The lantern also has the three light settings, and then the colors. The colors can rotate or you can choose just one. At first I really did not like the orange trim. What's wrong with basic black? Matches every decor, and my primary use is indoors. But that little annoyance soon vanished. What's not to love? I love: So many choices, many gradations from super bright to dim, warm to cool, hangs nicely, sits nicely (in either direction, top or bottom, or even sideways), converts instantly from handheld spotlight/flashlight to hanging lantern to table top. Holds a charge for a long time. Has secure covers (but not so tight it would hurt my fingernail opening them) to keep dust and moisture out of connections. Ergonomic, one-handed flashlight operation because the on-off button is adjacent to the strap. Feels weightless. Seems durable, but I treat it like fine china, to protect its beautiful finish from scratches. And if you like (I don't use it but you might), rotating muted colors. Genius design, quality construction, give that designer/engineering team raises, bonuses, profit shares! I save on energy costs by using these DAILY. Bought one, then two more, will continue to buy more, for self and gifts. Best buy ever! P.S. I would love to buy (rather than make) thick flannel drawstring bag covers, for camping trips, and every day storage in our cars and emergency backpacks. ... show more

We used these at an outdoor tented event and they worked well as flashlights (for us to guide people to cars and look through the grass at cleanup) and lanterns (set on the ground to light paths). It's great to have 3 levels of brightness.

The PORTAL rechargeable camping lantern is well constructed and easy to use. Multiple lighting modes, sufficiently bright to mood light dim, which work well for any number of situations. The added functionality as a super bright flashlight is appreciated. It will charge a cell phone via the USB-A port with the light running. (5V-1.8A). The USB-C port is only for charging the lamp, it did not provide any power to my phone when plugged in directly. The manual states that the meter will read 25-50-75-100% charge capacity, but when I plugged it into my standard USB C to C charger, nothing happened. It would not charge. I tried another C-to-C cord, same result. Perplexed, I pulled out the USB A to C that is included. It started charging. Another similar A to C cable I have also charged the lantern. I am not sure why this will not charge C to C, but if you are having issues, use the cable provided or try A to C. Solar charging shows up with a red light in the left side of the charge bar. I left it out in the direct sun for 4 hours when the lantern was at 50% and never gained an additional bar. How long does it need to be left out in direct sunlight to fully charge? I am not convinced that solar is necessary. Is this waterproof? Instances when a lamp is left outside, and it rains? Product information on Amazon indicates IPX4 (splash and rain resistant). There is nothing in the paper manual nor box confirming that rating. Ports are covered and seem to be secure against moisture. Remains to be tested, but I suspect based on common experiences and the appearance of this unit that it should easily be able to be left in the rain, but not submerged. I like this lantern. It produces some nice lighting with various modes and the flashlight is a great addition. It is not the most compact option, nor am I convinced about the solar option.
