What I can't tell you - I can't compare these speakers to a 2or 3 thousand dollar set of speakers. I have never had speakers that expensive and even much more in my home. I have heard them in a specialty store but not at home. They will sound different in the studio than at home. I do know the higher class speakers have beautifully constructed cabinets, well damped inside and higher quality components. What I can tell you - These speakers do look nice even though they are not made of fine woods and have rounded or beveled edges. In fact I have seen some brands of tower speakers that cost 3 times as much as these speakers and they have the same basic square edge construction on the outside. I think these speaker look impressive for the money. Ok, the grille is not magnetic but it is secure and looks very nice. The connection posts on the back are very nice. They added a nice touch to the base even though it is just cosmetic. Now on to the sound. I have these speakers hooked up to a brand new 80 watts per channel Yamaha amplifier (not receiver), a brand new Cambridge CD player, a brand new Andover Spindeck Max Turntable, and a high resolution streamer. I am using a new Klipsch 10 inch subwoofer all items purchased through Amazon. I am only using this system for stereo music. The highs from these speakers are very crisp and clear. The mid sound is warm and robust. The lows are very adequate but can come nowhere near to what a dedicated subwoofer can produce. I knew this going in which is why I wanted the subwoofer. Overall I am totally pleased with the music these towers produce and the 80 watt amp drives them beautifully and they can get quite loud without distortion unless you go nuts and over drive them to the extreme. Now would a 2 or 3 thousand dollar pair of towers out perform them? I would say yes. But the big question is does the 2 or 3 thousand dollar set give you a 2 or 3 thousand dollar performance increase? I would venture to say they are better but not thousands better. Of course this is my opinion and I am not an audiophile, but I have listened to different systems all of my life and I do know what sounds good and what does not. I have heard some crappy systems. I am sure an expert might hear or not hear things I should hear but again, I am totally pleased with the sound these speakers produce and I don't give a flying fig if they are missing a little detail. ... show more

I paired these speakers(2) with the Sony STR-AN1000 receiver because of it's neutral sound. the clarity of Hi-Fi music on these is incredible and atleast on my receiver when I push the bass to +3 those low frequency bass lines hit harder then the 8in powered boston sub I am replacing when I get the rest of the XT Monitor Series from Polk. Let's put it like this. I am hearing music like I've never heard before and I've owned other sound systems over the years. For movies they're amazing and IMO the sound quality is really gonna depend on the music you play. I like my metal and I also do love electronic music. Lately I been playing the spacebass genre because the sound is jaw dropping and metal has taken a back seat for now. ... show more

The Monitor XT70 is a massive speaker compared to the MXT60. It sounds amazing, and looks really good too. Now with them up front, along with the MXT30 Center Channel, a pair of MXT60 Floor Standing Speakers that I use for side surround, and a set of MXT20 Bookshelf Speakers at the rear. I hooked these up to a 7.1 surround sound system and I didn't even bother to hook up the other speakers. These are incredible! There's just one thing to keep in mind: These are not sold in pairs, so make sure you order (2).

I'm happy with these. I got bought a pair along with the Polk Audio Monitor XT35. Even without the subwoofer (which I will be getting later), there is plenty bass.
