My old pump was on its last legs -- super loud, frequently overheating, and basically failing. I took a chance on this one as a replacement, and I'm very impressed with its performance over the past two weeks! Much quieter, with powerful airflow. I only need the check valve open about 50% and it's plenty of air for my 1,000 gallon koi pond. Fish seem to love it, and water is crystal clear. Installation was very easy. One tip: the hose arrived cut at an angle, which led to some air leakage. I trimmed it straight across, which seemed to resolve this. For extra security, I wrapped with painter's tape.

I got this to replace a pond aerator in our outdoor koi pond that had been in use for years but was starting to fall apart. The aerator we previously had was one that had the body submerged in the water and with one large hose that pumped air out. This one comes with six tubes that lead to six aerator stones that can be placed in different areas of the pond. I like that you can get aeration to a larger area of the pond with this setup however I ended up making some makeshift weights with river rocks to keep the tubing submerged as it wanted to float up to the surface. If you have animals other than fish that frequent your pond this might not be the best option as we ended up having a raccoon or some other animal chew through and kind of throw around several of the tubes after just two nights of use. Even though we keep our pond covered with a net to keep birds out we still end up with animals that figure out a way to get under the net and unfortunately the tubing was easy for whatever visited our pond to bite right through. Luckily the tubing is one that is easy to find but I am really hoping to figure out a way to hide them better so that hopefully this will be the last time it gets chewed. The body of the pump needs to be kept in a dry area which is a lot harder to come by in our setup than the submersible pump we previously had so if I were to replace the pump again I would do so with one that you can drop into the water. Cord length and noise level were both good for our setup.
