I needed to resize some door blanks for installation in existing/installed door frame. Was just going to get a cheapy from HF, but when I found this here on Amazon for only a few bucks more, the decision was a no-brainer. I started buying Porter Cable tools when they were still made in the USA decades ago, and compared to some of the other big name tool manufacturers, PC has kept up on the build quality despite operations moving to China. Every Porter Cable tool I have ever purchased is still being used today and working perfectly. Needless to say, this planer did everything I expected it to and resizing the door blanks was easier than it has ever been (previously had been using clamps, guides and a circular saw). ... show more

This planer works very well. The sole is aluminum and the rest is plastic, but it is worth every penny. I will take a power planer over a hand planer any day.

I have been using this planer since I received it and it works great; the only drawback, is that the discharge port is not compatible with any of the dust extraction attachments. I opted not to use the sack included in the package due to the volume of use. I had to "engineer" an adapter in order to connect a 2 1/2" dust extraction hose to it. ... show more

First the minor complaint. The planer has two ports where sawdust is forced out. The idea is to place the dust collector bag over one of the two ports, flip a switch on the port to direct dust to the port where the bag is attached, then get to work. Problem is, my switch is reversed -- if I put it in the right-hand position, dust blows out of the left port and vice-versa. I can live with it. Easy to use right out of the box. Depth settings are easy, edge chamfer works fine. I made a table top out of three 2X6X3 ft cypress, glued together with dowels. The planer smoothed out the ends and edges as well as top and bottom in about 15 minutes. Sanded a few minutes with orbital sander and the tabletop is very smooth. Wish it came with a carrying case to hold the edge guide, wrench, and extra blades, but, I have a small canvas satchel that fits perfectly. ... show more
