This is a great price for a planer. The wood came out smooth and even. When you're taking the level down, only go down half a turn. A full turn still worked, but I could tell that the machine was struggling.

So it arrived by Fed Ex and in keeping with their "It ain't mine, I don't care" attitude, it was left on my front porch, laying on its side, when package clearly indicates that it should be handled and shipped top up. Packaging had been roughed up alot. Got it unpacked, and assembled. Instructions are very minimal. Could not adjust the cutter head up and down, as it was binding. Called company, and customer service was somewhat lacking in what they could do. To assist, you'd get email instructions or return it. To return, I would have to go through Amazon. Amazon would want packaging back also. I didn't have packaging...expected it work since it's German engineered. So, using my mechanic skills, and not wanting to hassle with returns, I took the top off to find the bind. Found it...Fed Ex strikes again as they had bent the housing. A pair of pliers stagically placed fixed the housing so I could raise and lower cutter head. Not perfect, but it works for what I need...getting ready to test the cutter head later today, or tomorrow...I didn't notice any other issues other than housing somewhat damaged, so I presume the cutter head is level...more to follow. UPDATE: Issue #1: The unit base mount holes are not drilled the same. 3 holes are 5/16", 1 hole is 3/8". Issue #2: The connector for the chip removal vacuum is a bit small for U.S. vacuum hose connections (Rigid), a piece of Duct tape tightened that up. UPDATE #2: Issue 3, the mounting holes mentioned in "Issue 1" are to close the to product to allow fasteners to attach it completely to a base. Suggest possible redesign of moving holes 1/4" to 3/8" out from unit to allow ease of mounting. The current configuration reqiired multiple, annoying trips to hardware store in order to mount tool to base. Final mounting required using rear left mount hole, and front right mount hole only. This provided enough mounting to safely use tool. Total setup time from box delivery to use was 4 days due to shipping damage repair, and mounting configuration issues...otherwise, tool performed admirably as expected with low noise, and steady planning ( Setting 1). Suggest purchasing a dust collector for use between planner and Shop Vac to protect shop vac from dust clogging and burn out of shop vac motor (Voice of Experience). ... show more

I bought the planer with high hopes based on reviews, but was very disappointed in the first 15 minutes of use. I started out with a 6" wide piece of maple that was 48" long. The first 3 cuts on low speed worked well, but each subsequent cut at a 1/4 turn would trip the breaker 2/3rds of the way through. My next board was an 8" wide 8' long piece of yellow pine on the faster speed. After the first 2 cuts and breaker trips I switched to the slow speed. I still couldn't get the full length of the board through the machine. I used the machine a total of 15 minutes before I packaged it back up for a return. I contacted vevor for a warranty replacement, but it took 4 days to get an email response from them, so I returned the planer back to Amazon. The new machine performed much poorer than the used 5 year old 2 blade planer it replaced. I ... show more

The planer started out and was very impressive. It planed soft pine, cedar and oak very well and I was perfectly satisfied with the planer. However during one of the planer session something went wring inside the head and it just quit working.

    • Decent but has a few issues
Style: Planer with Stand
First off fantastic unit. Assembling the base took about an hour, the instructions were piss poor for telling what went where. Aside from that I tried it out on a two inch slab of curly maple. It couldn't do a full turn off the handle when attempting to plane. It stalled out and popped the breaker that was built in. Half turn and it seemed happy enough. DeWalts planer can handle a full turn on this kind of wood but costs a lot more. This unit functions does the job is quieter then the DeWalt version and has a dust port that can be hooked up to a shop vac with a fernco adapter from home Depot in the plumbing section. All in all I'm not dissatisfied with the unit. Other major draw back was a 13" peice won't go threw. Gas a cutting board that got stuck in the middle and had to save down the sides just a little bit. ... show more
