Should I Buy It?

If you're in need of a reliable and quick heart rate monitor with an improved strap and don't mind keeping up with regular maintenance, this product is a worthy investment. • A vast improvement to the older sensor. Great pickup, no delay, better clip, I'm glad I got it
I have used the Polar sensors for years. I have gone from the ones with permanent batteries the ones with replacement batteries. But, I have been less than enamored with the pickup and sensitivity of the replaceable battery straps. My old polar strap was showing wear. Actually, the rubber snaps where the sensor clips in were deteriorating. The rubber grommets had cracks and were starting to flake off. I do wash my strap after every use, rinse it, hang it to dry, and remove the sensor. That seems to be the trick to a long battery life. If you don't take the sensor off, the sweat on the strap will continue to conduct a current to the electrodes and the system doesn't stop trying to transmit. And, the sweat seems to cause a rapid deterioration of the sensors and the pickup if they aren't rinsed off. So, my old strap is showing wear, and I decided to get this new one. All I can say is Wow. It is so much better than the old model. I used to have to wet the sensors to get any pickup, and even then it would take about five minutes of working out till the body heat and sweat caused a HR pickup. This one works dry, immediately, no response delay. The new strap has additional pickups on both sides of the chest. This may be the trick. Also, the clip is no longer a hook, but a simple clip that is easy to insert and release. Works great with all gym equipment and my Precor elliptical. They say the battery life is almost twice as long... I can't vouch for it as I have only used this one for one week. But, in that week, I am convinced. This is a vast improvement. So, if you have an older Polar sensor, trade up, it is definitely worth it. A quick follow up. I have used it with an Android tablet, the blue tooth pickup is perfect. I have used it with a Concept 2 ergo exercise, no issues with blue tooth pickup I have used it with the Precor, no issues And, the pickup is more sensitive. Update on this review on October 2018 The pickup on the monitor is becoming a little flaky. This appears to be a problem with almost all the polar monitors. My solution is always been to hand wash the chest strap with soap and water and make sure all sweat is removed from the electrodes. I then use a Q-tip to clean out the attachment snaps. I also hand wash the Bluetooth pickup with the battery sealed in place. I then again use a Q-tip to carefully clean out the area of the snaps. This always seems to provide a short-term solution. However these monitors do appear to have about a one year lifespan. As an aside, if you do a battery exchange and it doesn't work try another battery. I have noticed that many of the 2025 batteries are showing less than one half charge in a brand-new package purchased from a local store ... show more

  • I now understand why this item is as expensive as it is.
There is a reason that this item is pricey, it's because it works FLAWLESSLY! This is rock solid and doesn't miss a beat. I love the recording mode if you don't have your phone with you but wish that it would hold more than 1 hour of telemetry data while not connected to the phone. It would be very easy to add enough storage to this device to allow hours if not days of telemetry storage while away from the phone and honestly I would be ok paying an extra $10-20 for this upgrade if it was available. The range is good to my iPhone 6s+ and I have yet to see it miss any data or not accurately report heart rate. I will manually check my pulse occasionally just to see how accurate it is and it's consistently within 2-5bpm. I bought this because I lift weights in circuit training as this is how i get my cardio and this is completely accurate. While most wrist based monitors only work well for cardio based workouts [my Apple watch would be as much as 100bpm off while lifting, yet only 2-5bpm off while on a stationary bike] this is perfect for my lifting regimine and collects telemetry data flawlessly. Just remember to unsnap 1 side of it to turn it off so you don't run down the battery when not in use as the battery says it lasts about 400 hours. Also while the battery is user replaceable [awesome], I do not know if there is a low battery warning in the application. The one thing that I wish is that it would register the workout data with the Apple health application quicker. It takes anywhere from 1-6 hours before I will get the notification on my Apple Watch from the health app that I have completed my daily exercise quota. But it does register data with the Health app and maintains the monthly log data. ... show more

  • Very Good HRM - Useful Life 3 years or so I thought....
I bought this in June 2020. I have used it for a few hundred hours I suppose, running, paddle boarding, skiing, playing tennis and the like. I am on my second battery. It is a little twitchy. Often it does not start reading right away, even if I use contact goop. I also wear it off center left, otherwise it does not work at all. But after getting used to these quirks it works fine. Also the Polar Beat app is pretty terrible. I used it for awhile then shifted to an app called Runmeter. It is much more user friendly, programmable etc. Today, or rather last night it just stopped working. I played tennis and it did not show my pulse. The unit is sending signal but no pulse info. I changed the battery. Did a reset and still no pulse. Personally, I think that stinks. Most of my sporting goods and consumer electronics last for many, many years. Why did this die after not even 3 years. So now I am purchasing an h9 as a replacement. It is $30.00 cheaper and just as good. The strap is different but I can use my h10 strap with it, unless the strap is my problem and not the device. I won't be able to test that till I get the H9. If I learn something more I will report back at that time. Well, I did learn something. As soon as I got my H9 I took out the belt and tested my original h10 sensor. It worked fine on the new belt. Then I put it on the old belt and guess what. After about 20 seconds it started working just fine. I'm guessing putting it on the H9 belt somehow reset it. I played tennis last night and it worked fine for a couple of hours. Today I am returning the H9. I never even tried the H9 sensor. I feel badly for the vendor, but Polar could do a better job of creating a reset-able H10 or giving the customer more trouble shooting instructions that actually work. ... show more
