  • Amazing Value!
Size: BK91008806/Kit
I chose to replace my 2007 Honda CR-V's brake rotors because something was causing steering wheel shimmy at highway speeds and re-balancing the tires didn't fix it. The old front rotors had thick rust inside the ventilation area between the plates, which might have caused the imbalance, or maybe uneven wear caused it. These new rotors fixed the problem. These rotors are said to be zinc coated for rust resistance, so I'll report any rust if it appears. Top quality and attention to detail are readily apparent on this product, and even the boxes are attractively designed for display in stores or online. The interior of the front rotors is coated with a thick granular substance, which may be for rust resistance (there was nothing like this on the old rotors). The outer edge of each rotor is embossed with the Detroit Axle brand and the rotor model number, which provides a high-quality appearance. The pads contain shiny flakes of what appears to be copper, and they're covered with a hard, dried paste which is probably designed for break-in for the rotors. It causes a grinding noise and feel when the brakes are applied during the break-in period, which should continue for several miles until the substance finally wears away. After the initial break-in, my subjective opinion of these brakes' performance is excellent, but I won't do any hard braking until after about 1,000 miles. For a total of $118.37 and fast delivery, this is an outstanding value. Professional brake work is so expensive that it might not be cost effective for an older, depreciated vehicle. Dealers charge around $250 to replace the pads and to resurface the old rotors (no rotor replacement; resurfaced rotors usually don't last very long) on the front or rear, and $450 for all four. Factory recommended torque for the front caliper bolts is 101 ft lbs and 79.6 for the rear ones; the 6mm rotor screws' recommended torque is 7.2 ft lbs and anti-seize compound should always be applied to the area where the screw head contacts the rotor. The easiest way to replace the pads and hardware with the rotors and calipers in place is to remove one caliper pin and swing away the caliper bracket to access the pads. November 28, 2021: After about 13,000 miles, I replaced the Detroit Axle front rotors because they had become warped (they also accumulated a lot of rust). There was also a grinding sensation when I applied substantial pressure on the brake pedal, and that turned out to be caused by the Detroit Axle pads, so I replaced them, too. Brake rotor warpage is pretty common, and replacement on this vehicle is easy, so I'm not downgrading my rating. ... show more

  • Decent set of drums.
Size: 4R1201743/Kit
I installed these on a 2013 Corolla about 6 weeks ago. They fit the spindle perfectly and are concentric , having no hop when engaged. They do however require clearance work as the outer edge of the brake shoe on one side, engages the drum ever so lightly, when activated. That being said, the braking has been very good and consistent in all conditions. A decent set of drums for the price, considering that my issue may be an anomaly. ... show more
