  • This is a solid and robust, highly versatile, portable, go-anywhere stove. We love it!
We really ordered this Rocket Stove as a back-up way to boil water, for all our emergency food. We wanted something more substantial and a little larger, for our larger saucepans. Based on what we read, this stove seemed to fit most of our needs - that is, unless we find something better?!!! When we read through all the details and the reviews we liked the positive aspects of this stove, and we kept an open mind about the few negative aspects that had been highlighted in the reviews. This arrived quickly, and we assembled it quickly AND WITHOUT any instructions. To us, all the parts were logical and they only seemed to fit into one place - and that was the place it was meant to fit. But we also understand that assembling things does not come easy to everyone, and instructions are always appreciated. BUT common sense should always prevail. After all, your life may depend on it one day. As far as sharp edges we have several thoughts on that. This is both stamped and cust stainless steel. Actually, it is nice thick steel for a change, which we love! But being both stamped and cut steel, there ARE a few sharp edges in places, and a few moments with some Emery paper or a fle, easily takes care of that, if you are terribly concerned. But for sure, there are certainly some "pointy" bits that you dont want to fall on and in this respect I agree, those could have been designed slightly better. It may a little on the heavier sider for some, so we love the fact that it has a handle to carry it and move it around. It has a fairly stable base and it has extendable upper arms for the larger saucepans. But like all tall upright items, do not overload the top with weight, without ensuring that the base is firmly secured somehow! Otherwise, that is an accident waiting to happen. We love the fact that this takes muliple solid fuel types, as you really never know what type you may have available at the time. But like all fires, start small and build on it enough, where it is hot enough, so that the bigger pieces of fuel will burn effectively. Being a very well ventilated Rocket stove, it should also produc less smoke when fully burning its fuel. This is a solid and robust, highly versatile, portable go-anywhere stove. We love it! ... show more

  • Compact, well made but sharp edges and no instruction
The media could not be loaded. This came in a box without any instruction, so I had to go back to the description to find out that what I thought was a top trivet was actually the base. The advantage of having it on a base is that you don’t have to necessarily have this on a heat resistant surface, though I think that’s still a good idea. It could go on top or on bottom, actually, so if one wanted a more stable cook surface, one could use the base on top as a trivet, instead. All of the edges on this are really sharp, so use caution, and don’t let children get near this. I’m thankful that it has a handle to carry it that is not sharp! I like that it’s compact, folding up into a sturdy, steel box that’s 12” tall and 5” square. It’s all steel, too, so it should last a while! It gets discolored from fire, but should not rust. It’s pretty hefty, too, weighing 7.9 lbs. The hopper (or canister, as they refer to it in the description) pulls out and there’s a steel plate that is supposed to come into place to finish the wall above the hopper. I had to fool with that a bit, and my first photo does not show that plate, so one can clearly see into the inside. I put crumpled wax paper through the top, and then loaded sticks in the hopper, but when it was time to start it, I couldn’t reach the wax paper, so I lit a strip of waxed cardboard and dropped it down the top chute to light the wax paper underneath. The fire started easily, and I like that it has a compartment down below for ash to drop into, making cleanup easy. The wind at my back helped get it started, too, acting as a bellows. It was able to boil a pot of water pretty quick, within a few minutes. The main issue I had, though, was that smoke started coming out of the hopper, and then later, flames came out of the hopper, as well as the main chute for cooking. I’m not sure how to prevent that, and that happened regardless of whether or not the plate was in place between the hopper and the stove. I’m looking forward to using this either camping, or just hanging out by our favorite swimming hole, cooking lunch with sticks I can find in the area. This is really low tech and low maintenance, and an easy way to have a safe, portable fire. ... show more

  • Great Camp Stove
I’ve been prepping as of late and wanted to get a stove that didn’t need butane or propane. This was what I was looking for. It’s made with good quality material. I’ll be able to use this for years to come. I love the design. Easy to add starters and wood. The chute makes it easy and safe to add more wood. This can get going quickly and without much wood. It’s pretty heavy. Making it very sturdy when cooking. However, because of the weight it would a great choice if your hiking to a camp spot. Overall, I’m really happy with this. ... show more
