  • This folding power wheelchair exceeded my expectations.
Size: Standard
I bought the Porto Mobility Ranger DO9S XL folding power wheelchair because I needed something more that my 3 wheel mobility scooter. When the chair arrived it was extremely well packed and was very easy to unfold and set up. The chair was exactly as described with very easy to follow instructions. I was a little concerned about using a “joystick “, I have never used one before. What I found was, it was easy to use and gave me more control over the steering. I had been using a tiller on my other mobility scooters. The “joystick” is very sensitive and with a little practice it is very easy to get used to. The ability make a 360* turn is a very tight area was a a pleasant surprise. One of the main reasons I purchased this particular folding power wheelchair was security. I am a 72 year old post polio male. My height is 5’ 7” and I weigh 230 lbs. I am still very active and I needed a folding wheelchair that my wife and I could load into our GMC Terrain or our Honda Odyssey with ease. It folds up easily and is not too heavy to lift. This folding wheelchair is very stable on gravel, dirt, grass, lawn and of course sidewalks. This folding power wheelchair is extremely comfortable, very well made, and handles well. It has a long range and has surpassed all my expectations. I would recommend the Porto Mobility Ranger DO9S XL to anyone who wants a well made quality folding power wheelchair. ... show more

  • Hello Independence! Bring on the travel!
Size: Standard
I bought this chair for my husband who is a very tall, big guy in recovery from a cerebral hemorrhage that left him with serious left-sided hemi-paralyses. This chair was not meant to replace his regular power chair which has better maneuverability and a tighter turning radius for indoor use. But his regular chair is very heavy and requires a lift to take it with us. The Ranger is very sporty looking and light-weight relative to most power chairs. It supports his weight (250lbs) and large 6'4" frame well. We bought this chair to travel with. It is light and folds easily. I am able to load it in the back of my car easily and we can go. The best part of the chair is that my husband can, with a small boom in the back of his pick up, load the chair by himself and run to the hardware store or wherever he wants. The downside of the chair is it is less maneuverable than a standard powerchair. The brakes don't respond well with his weight on a long steep hill so you would want to watch that. Overall, it's a great chair and it is light enough that most people can fold it and pivot it up into their vehicle. It's not super light but manageable. We would buy this again. It gets used almost daily and a must for travel. ... show more

  • Only a few folding electric wheelchairs that recline. This is an good one to consider.
Size: Standard
There are only a few folding wheelchairs that recline. Many are off brand names with no real vendor support other than a mail box address and fancy website. Porto Mobility, though at times unresponsive to calls and emails, did step up when contacted via Amazon customer support to promptly send me a broken right armrest that was received that way in shipping. Most folding power wheelchairs and others with a small "tube design" frame structure, are highly over-rated as far as weight capacity. I weigh 170 pounds and I can feel the frame flexing over uneven terrain. How the welds will hold up, I don't know. So, order up in capacity if you are a "heavy" person so that you are well within the safer vs maximum design limits of the machine. There are a lot of companies that are starting to mention, "weatherproof", or similar terms. Yet, all say to protect from rain, avoid puddles, do not wash with a water hose (just damp wipe it down), etc. The very large Pride Mobility company has similar water warnings for most all of thier electric mobility products from chairs to scooters, etc. Amazon heading reads, "infinitely reclinable", it reclines a little, but not infinite which mean all the way to flat. "Infinite" is misleading. When received, there are 3 multi point plug connections to the main CPU computer box. One was secured. One was plugged in but the ring fastener was not tightened down and off so that meant that if the cable was pulled or vibration it would work itself out. The 3rd plug was barely on. I plugged in all of them tightly and then tighteded down the ring fasteners. So much for quality control. Also, the wire to the right side motor was zip tied too tight so it was pulling sideways on the motor housing entry point. Bad for a wire. I redid all the zip ties on all the wiring harnesses and made it neeat and secure. I also added electrical tape wrap to the 2 connectors that had that but was wrapped sloppy. The Ranger Maestro offers a lot of value compared to the Pride Mobility equiv. As well as a "claimed" longer battery life and 16 mile range with the twin 6AH batteries, while the Pride Mobility equiv offers a single 12 AH battery with only a "claimed" 9 mile range. Though Pride Mobility is the "industry standard" with a very long history and large physical company in the USA and worldwide and "outstanding customer service and responsiveness", the Ranger Maestro offers good value and "acceptable quality of workmanship and design" for the money, that should be considered as a choice when shopping. There is one desiign flaw that can be, or not, problematic. And, that is when the chair is folded, one of the cross aluminum flat bar seat horizontal supports rests heavily on the plastic computer CPU box. It should not. Also, when received, 2 of the CPU main wiring connectors to the CPU main box were loose. I tightened them. So, these units are made "overseas" "in volume", so quality control is . . . what it is. I contacted PortoMobility via their main website on a "phone message" and also a lengthy email, but did not get a response, nor did anyone answer the phone, or call back. Again, given a large sales volume and focus on sales, perhaps? It is what it is. So, buyers need to triple check everything when receiving the chair to make sure it is all ready to go and no "loose ends". Also, the dual 6 aH (amp hour) batteries, at 144W Hours, is within airline guidelines for "carry one" lithium ion batteries, whereas some other brands with single 12 aH at 24 V with 288 WH "may" need special airline approval. So, if one intended use is for airline travel, be sure to triple check with various airlines, re: lithium ion battery carry on sizes, before buying. So far, with moderate use, I am glad that the Ranger Maestro is performing as advertised. I hope it continues to do so. Beyond the few "bugs", it is very well engineered, very very quick/fast, and lots of fun. I have some flight trips planned and "vacations". I hope that it survives airline baggage handlers on "gate check in" and "normal check in". Will update this review as I can. Update: Porto Mobility customer service gave me a phone call to address my "Amazon.com review" concerns regarding the aluminum cross bar pressing hard on the main CPU box when the chair is folded, also the quality control issues that I had to fix myself (loose connections, etc). It was suggested to leave the seat cushion in the chair when folding to keep the aluminum cross bar off the CPU unit, but, keeping the chair from being completely folded. Perhaps this design flaw and potential issue to all customers/users, will be corrected in the future. Thank you Porto Mobility for reaching out. This is great customer service. But, was it a response to my 2 prior emails and phone message to the website? However, folding up the chair with the chair cushion inside bulges out the entire assembly so it now exceeds the 62 inch total dimensions for airline check in bags. Whether that will be an issue on gate check or actual check in is unknown, or if there will be an extra charge for exceeding the 62 inch check in bag dimension. It is also very heavy and awkward to lift and move around. If one doesn't have to use this chair for airline travel, then it won't be a potential issue. It helps to use a 2 inch wide buckle velcro strap (avail amazon) to wrap all of the chair before putting it in the nice carry bag that is available for it. This keeps things in place, the footstand, etc. **This is a very nice folding wheelchair, and few on the market of any brand have the "recline feature". But, beware as the majority of folding electric wheelchair brands (including other brands) and models have "inflated marketing/sales claims" (real use in life) as far as; range, weight capacity, weatherproof-ness or water resistance (virtually none), speed, and battery life, warranty and customer service, etc. research advertising claims (very inflated), vendor support, customer service network, carefully before buying Posted extensive reviews on the Discovery and Maestro listings, in detail. Use "fakespot.com" to verify the amazon reviews. ... show more
