I bought this item to help with the transfer of pizza from prep to pizza stone. I was using a large cutting board and ruined my pizza plenty of times (and melted some of my cutting board) trying to do it this way. I decided it was time to get serious and get a pizza peel. I decided to go with this one. The peel gives you plenty of space to prep a large pizza, with a nice sized handle for moving the pizza when ready. I was sure to use enough flour to keep the dough from sticking and was prepared to hopefully not ruin a perfectly prepped pizza during the transfer. The pizza slid off perfectly, and right down the tapered end onto the stone. I feel immense relief when I realized how easy that was. Why did I wait so long to get a proper peel and make pizzas they way they should be? The peel itself is a nice solid, smooth bamboo surface which is easy to clean. I’ve found it to be quite sturdy and easy to handle. The edge is tapered to allow the pizza to slide off easily. The label that is affixed to the peel did allow some ink to transfer to the bamboo, but this came off with some soap, water, and some scrubbing. Be sure to wash and dry before your first use. Overall I’m quite happy with adding this pizza peel to my pizza prep arsenal.

The bamboo pizza peel is made with three-ply layers of bamboo. Wood is a natural material that expands and contracts as it absorbs moisture and dries out again. Its two outer wood layers have a grain pattern that runs in the direction of the paddles’ length while its inner layer’s grain runs 90 degrees across the grain of those outer layers. These alternate wood grain patterns stabilize the pizza paddle by preventing the flat wood surface from splitting, cupping, or warping. Advertised as weighing 2.9 pounds, my pizza peel weighed close to 3.1 pounds according to my kitchen scale. The only reason I measured its weight was that the paddle felt heavy when I initially hefted it. That initial assessment could have been caused by holding the pizza peel by the handle, which extends its center of gravity forward, beyond the end of my arm. Topping it with a condiment-loaded pizza before insertion into a hot oven will increase its forward weight to 5 pounds or more. My focus on the paddle’s weight may lead someone to believe it’s a negative, but it’s not. I only mentioned it because I wasn’t expecting the pizza peel to weigh as much as it did, but being made of wood, I should have. The Culberta pizza peel is an attractive well-made kitchen-baking accessory that I’m happy to have and will be even happier to show off at my next pizza party.

This is a nice quality pizza board, very well made. It has a smooth surface, is easy to clean, & has a hole on the handle for easy storage. The measurements are accurate, and it has a front edge to smoothly slide under the pizza & easily transport the pizza in & out of a pizza oven.

Overall: This is a big, solid wood pizza peel—plenty big enough for a 16+ inch pizza. The handle is not super long, but it is a good length for reaching into the oven. It is thicker than other peels I have used. The front edge is tapered to help make it easier to get under the pizza. I suspect that as this edge blunts/dulls over time, it may need a quick sanding to bring back the edge. Since it is thicker than other peels I have used, it's also a bit heavier too. With a pizza on the peel, you may want to use two hands to get a good hold of it when its loaded. Other than that, it's a very nice item that will last a long time if taken care of.

So i'm honestly impressed with the size of this one. It's very durable and was awesome for getting pizza out of the oven. Very easy to clean. The bamboo is very soft and sturdy. My man accidentally dropped it down the stairs and it didn't even get a scratch! i was so surprised on the sturdiness. it's even appears to be drop-proof! My only con is that I bought it for the Ooni and it definitely doesn't fit our ooni pizza wood oven but that's ok! It's great for our homemade pizza nights with the kids, doubles as a spacious cutting board and even works great with frozen pizza ( i hate putting those in and relying on the flimsy cardboard) Keep in mind on the size if you need it for a specific purpose.

We cook together a lot as a family and are always fighting over cutting boards-especially on pizza or charcuterie night! This is much larger than I anticipated and I could not be happier about it. It is lightweight, but sturdy. I put our pizza cutter on it to show the size in the last photo. It is made of bamboo and too large for the dishwasher, but easy to hand wash. Really great pizza board.

I don’t have a brick oven yet, so I can’t make BOPs yet. But I use this to keep my pizza stone preheated when I’m making more than one pizza. And it feels fun, like I might know what I’m doing. The peel is nice, it comes finished, no need to season from what I can tell, it does have some issue with loose wood grain on the large faces. But I haven’t had any issues with it, and I imagine that the loose pieces will sand off over time, washing, and use.
