A 14,000 BTU portable A/C that actually handles our extreme desert heat pretty well. I ordered this Humcalo portable air conditioner to provide cooling for an older approximately 450 sq. ft. casita with a failing central A/C unit. I wasn't expecting a portable single-hose unit to perform nearly as well as the central system, especially considering our summer temperatures regularly exceed 110 degrees and have been over 115 degrees on many days. But after using this unit for about two weeks, I have been very impressed with how well it has performed. The data plate on the actual unit I received rates it at 14,000 BTU/hr ASHRAE and 9,200 BTU/hr SACC. I included a photo of the data plate with my review since portable A/C BTU ratings can sometimes be confusing. It did take a couple of hours to bring the temperature down when the casita was already hot, and during the extreme daytime heat the compressor runs almost constantly. That really isn't surprising considering the temperatures outside and the size of the space we're cooling. Once the outside temperature drops in the evening, the unit cycles much less frequently. Most importantly, it has been able to keep the casita comfortable despite some brutally hot weather. Pros: - Very well made with great overall fit and finish - Beefy, heavy unit that feels durable and well built - Actual data plate confirms 14,000 BTU/hr ASHRAE and 9,200 BTU/hr SACC cooling capacity - Starts blowing cold air almost immediately - Has done a surprisingly good job cooling our approximately 450 sq. ft. casita - Has continued to perform well with outside temperatures exceeding 110-115 degrees - Easy to set up and easy to use - Includes the exhaust hose, adjustable window vent kit, remote and necessary accessories - Window kit is versatile and fairly simple to install - Controls are straightforward and functional - Remote control is very convenient - Timer function is useful and works well - Sleep mode noticeably reduces the noise level - Fan noise is reasonable for a portable A/C of this size - Built-in casters make the unit easy to move - Compact design doesn't take up a huge amount of floor space - Fan and dehumidifier modes add useful versatility - Washable filter is easy to access and maintain - I haven't needed to drain any condensation during two weeks of use in our very dry desert climate - Overall quality and cooling performance make this a good value for our needs Cons: (All minor cons for me) - A dual-hose design with separate intake and exhaust hoses would be more efficient - Supplied exhaust hose is fairly thin and gets warm while the A/C is running - I replaced the supplied hose with an insulated exhaust hose to reduce the heat radiating back into the room - This is a fairly heavy unit, although the casters make moving it around on a hard floor easy Overall: I have been extremely happy with this portable air conditioner. Our situation has been a pretty tough real-world test because we're using it in an older approximately 450 sq. ft. casita during the hottest part of an Arizona summer. With outside temperatures regularly over 110 degrees and sometimes exceeding 115 degrees, I expected this portable unit to struggle much more than it has. It isn't instant whole-room cooling. If the casita is already hot, it takes a couple of hours to bring the temperature down, and during the hottest part of the day the compressor may run almost nonstop. However, once it catches up, it does a very good job keeping the space comfortable, and it cycles much less frequently during the cooler evening hours. I really like that the unit arrived complete and ready to use, is easy to operate, and can easily be moved despite being a seriously beefy machine (75 lbs). My only real complaint is the single-hose design and fairly thin exhaust hose. A dual-hose system would be more efficient, and I improved our installation by replacing the supplied exhaust hose with an insulated one. For our purpose, this has worked extremely well as supplemental or backup air conditioning for a space with a failing central A/C system. Based on how well it has handled two weeks of extreme desert heat, I am very impressed with its performance and would highly recommend it.

