I have been fishing for over 65 years (Yes, I am an old goat) but I cannot justify anyone who is a off and on fisherman buying 100-300.00 dollar reels. Believe me, I have. This reel is an absolute winner from the line retrieve to the smoothness of cranking it when you got that ol' bass a fightin'. This reel is an absolute steal at this price. Yes, it's made n China, but so are 90% of all the reels from shimano to pflueger etc. I have over 25 rod and reel set-ups and I actually go to this reel or my daiwa excelser. It's foolish in this day and age to lay out a chunk of money for a recreational fisherman, when reels like this are available. I bought the 2000 series with the faster retrieve. Oh yea, those guys on the tour toughting stella's and other high end reels aren't paying for those. Their sponsor gives them free to them. I stand by my review. I took this reel (2000 series) out walleye fishing yesterday. It had no problem hauling in some really big aggressive fish. The reel capacity is great. It took 20 yards of 17lb fluoro backing and 125 yards of 10lb translucent stealth braid. It let line peel off easily on long casts and drop-shot with as little as 1/4oz jigs and weighs. It has a 6.2-1 gear ratio and pulls in over 30” of line per turn. It looks and feels like it is quality built and this was a great value for the price. ... show more

This is my 5th Viper reel, used this one for most of the summer without issue. I have mostly the 2k size and one 4K, and they’re all excellent reels. Super smooth, super fast, seem to be well made. I’m on my 4th season of weekly walleye fishing with my other reels so they seem to hold up well. I paired this one with a medium Ugly Stik Lite Pro and it’s been a good all around set up this summer.
