These are nice heavy duty stoneware dish set. These do have a modern look. They stack nicely in the cabinet. The plates have a small lip on the edge, perfect for my kids. (Keeping food on plate). These did not scratch when cutting food on them. The bowl is a nice size. The mug is not to big, These came well packed.

First things first, the colors in the photos are a bit lighter than they are in person. When I pulled these out of the box, they were a deep medium blue. These are the best stoneware sets I've had so far. The biggest thing for me was how flat they are. They sit flat on the table. This means you don't have to worry about cutting something on the plate too close to the edge and having the opposite side lifting up. Another feature of being flat like this, instant, quick cutting board. When you need to slice something up quickly, these serve in a pinch. I am so thrilled with everything as far as quality and durability goes so far. The only minor quibble I have is the mugs. They seem to be on the smaller side as far as capacity goes. It seems like my coffee disappears quicker when I use these mugs compared to my other coffee mugs. If that might be an issue for you, they sell the same set without mugs and at a cheaper price too. At any rate, this is a great set and I actually grabbed the no mug set so I have a total of 8 settings. Couldn't be any happier!

I've thought about how I want to use these, and I've finally decided. While the dishes stack well, they seem too fragile to use as every day dishes, so I'm going to use them for serving appetizers when company comes. The plates and sideplates are the perfect size to use for serving a variety of appetizers, or for just 4 of us, the sideplates can be used to eat from. The bowls are huge and are good for soup and cereal, and the coffee cups are a nice size for morning coffee. While I'm not using them for what I thought I would, I'm glad I got them.
