  • Easy to set up, sounds better than I thought, fills a nice niche
I picked this up for my wife, not expecting all that much, and was pleasantly surprised - she's one of those people that has a hard time appreciating or even recognizing the difference between the TV speakers and the surround sound, or from a cheap 10 dollar speaker and my 300 Bose tabletop one. I expected this would sound adequate for her, while allowing her to play all the old CDs she refused to throw away when I started swapping over entirely to digital. While it doesn't sound anything like my Bose Soundlinks, it's actually pretty decent. The sound quality wasn't the primary motivation for my choosing this, as I just wanted her to have a way to play her old CDs in the morning when she was getting ready for work, but it performed better than I expected. You'll never confuse it with some of the more expensive ones, but it won't actively upset you to listen to it either. Especially classical, jazz, or instrumental music, as it shines with the less bass intense genres. It gets loud enough to fill a fairly large room, or a garage, but it wouldn't be ideal outdoors. It's easy enough to use, and in fact, I didn't even set it up because she was too impatient for me to get around to it. She's tech savvy enough to follow standard instructions, and this took her all of 10 minutes to get going. Operation is easy and clearly labeled, and I expect just about anyone would have an easy time using it, even older folks like my Mom. It's a nice quality product and it fills a pretty cool niche for those of us that still have CDs laying around. I like it and I'd get it again if I needed to, because it does something fairly unique at a fair price. ... show more

  • Blast from the Past
I was pretty excited when I ordered this CD player that looks like an old school record player and it did not disappoint! It is plastic but that doesn't deter from the cuteness. It includes an option to use USB, Micro SD or Bluetooth in addition to using it as a CD player. It also includes a remote where you can choose the typical functions like repeat, next song and you can also choose the Bluetooth function from there as well. There are three ways to turn the unit on - the power button on the remote, the power button on the unit or the arm that mimics playing a record also turns it on. The unit itself it slim and doesn't consume my counter space. The battery, so far, has lasted me many hours before needing to be recharged. The sound quality isn't top notch but is more than sufficient for me to play it in the kitchen and to hear it two rooms over. The only complaint I have is the volume. I love the volume slider on the unit although lifting up the lid to access the slider is a bit of a pain. I wish there was a volume adjustor either on the outside of the unit or even more ideally would be to have the volume option on the remote. This is a little pricey for it being all plastic but I think we are paying more for the nostalgia of it. I definitely recommend it overall. ... show more

  • Retro feel
This retro-look CD player has a lot of functionality. I don't happen to have my USB drive with music handy (it's in my pickup), but I'll likely use that feature more than the CD function, though I admit to loving watching the CD spin like a record with the little laser arm positioned over it. The volume slide-lever is another nice retro feature. The display on the front is large enough to read from across the room, though the backlight turns off after a moment, so that can make it difficult to see. The player has decent speakers for the size. It will *not* rattle your windows when the volume is maxed, however, which is totally fine with me. It's perfect in the bedroom right now. I haven't tried the Bluetooth feature, either, because I don't foresee using it since I don't stream music. Well...I suppose it could come in handy for an audio book from the library instead listening on my tablet. This unit is programmable, too, according the directions. It's another feature I likely won't mess with, though I can see the benefit of having it. The remote is nice to have! The directions state that it will reach 3 meters, and work from 30° angles, so I think it's perhaps a bit limited. And it does not have a volume control which seems like an oversight, but I assume it's because the volume is a manual operation on the player with the slide-lever. The provided battery for it is packed in its own little ziplock and is somewhat easy to install, though it definitely takes two hands to get the battery tray out. The remote works great otherwise. I haven't had time to check on the installed battery; I'm not sure how long it lasts. And lastly: the power cable provided is predictably shorter than it really should be. I have some high quality Ankor cables with much greater length that I'm using. Overall, I really like this unit! I paint with oils out on the patio during warm weather, and this will be my new companion! ... show more

  • Packs a punch with all the features you can ask for; just get over the cheesy looks.
10 minute setup if you include taking all fo the pieces out of individually protective bags. I like this player for its features. Surely with its 40mm speakers it's not going to perform like a Bose Sound Wave radio or anything, but it is suited for connecting to your best Hi-Fi. This connected to my Bluetooth speaker and sounded so much better. The remote comes with all of the programming functions you might want and is slim and doesn't take up your whole coffee table. What don't I like about it? Trivial, but the tonearm thing is just silly. Makes it look cheap. Overall the design makes it look cheap like a child's toy, when rest assured, it is not. I wish it had better built in speakers (likely impossible due to size) and that about covers it. I knocked off a star for its overall generic cheesy styling - I mean come on can we get some industrial engineers with any style? Like Apple used to be??? ... show more
