  • Brought my old car into the modern age
Color: PMD2A-S-brb
I bought this in combination with a new all-screen head unit to replace my old factory stereo in a 1995 BMW M3 (E36). Routing the very long, provided cable from behind the stereo unit to the back of the car was fairly easy. The wiring instructions were accurate, but not very detailed, so I watched a few Youtube videos on wiring a backup camera to better understand all the connections. Due to my license plate being very tight against the trunk lock assembly, I had to mount the camera off center, but it resulted in a very stealthy installation and still works very well. Due to the offset mounting, I appreciated the option to "cut the white wire" to turn off the built-in parking assist lines and use the lines built into my head unit, which I could adjust for the slightly skewed viewpoint. The image is clear. The fuzziness you see in the photos is mostly due to the low resolution of my screen (only about 600x400 pixels for the camera image). Perfectly adequate for parking or seeing pedestrians. The viewing angle is very wide and I have mounted it so that the bottom of the screen can see the ground about 18 inches from the back of my car. The red line in the pictures corresponds to 3 feet and the green line is about 10 feet away. I have not yet tested the camera in the dark, but one of the reasons I purchased this unit was the low lux rating, so I expect it to work well with just my car's backup lights. I'll update this review once I have some nighttime samples. ... show more

  • Great little camera
Color: PMD2A-S-brb
Great value for the price. The license plate bracket wasn't the best fit due to the style of my car. No problem, the screws are very small be prepared to find them after the fall a few times. The wire was long enough to reach the radio no problem. The screen was reversed so I ended up cutting the green wire in the loop and it went to normal after a quick email response. Small plug was great so you don't have to drill a big hole to fish the wire through your car. The instructions was lacking on details but I made it with a little effort and trial and error. The software doesn't allow you to do all the things a high end camera does. For the price and picture great and night time vision was clear !!!! ... show more

  • Clear Vision and Safety in One Tiny Package
Color: PMD2A-S-brb
If you’ve ever wished your car could be equipped with a camera that actually lets you see what’s behind you (and not just a blurry mess), the PixelMan 1080p Backup Camera is here to make that dream a reality. First, let’s talk clarity—the 1080p resolution is sharp, crisp, and makes reversing feel like you’re getting a bird’s-eye view of the world behind you. No more guessing if you’re about to back into something (or someone). The picture quality is impressive for such a small device. The installation is pretty straightforward, and the camera itself is compact yet durable, so it fits seamlessly into your car setup without looking out of place. The wide-angle view is a game-changer, and it even has some night vision functionality, which is perfect for those late-night grocery runs when you’re just trying to avoid hitting the trash cans. Final Verdict: If you need a reliable backup camera with great clarity and ease of use, PixelMan’s 1080p Backup Camera is your go-to. It’ll make reversing safer, clearer, and a whole lot less stressful. ... show more

  • Good image quality, easy install, but, the camera slips over time
Color: PMD2A-S-brb
Came with plenty of wire to run from my hatch on a Mazda cx-5 to pioneer car stereo. Once I connected the power from the camera to the trigger switch, backup light and RCA in, everything worked great. I initially missed the trigger wire connection and it was spotty. But, fixing this, it now triggers reliably. The image is clear in my pioneer head unit. The biggest issue is the eventual movement of the camera. I have found after 5000 ish miles, I have to get out the screw driver re-angle the camera and tighten it back down. Seems like the screws could use some thread locker. I may try this and see if that keeps it in place longer. ... show more

  • I am super impressed with this camera
Color: PMD2A-S-brb
I read most of the 1-star ads for various cameras and felt discouraged about their quality and reliability. (I never know the exact reasons why some buyers have so much trouble with their purchases.) When I came to PixelMan's advertisement, I related to their experience of trying to figure out why so many cameras seemed to be failing. But in this case, I didn't have to do the work because they had already purchased a bunch of them and tested to look for possible causes. Then they said they had used a metal housing instead of plastic, had sealed and dipped the housing in waterproofing solution, etc. I already had a plastic camera on hand that came with my head unit, so I looked forward to discovering whether PixelMan's camera would feel noticeably heavier in my hand like they claimed. Sure enough, the PixelMan's camera is significantly heavier. I did not notice any areas where water might enter, but based upon the tests they had run on competitor's cameras, I got the impression that most did not have gaps when they first arrived. The problems occurred after being in outdoor environments for a while in heat and cold. I live in Phoenix, so the fact that PixelMan tried to design their camera housing to survive temperature changes was a big selling point for me. PixelMan's ad also addressed the issue of wiring with inadequate shielding. I had encountered this while researching 1-star ads for a surveillance system I had installed on my house. Some buyers had reported that they had to ditch the cables that came with their system and buy more heavily shielded cables because of signal degradation due to small gauge wiring and poor shielding. This was especially a problem with cable runs of 100 feet where an extension cable had to be added to the run. To avoid this issue, I searched for heavier gauge extensions for the house cameras, but most of the ads did not list the size gauge of the wire. Fry's Electronics was still in business at that time, so I visited one of their stores and held various brands of wire in my hand to compare the weights. One was a lot heavier (meaning thicker gauge copper wire), so I bought that one instead of the lighter extensions. I don't think that PixelMan is claiming its wire is thicker gauge than the competitors, but it does claim to have superior shielding, and that is what matters. The gauge probably isn't an issue because 10 meters of wire is more than enough to reach from the rear license plate to the head unit in the dash. I was surprised when the package arrived and there was a printed enclosure that warned not to use competitors' extension cables with PixelMan's cameras, but instead to email PixelMan and they would mail a free extension cable that has the necessary shielding for the long run. They said they would also include a free cigarette lighter USB charger. I was planning to add the camera to the rear of a long enclosed trailer, so I took them up on their offer. They mailed both the cable and USB charger from overseas and they arrived in a little over a week. I am impressed with the charger because it appears the entire housing is made of aluminum. It is composed of two pieces that thread together, which I've never seen on molded plastic chargers. I'm glad I ordered the PixelMan camera just for the camera and original cable, because it seems like a good value, especially if it is as water resistant as they claim and therefore I don't have to replace it as happens with so many cameras of lesser quality. But because I needed an extension cable as well, their free offer saved me from having to spend money on an extra cable. And then to top it off, I got a free charger that also seems of unusually good quality. Not all head units can take advantage of PixelMan's HD quality, but mine does. As the instructions say, it is necessary to cut one of the wires on PixelMan's cable to activate the higher quality. Otherwise the camera will be sending a 720p signal even if your head unit is cable of displaying a higher quality image. ... show more
