modification, but appear to be made from quality materials. ... show more

  • 2008 VOLVO S80 CERAMIC FRONT BRAKE PADS
Style: 17-1241
Replaced front semi-metallic brake pads with ceramic brake pads for my 2008 Volvo S80 with manual brakes. Brake pads fit like OEM and came with retention hardware. No squealing, squeaking or grinding. Brake dust is greatly reduced and there was no squealing, squeaking or grinding post installation. I recommend purchasing this brand of brake pads. Lastly, the price was reasonable. ... show more

  • perfect fit, no drama
Style: 17-1633
Installed these brake pads on my VW Tiguan — perfect fit right out of the box. Honestly, replacing pads is way easier than people think. Took me about 15 minutes per side, and that includes the 10 minutes of jacking it up and getting the wheel off. The actual pad swap? Quick and painless. These did have the pad wear sensor (which my car isn't equipped with). Don't panic, they aren't the wrong pads, you just snip the wires off. Brakes are like a suit of armor — you don’t think about them much until the moment you really need them. And trust me, that is not the time you want to find out you cheaped out. So far, these have been dead quiet, no squealing, and most importantly, solid, confident stopping power when it counts. If you’ve been putting off a brake job, don’t. With a decent set of pads like these, it's easier than you think — and way cheaper than waiting for a tow and a panic-filled repair bill. ... show more

Review: The PowerStop Front Brakes I purchased for my 2012 Volkswagen CC Turbo were an outstanding find. Not only did they come at a fantastic price, but they fit my car perfectly without a hitch. Installation was a breeze, and I experienced no compatibility issues whatsoever. These brakes provide reliable stopping power and have proven to be durable over time. I couldn't be happier with their performance. If I ever need rear brakes again, I wouldn't hesitate to buy PowerStop.
