So far, this little machine seems far more durable than the last one I had. It is a good value for the money. I am still learning how to use it, but it seems to be easier than the last machine I had. It is also great to taking when we go camping it folds up and has a bit of storage as well. The gears are very smooth.

I have a miniature version of this kind of portable machine, and i felt like it was kind of like a nice toy or entry-level gear. Not so with this big one! I was surprised from the moment i picked up the box - it's got some heft to it! You can tell the rollers have the weight and there's plastic elsewhere - it's sturdy enough, no issues. "Installation" consists of pulling out the handle, which I was able to figure out without the instructions. I did feel like i had to be a little ginger here so as not to break the mechanism, and I will probably refrain from doing that too much. The under-platform storage is what sets these newer machines apart from my old name-brand machine. It's not loads of storage, but it's enough for the dies and stamps included with the machine, or your favorite go-to dies perhaps. I was able to wedge one of the included embossing folders into a storage slot, but it had to go in just right, so i wouldn't really do that again. I did feel comfortable leaving the smaller dies in the storage area while moving the machine around - i gave it a good shake and nothing fell out. All of the included dies, folders, stamps and papers are fine. If you're new to paper crafting they'll give you a good start, if you're established you can find some project to use these on, no problem. Cutting ability was fine using the enclosed plates. They warped a little as you'd expect, but i'd say it was minimal. I had to put some arm into the crank a few times, and you know that feeling when it's real hard to crank and you know that it's going to pop on you? It happened a few times, but I attribute that to the newness of the machine. Now, here's the big question: does this machine work with other plates? The answer is - sort of. I grabbed my fairly old name brand set of plates and took a pass. The really big, thick base plate did not fit. It was only a smidge too wide, but it was enough so that it wouldn't fit into the machine. But i could fit the rest of my name brand plates on top of the base plate that came with the machine. Now when i did that cut, that base plate came shooting out like a kid on a slip-and-slide, so you should be careful! I feel like i had to do a little more weeding overall, and I had one die towards the edge of the plate that actually didn't cut through all the way through. So I would say I don't consider the plates interchangeable, but you can kind of use other plates with this machine. Additional testing is probably needed - perhaps you get better results if you just stay closer to the center. Overall, i'm pleasantly surprised by the function of the machine. I like the portability of it and think it gives me some nice options, but I'm not going to replace my tried-and-true name brand machine with it.

This little guy is easy to set up and take down for storage. It is very compact, which is nice when you have little storage space for crafting supplies. It comes with a set of stickers, dies for cutting with, card stock papers, 2 embossing folders, a base plate, 3 cutting plates, a thin piece of plastic that I think works with the cutting plates, and a well written set of instructions. Following the instructions, I found the embossing folders very easy to use. They moved through the machine easily and I had no trouble turning the crank handle. If you need a longer or wider embossment you will need to figure out how the patterns lay out to keep the pattern going. I think that is doable, it will just take time. Following the instructions for using the cutting dies I found the stack of plates to be too tall and I had trouble turning the crank. I made the mistake of leaving the dies attached to the sheet of paper they came on, I didn't realize they were meant to be removed, so I'll have to try again with them separated to see if they move through the machine easier. The instructions say to use the base plate with plate B on top. Then you add your paper to be cut, the die with the cutting side down and finally the second plate B. The cuts came out clean and sharp, although many were stuck in the dies. I had to find a tool (an ice pick, pointy tweezers or sewing pin works well) to poke through the tiny holes on the backside of the die to get the paper to come out. I found that the top B plate also had the die shapes cut into it and the plate was curved from its first pass through the machine. The instructions stated that this could/would happen and to use the other side of the plate and switch the plates around to even out the curves and imprints. I am a little concerned that the imprint in the plate is deep enough to score future paper cuts, but I haven't had a chance to test that one out. The instructions also say that this machine can be used with other dies and embossers on the market, you just have to adjust which plates you use depending on the thickness of the dies. The machine also has two storage boxes. I was hoping they would be big enough to store the plates, but they are not. I put my dies and paper cuts into them instead.
