  • 4 monitors on my MacBook M4
That's not counting the built-in display, which still works even with all four monitors connected. Worth noting is that I do NOT have the M4 Max chipset, so I'm using DisplayLink. My MacBook is model MX2U3LL/A (not that that matters much). My previous MacBook was an M2, and I was able to connect four monitors without having to resort to DisplayLink. I was disappointed to find that doesn't work with my new employer-purchased M4. From what I've read, Apple has limited display functionality to two monitors on everything except the Max in the newer chipsets. Stupid. I choose this dock after doing quite a bit of research. There are more expensive docks, but this seemed to be the one that would best fit my goal of connecting four monitors, and which seemed to have the fewest reported problems. it turned out to be a good choice. After installing the DisplayLink driver and connecting everything, then finally connecting the dock to my MacBook with the included Thunderbolt cable, all of the displays lit up. Quite frankly, I'm amazed at how easy it was. After reading the technical information about DisplayLink, I thought I'd have to spend hours fiddling around with things to get it working. I had zero hopes of this thing working right out of the box, and it surprised me. DisplayLink isn't for everyone. I'm a software developer, so I don't care about ultra-fast frame rates. If you're a gamer, then DisplayLink probably isn't the right choice. However, for my needs, I can't tell a difference between the two monitors using DisplayLink and the two using native graphics. All four monitors are set at their max resolution, there is no degradation in picture quality. ... show more

  • Works right out of the box
This is my 2nd dock from pluggable - the first one was a smaller version. Since I had the driver already loaded from the first pluggable dock, this new dock worked seamlessly as soon as I plugged it in. I have tried others from other companies selling on Amazon and they just dont work as well as pluggable - this saves me a lot of pain and it really works right out of the box. Just make sure you follow the directions of setting up and they provide a cable that has to be used from the pluggable device to your Macbook. My Macbook with the M1 chip does not allow multiple windows on external terminals but pluggable has figured out how to view different windows through the installation fo their driver which enables the viewing of different windows on different terminals. This model allows 4 external terminals and I have attached two external monitors and my larger screen TV, which I had to use the display link port on the pluggable and not the HDMI - this is done to stream on TV as well if you want to - if you use HDMI ports on the pluggable that will not allow you to stream on the TV - and for that matter it wont allow streaming on my my two monitors that I have connected through HDMi ports to the pluggable dock. It's a minor inconvenience but it has to do with copyrights I assume with the streaming channels and probably Apple, once you install the driver that is required to run the pluggable dock. To hook the TV to the pluggable you will have to purchase a cable that has an HDMI outlet on one end to plug into the TV and a USB C outlet on the other end to connect into the display link pluggable connection. A great buy and a fantastic product! ... show more

  • Works great does not overheat
Although it’s a bit pricey, it functions perfectly for my MacBook Pro allowing me to plug in multiple monitors and multiple hard drives. I did a lot of research because I wanted to be able to plug in multiple monitors and this one allows you to do so. I also like the way it lays flat, which allows me to put connected items on both sides of the drive. The driver itself is always cold temperature. It does plug into the wall and is thus externally powered. ... show more

  • Overheats easy. Not using.
Overheats easily.. as soon as you plug it in, it heats up. You turn it on, it gets super hot. I only used it once and haven’t used it since. I have my Apple laptop + 2 flat panels plugged it. I would not recommend it.

  • Solid Thunderbolt 4 Dock – Handles Quad Displays and Heavy Workloads with Ease
I’ve tested quite a few docks over the years, and this Plugable Thunderbolt 4 Dock stands out for its stability and thoughtful design. Setup was truly plug-and-play — my laptop recognized it instantly, and all connected monitors came online without driver installs or restarts. I’m currently running three external 4K displays and one 1080p monitor along with a mechanical keyboard, mouse, Ethernet, and webcam. Everything runs smoothly, and I haven’t seen any flickering, dropouts, or lag. The 100W power delivery easily keeps my laptop charged even under load, and data transfer through the USB ports has been consistently fast. What impressed me most is how cool and quiet the dock stays, even when all ports are active. The build feels premium, and the compact footprint keeps my desk clean. If you need a reliable Thunderbolt 4 solution for a multi-monitor setup, especially for remote work or creative workflows, this one just works — no fuss, no troubleshooting. Plugable clearly put real engineering behind this product. Pros: • Seamless setup with Windows and macOS • True 100W charging • Stable 4K display performance • Excellent build quality and heat control Cons: • Slightly higher price point, but justified by performance ... show more
