  • perfect order and delivery
Style: Helical Head Planer
Planer arrived 2 days after ordering and crate looked as though no one touched it upon arrival. ABF freight absolutely super in quality care. Machine flawless in appearance. very easy to read owners manual, fine machined in/out trays, very smooth and dull mirror finish. Going to wax bed tonight and plug this baby in. Will continue report after a few trial runs with hard and soft woods. Delivery and ordering went perfect. Will continue once used! 2ND PART AFTER DELIVERY. I decided to wire this giant professionally so in came my electrician. We wired machine from on/off panel to wall plug with 10 gauge grounded wire and dedicated circuit 220V w/50 amp breakers. Maybe a little over kill, but just wanted a powerful and good and safe delivery of current. Now for the fun part. A machine of this size commands respect so a brief double check of parts was in order. On went the machine and in went my first piece of red oak, 8"X6'. I am amazed at the speed and absolute perfect face after 2 or 3 runs. Honestly, I have used a 13" planer for 15-17 years, which has performed wonderfully, but is getting tired. I have tried rock maple, oak, cherry, walnut, pine, etc and all have absolute perfect finish. Just a slight touch of my palm sander and the wood is ready for projects. It is also very low on the sound db's. So low, 3 of us while watching kept a conversation as this planer was hard at work. Absolutely no snipe ( a bit hairy to install and adjust the entry/exit tables). This is without a doubt the best wood planer I have ever witnessed in my 68 years. ... show more

  • Flawless!
Style: Helical Head Planer
The entire process of ordering, receiving and assembling this planer was flawless. Shipping was free and reasonably fast and the unit was packed well.. Even the pallet was heavy duty. Minimal assembly required which took less than an hour and the instructions were well written. I was concerned when I saw it was made in Taiwan but the machining is perfect and it runs incredibly smooth. Here is a comparison to another planer: I have a Norwood gas engine powered planer for use with my sawmill. The Norwood planer is made in Canada, weighs several hundred pounds less and is similar in size and function to the Jet Planer, except it uses a 13 hp gas engine to power it. But, what a difference. The Norwood planer costs twice as much, shipping was over $500 dollars, it arrived completely disassembled, parts were missing, instructions were incomplete and the final product is sloppy with loose tolerances. It's taken two people two days to put this together and we are still working the bugs out. The point is that the Taiwanese made product is far superior to the Canadian product. While I try to buy USA or N. American made tools I can see why overseas production has taken over. Anyway, my hat is off to Jet for making such a great machine. ... show more

  • Great Tool
Style: Helical Head Planer
Updated May 21 2020. This planer has been great and produces extremely smooth boards. I cannot be happier with the purchase. Highly recommend. It is a lot quieter than a lunchbox planer that I had been using before. Ordered it Saturday July 22nd and it was delivered the next Friday the 28th. No issues with the delivery or packaging, everything came thru perfect. Using a bobcat with forks, we moved the pallet into the shed. Once the plywood crate came off, you can use the lift bars (which each slides out to 10 3/8 inches and 4 5/8 inches when closed) in the tool to use a forklift to move it off of the pallet. The bobcat had movable forks to slide in tight to the machine and come under the lifting bars. I preferred this over straps hanging the machine from the forks. I built a mobile base from 3/4 plywood, and 4 inch casters positioned under the corners of the tool, with a weight capacity of 850 lbs. Uncrated the machine weights 753 lbs. The planer has a hollow base with an open bottom. This machine has the new updated decals and paint job from Jet. The older jet tools the last several years has a "yellow-white" paint. The new upgraded tools have a bright white paint which matches the new updated longer bed Jet 8 Inch HH jointer I bought recently. Not all of their older models that they still sell have the updated paint color. It does have a short 10 awg cord 5 foot long. You can swap out the cord with SOOW ( sometimes called SO) 10-3 AWG cord that you can buy at Menards for $35 for 25 feet. With SOOW cord they count all 3 wires so you need 10-3 cord (black, white, green). I am using 10 gauge wire in the wall to a 30 amp breaker. I have yet to use it as I am assembling and will update the review when used. At this point the fit and finish is perfect and I am somewhat OCD :) ... show more

  • Good for money
Style: Helical Head Planer
Very heavy, get help (four strong guys) to lift it on the coasters. I have very hard wood to plane and found that it got stuck several times even though the feeder roller was turning. I had to plane an uneven plank and had to push very hard to get the plank through the planer even though I was not taking off much wood. As the surface became more even it worked better. It would be much nicer if it came with an option for wheels so no one gets hurt trying to lift it onto the base you can buy for it. A little slower feed speed would give a better surface for very hard wood. ... show more

  • Awesome planer, makes my life so much easier now.
Style: Helical Head Planer
It's too bad that one bad review has brought this products star rating down as I can't understand why anyone would rate this poorly. It's a fantastic piece of machinery that works extremely well. I'm a hobbyist wood worker and I imagine it seems strange for someone like me to purchase a beast of a machine like this, but it is probably one of the heaviest used tools I have in my shop. I love how quickly it mows through wood and does it effortlessly. It was not exactly the most fun thing to get power to as the cord it comes with is extremely short. You will probably need to make yourself a new one. It goes up and down well and is way more quieter than my last planer (that popular Dewalt Bench planer - that thing was crazy loud) The planer as others have said was indeed difficult to get off the pallet. I didn't have a forklift so I had to get creative on how I placed this on a mobile cart. But once it was in there, it moved around easily enough. I highly recommend this planer if you have the funds to buy it. You really won't go wrong. ... show more
