  • The Pocket Radar coach is an excellent product. Easy to use and very exact when used accordingly to the specification
The Pocket Radar coach is an excellent product. Easy to use and very exact when used accordingly to its specification. My son pitches for various 14U teams during the year and I use this radar device in many of his games to measure his cruising fastball velocity as well to calculate his change-up to fastball differential. For about $300 dollars, this small device does the same precise job as other expensive baseball radar devices in the market. If you don’t need to take velocity reading from far away distance in wide angles deviations from home plate, then this little device is for you. I have suggested to the company that builds this device to add Text to speech capability mode. This will allow me to get immediate feedback of his velocity when I catch him during our pitching practices. Once the pitchers are throwing around 70+ miles, it is very hard and dangerous to catch them while holding the radar in your throwing hand. Typically, during these type of practices, that is (just the two of us) , I used to place the radar in a tripod safely behind me and set it to “continuous” reading mode. It has a decent buffer size. After 20 pitches, I read the buffered velocities and reset it. Recently I have placed the Radar on top of the catchers helmet using some GoPro widgets... see attached figure... ... show more

  • Coaching Point
The pocket radar is a great tool for a coach to have in his/her bag. It is a quick, accurate reading that allows coaches to see where their players' velocity is at. From that point, a coach can use the information different ways to help the athlete's growth as a player.

  • Awesome tool
The ball coach works great and seems to be pretty accurate. The downside is its range for use and if you can't be directly behind or in front of the ball.

  • very accurate
Bought this after i had some suspicions my Bushnell gun was off. Much improved! The bushnell is accurate if you're very close -within about 20 ft. -otherwise it picks up the ball too late to give an accurate read and gives a lot of misreads. Was constantly off by ~7-10 mph. Ball coach has good range, easy to use, and accurate. Wish I'd bought it sooner. It's expensive, but personally, an inaccurate gun is useless. What's the point in measuring ball speed, using something that doesn't work (Bushnell). Would definitely recommend the upgrade. ... show more

  • Product meets expectations
I finally got to use the Pocket Radar today and it lives up to the websites description. I found the unit very easy to use although, I only used the single pitch option today. I do plan on placing it in a stationary position and trying the Con feature, which will record 25 pitches. It's about the size of an iPhone, which will be nice once the games start (easier to check pitching speeds verse a big Jugs gun. People will think your taking pictures with a phone). It comes with a nice case that will clip to your belt, for easy carrying. Very nice product and value - for the money. UPDATE: After using this radar for the rest of the 2017 season, I've upped the rating to 5 stars. I started out just using the single pitch option but the continuos mode is the way to go. Well worth the money. ... show more

  • battery life is pretty good (about 6-8 games between battery changes) and gets ...
I bought this at the beginning of summer to monitor by son's velo. He pitches at the D-1 level and he wanted to work on a few things over the summer in his collegiate league. On the jugs guns his normal 4-seam velo is 92-94. The pocket radar seems to put him 90-92. For his off-speed pitches in upper 70s/lows 80s it seems to be right on the mark. If I am not right behind the backstop, it seems to have a hard time picking up the pitch. I would say you have to be less than 15 degrees off the center line between catcher and pitcher to get a reading. You also cannot be more than about 70 feet behind the catcher (makes being in the stands very hard) to get the accuracy above. The plus side it is small, battery life is pretty good (about 6-8 games between battery changes) and gets you in the neighborhood of velocity. The price is fair, but I would like it to read velo above 90 mph with a little more accuracy. ... show more