I LOOVE this 10,000 BTU aircon, I really didn't think it would work as well it it does--but it does the job, though not as well as a 2 duct system would! It looks really modern and sleek and is super easily to roll around the house! I'm really happy I ordered this "new on the market" HUMCALO portable A/C for my bedroom--even though I have a central aircon system. Know that most standard portable air cons on the market are rated at 10,000 BTU or higher under the traditional ASHRAE rating system. This one I am reviewing is 10,000 BTU. Portable units typically span a strict manufacturing range between 8,000 BTU and 14,000 BTU. I see HUMCALO also offers a 14000 BTU for sale. It's basically "Plug 'n Play", it is already assembled except for the window kit. Cooling Power: Handles rooms up to 300 to 450 square feet on hot days. We just had a horrible heatwave in SoCal and even the us in the coastal neighborhoods were feeling it! It completely cools my master bedroom down in about :20-:30 minutes--but only if i close the door. Single Duct Issue: Pushes room air outside through one hose, which pulls hot outside air back in through cracks. For the most part, it's not an issue in California's Coastal (cooler temps) Mediterranean weather areas. We are in the middle of a horrible dry heatwave and some of that hot air though is coming back into my room, meaning it takes a little longer to cool my bedroom down to a sleep-able temperature than a portable A/C unit with double hoses. would take to cool down. It completely "ice-cold" cools my master bedroom though in about :20-:30 minutes--but only if I close my bedroom door. The ideal floor area for cooling is 350 sq ft, perfect for a bedroom or a home office. But once the heatwave has passed by Labor day weekend, it should not take long to cool my master bedroom down for the other 10 months out of the year due to our low-humidity, mostly Mediterranean climate. UPDATE: I ended up buying a insulation wrap for the air hose so it wont get hot when drawing outside summer air. This should help reduce noise and reduce heat, in turn cooling my room more efficiently and faster! I purchased the hose insulation wrap from seller Benasan Store on AZ. Easy Window Kit Setup: Simple extending (good, solid) plastic material window kit is fast to install and easily moveable to other rooms. I did not like that it did not come with an extra extender piece for the window kit...I had to makeshift an extender piece because my bedroom window is longer than a standard window. AZ and local hardware stores only sell an entire kit with the duct and all--I just need one doggone plastic extender not an entire kit for $39 ! So I had to resort to a piece of wood, which looks unsightly. Noise: The motor sits inside the room with me, it's loud but to me, actually sounds like a white noise--helping me sleep better. I'm used to sleeping with sleep sound apps since Pandemic 2020 so tis unit's sound does not prevent me from sleeping. It is hard to talk on the phone though if I’m in the same room as this aircon. FYI: It is thoughtful that it has a sleep mode feature, but I have not had to use that. High Energy Use: Works harder than two-hose units to cool the same space. However, I am hopeful that by using this smaller unit in my bedroom at night will reduce my home's central aircon electrical bill. I'm no electrician math wizard, but It may possibly cost more to run than a double hose A/C. Time will tell, I will update if it ends up costing a lot more to run. If I had a choice, I would have bought one with 2 ducts, one for in air and one for out air. Portability: This is medium weight for me at 5'3" and 135lbs so I have no problems rolling it between the kitchen and my bedroom. The wheels function fantastic too. It's really dry (little to no humidity) where I live in July, with no rain in sight, so I have not had any "water" to drain from the unit yet. I love having the remote control! The 24 hr. timer is so useful, I set it to 9 hours. I can even set a child lock. I love the LED display and the 3 fan speeds., since my central A/C does not have fan speeds. This has so many well-thought out features, it's truly a gem even though it only has on hose outlet. I especially LOVE the dehumidifier, that's what really sold me. Things to Consider: Single-duct 10,000 BTU portable air conditioners cool small rooms well, and this one does the job well for CA...but they pull warm air out and can waste energy. A few key factors to think about when shopping around besides size, price and aesthetics are cooling power (BTU), noise levels, and room size it will be used in. for me, this unit worked out great...if I lived in HI, AZ, Vegas, FL or TX I would have bought a unit with a double hose instead. I had never heard of this brand...but found out HUMCALO is an obscure, lesser-known online brand that primarily sells budget-friendly climate control appliances. This includes portable air conditioners and infrared space heaters. HUMCALO, at least from what I know, primarily sells via online retailers like Amazon and international e-commerce platforms. So far I really like this portable air conditioner. I can't see the components inside but everything looks very well built from the outside and the molded air duct fittings fit very well. The controls are easy enough and the casters on the bottom are really smooth and exceptionally quiet not like the normal bottom of the suitcase type you find on most portable air conditioners. Has the reservoir for the condensation hasn't filled up yet the jury is still out on how often that will have to be done since I live in a fairly humid area. I didn't hold it against the product and I'm gonna give it a five stars but what's the deal on selling the product in the United States that reads only in Celsius???

This is a really nice AC unit! I love the fit and finish and the white color. It's really easy to use. The one thing I've found with these portable AC units is that they work much better if you can reduce the length of the exhaust hose or wrap it in insulation, otherwise it pumps out cold air in the front and the heat radiates from the hose in the back limiting the effectiveness of the unit. But even with an extended hot exhaust hose it will still cool down the room, just much slower than insulating the hose or running it at the minimum length. The remote control works great too. It also has a drain, I have not had any condensation drain from this AC unit yet, but in a humid environment you'll need the drain for sure. Also be aware that if the drain hose backs up and fills with water most AC units will stop cooling. This air conditioner has some weight to it, but it's not too heavy for one person to lift it up and move it around. Overall I really like this AC unit and consider it a great buy!

This was simple to install in a double-hung attic apartment window. The recent heat wave had this space hitting 85F+ and the main AC wasn't able to keep it cool. Adding this in the room instantly brought the temperature under control. It's not exactly quiet but not so bad either and while it takes up a bit of floor space, it has a fairly sleek look. This is going to make all the difference between being awake and sweating all night or being able to get a good night's sleep. Time will tell how long it holds up, but so far it's doing great.
