I've been debating for a while about polymer clay, whether my daughter (third grade) was ready or not. Ultimately, I went ahead and got this set for her to grow into, and I'm glad now that I talked myself into it. While this is a starter kit, the real value for me in it was simply in the variety of colors. The included tools are really not the best (we've already upgraded her after one usage), and the carrying case is functional but on the flimsy side. We will probably end up replacing that eventually as well. The clays all come individually wrapped, but the packaging is not reusable. Though I am aware that this clay doesn't need to be kept air-tight, the color does come off on hands and on itself, and some way to keep the colors clearly separated even after you'd opened them (a slotted case, reusable baggies, etc) would have been appreciated. The instruction manual is useful, it delineates several different methods of curing your finished work, but the English is poor and it contains several typos. The kit also includes some starter hardware for jewelry making, but there are no instructions included on how to use any of them. My daughter is not really interested in the jewelry making aspect at the moment, anyway, so they're really just there for us for now, not really part of my own value equation. What my daughter DID love that was included was the silicone mold. She's already tried it out with the polymer and is looking forward to using it in the future with her resin art. So that leaves us at the clay itself. The texture was identical to modeling clay she's used in the past, and the quantities are small. The colors did stain our hands and our tools, but a baby wipe took the stains off easily enough. The clay took imprints well and held up nicely to cutters, molds, and free-hand work. It cured within the instructed time, with no issues. Once cured, it took paint easily. The experience was overall positive on all fronts. There will definitely be a learning curve, as she gets used to working with smaller pieces and on a smaller scale, but she's over the moon that she has made figurines all by herself, and you really can't beat the 15-30 minute bake cure time over the days/weeks air dry clay pieces took to cure, or the increased durability of these pieces over other clay types. I could wish the quantities were larger, but the variety of colors makes up for it, and for the price, it's definitely a solid place to start, especially for her age. In spite of the drawbacks listed above, the overall experience was 5 star. ... show more

I got this clay for my teen daughter, who does a lot (off and on) with clay. The following are her words: There is a good range of colors, and I like the case. I like the instructions, as they even include the instructions for some of the stuff on the cover. They clay itself is very soft and a little sticky, which makes it a little harder for me to work with. The end result (after baking) is sort of bendable for thin parts -- and if you put a lot of pressure on a curve, you can break it. It takes a lot of pressure though. I made an item that is a long, twisty thing -- with a thicker portion, and then a thin bit. I did this to test the strength of the finished product. Overall, I am pleased with it. The tools and mold are very similar to tools that come in other kits. Useful if you are just starting out, but a good set of clay tools is not that expensive, and I would recommend getting one. ... show more

Very nice confined and organized kit which I absolutely love because when kids are done playing you always want to spot to put the stuff back where it came from so I can tell you that just starting off with this review that there is a container that fits everything and it's easily to pick up is definitely getting five stars from the start. LOL... Moving on to the clay is exceptionally nice with many of colors the clay is nice and soft easy to mold easy for children to play with including adults it comes with many safety tools did you many of arts and crafts and designs me and my daughter had a blast with this last week and we need all different characters now I just have to get the instructions on how to bake the clay in the oven to this way to get hard but she made character figures she made the planet it's very nice they come in little packages every color has about five strips of each color inside these little packages and leaving it out doesn't even make it old or hard I do suggest putting it away after you're done but even if you don't cuz my daughter forgot to put it away one night it was still soft the next morning it does not get hard or stale. I definitely could say that you can make a great gift they are worth the money and lots of fun... It's great quality time spent... ... show more
