  • Great value, well made.
Style: Planer
Built a screened in porch for my wife and needed to plane the trim I made on the sawmill. After borrowing a friend's much heavier planer and wrestling with it for hours I decided to buy one of my own. I have always found Craftsman hand tools to be quality products so after reviewing I decided to go with this one. I have to say so far I am very pleased. The unit is heavy enough to stay put when used but light enough not to break my back moving it. The four holes in the base also give you a easy point to bolt the unit down. I have put about 1200 board foot through this unit and it is still cutting as well as, if not better than, my friends three knife brand. The measurements appear accurate and the shavings collector all work well. If I had one issue it would be the placement of the power cord at the front left of unit. A side placement would seem more practical and out of the way. This is a quality planer that looks as if it will last the long haul. I will let you know in a future post about ease of blade replacement and cleaning. Well done Craftsman. ... show more

  • This thing is AWESOME!
Style: Planer
The media could not be loaded. Hub's and I set up the new craftsman bench top 15amp planer. Very easy to set up, all we had to do was add the handle and plug it in. We took it for a test drive with a 2x4, 1x3 treated board and a cedar fence. This thing is AWESOME! The wood was nice and smooth.. took the rounded edges off with ease. Love that it can take large boards and it's easy to adjust. My only complaint is that there is a snipe at the end of the wood. It's like the board hopped or something pushed the blade down more when you first insert the wood...🤷♀️ Not sure how to fix that. Guess we need to research how to correct that, but other than that, it works perfectly! This is going to save me so much time and headaches! Time to read the instructions! Update: snipe is easy to fix. Make sure the board is being inserted straight. Don't make deep cuts all that once, do smaller passes multiple times to help prevent snipe ... show more

  • Good quality tool
Style: Planer
It works well on softer woods. Haven’t tried it on hardwood. Easy to use and adjust. It came perfectly level. Typical noise level for this type of planer.

  • Broken dust collector and thumb screws
Style: Planer
Dust collector was broken and thumb screws were missing. Everything else was fine. Love the planer. Works great. Just miss dust collector and thumb screws. Very easy to set up. Tim

  • Quality planer!
Style: Planer
Right out of the box this is a great “lunchbox” planer at a great price point! Since I’ve purchased this I’ve ran a decent amount of board foot through this thing and the blades are still nice and sharp. The blades are also double sided so you can flip them over before you plan on replacing or sharpening them. A vacuum is a must, it has a port to hook up a shop vac to, there’s virtually no mess after that. It’s very easy to set up and very easy to use. ... show more

  • Awesome planer!!!
Style: Planer
The media could not be loaded. With a name like Craftsman, I expect good quality. And this machine DELIVERED!!! The video shows how well it planed some pallet boards. I still can't believe how well it did! The directions say to only hook up the dust port to a dust collection system and not a shop vac. Wanna bet? Worked like a charm... ... show more

  • I trust the Craftsman name
Style: Planer
I got this one for planning my wood and I have not been disappointed with it. I like the way it works and the wood looks great afterwards. I enjoy the knob to make precise adjustments and the increments of being able to get just the right amount of wood off the board to make something nice from pallet wood. If I purchase S4S or S2S I would not have a need to use the planner, but I am a pallet lady and although I don’t pick up every one I see as I’ve gotten more picky about wood and still I find some really nice wood on some of the pallet pieces that I find around town. I have so many ideas for woodworking projects that I have a hard time passing up on free wood. I think a planner is a must buy for me and my woodworking projects. This planner has checked most of my boxes and the price was right for me. I grew up with Craftsman tools in my dad’s garage so I trust them too. ... show more

  • Two year review! It lacks features woodworkers need.
Style: Planer
I was a beginner woodworker looking for a thickness planer and this model came from a brand I knew. After two years of use, lots of projects (big and small), hardwood and softwood, it's time for a review! Pros: - No parts breakage! - Decent finish - Relatively light Cons - No depth stop, it makes it hard to plane material to the same depth. Repeatability is poor. - Awful snipe that cannot be fixed. You will lose two inches on each side of the board. For diy jobs, it's great. For woodworking, it's a poor a value. For about $100, you can purchase a Hercules or Wen model with depth stops, far less or no snipe, and a proper three blade set up. Those features will result in less material waste, better finish and accuracy. ... show more
