  • Excellent budget reel
Size: 8.1:1 Gear Ratio Style: Right Hand Retrieve - Double Handle
This is as good as a budget reel can get. I normally fish Daiwa Lexas/ Tatulas, Shimano Curados/ Scorpions/ Tranx, Penn Fathoms LP…etc. i have my preferences but not brand specific. At times I like to just purchase reels just to try them out. I service reels as a hobby so I like to open up each reel to see what they are made of. This Alijoz 300 is actually good. It’s smooth, solid, great drag system, casts very well. Internally, it’s almost like the mainstream brands in regards to materials used. Design is slightly different on freespool clutch system (more plastic parts). Bearings are lower quality bearings but this is a low price budget reel, so it’s fine. Currently I have two Alijoz 300, both came from factory with a light coat of white light weigh grease. I’ve added Yamaha marine grease to all necessary parts including the bearing under the main drive shaft; and oiled all other bearings with ReelX. I fish mainly saltwater and so far this reel is holding up fine. For the price, they are good reels. At sale price, they are excellent reels. They are not as tight tolerance and refined as like the higher end Shimano tranx and daiwa lexa. But for less than half the price I’d recommend them for sure. ... show more

  • quality SPJ reel without the big brand price tag
Size: 6.6:1 Gear Ratio Style: Right Hand Retrieve - Powerful Handle
I love buying gear that people typically don't have. I usually look on japan, korea, and thailand tackle websites for stuff and for some reason the Kastking name was popping up on their websites. Decided to pick up a 300 size baitcast reel with a power handle for slow pitch jigging. Of course I had to modify it to my liking (new longer handle and new power knob). So far I've only taken it out once but this thing is awesome. We dropped down to 900-1200ft depths for rockfish. This reel holds plenty of line (if you buy the right kind), and the drag was smooth. 6.6 gear ratio is perfect for working the lures correctly while also reeling in the fish at a steady speed. FYI, the "right kind" of line that i used was the daiwa saltiga SJ in pe 1.5 (26#). you wont easily find a thinner line with a good price. I was in Japan for work recently and their equivalent sized line is 3-4x the price. ... show more

  • Seems like a winner so far!
Size: 8.1:1 Gear Ratio Style: Right Hand Retrieve - Powerful Handle
Spent many years tournament bass fishing and was pretty successful at it, I tried many baitcasters and always went back to Shimano my favourite being the older Chronarch CH100B, I even found the Curado 200D wanting (I've never fished with the newer versions). I tried the other brands and could never get consistent casting with them like the Chronarchs. I was what is classed as a power fisherman and would make in excess of 2000 casts in a day. A few years ago I got bored of bass fishing and started Saltwater fishing (can't say I'm any good at it yet), so switched to spinning reels but I miss fishing with baitcasters when spending hours slinging lures off the boat. Was very keen on getting a Shimano Tranx 300 but they are just too expensive for me at the moment. So I got my new Alijos 300 just after Xmas and went out yesterday to give it a good run. I spooled it with 300m of 20lb braid mounted on an old Shimano Compre 7ft MH Extra fast action and so far I am pretty impressed. Had a 5/8 oz or 18g spoon/jig rigged up and I was very pleased with how well the reel performs. Gets good distance and I had no overruns with the brakes set on 4 (I do control the spool with my thumb though). The reel pitches nicely too. Just caught a bunch of small 1lb to 2lb Bluefish yesterday so nothing to really test the drag but it seems pretty smooth with lots of fine adjustment, certainly seems to have a pretty serious drag as advertised. Reel looks lovely and feels like its put together very well. The power handle and larger frame size will take a bit of getting used to but for it's intended purpose is required. The high speed retrieve works well for burning saltwater lures. Considering it's large spool it casts very well and feels robust, I give it a 5 star rating for now but have dropped it to 4 until it shows how well it stands up to the saltwater environment. Once it's fought a few drag burners and seen a bit more saltwater I will update the review. If it stands the test of time then the $90 after discount price tag is a no brainer if you're looking for a heavy duty low profile baitcaster. ... show more

  • Smooth, great casting reel .
Size: 8.1:1 Gear Ratio Style: Left Hand Retrieve - Powerful Handle
I purchased this reel a couple of weeks ago. I was really impressed by the smoothness of the reel while casting it. It is definitely a worthwhile purchase in my opinion. The only drawback that I could find when comparing it to some of my other more expensive reels was that I found the handle had a little wobbliness in it. Not a big thing and i am sure that it can be shimmed up. Would I recommend someone purchasing this reel over a Diawa or a Shimano . The answer is hell ya. It is more than worth it. ... show more

  • Impressive Reel
Size: 8.1:1 Gear Ratio Style: Right Hand Retrieve - Powerful Handle
Ok, I’ve had this reel for 2 years now and use it exclusively fishing in saltwater in the backwaters of the Florida Everglades. Caught numerous speckled trout and it performed beautifully. Casting is wonderful with no backlashes. Have it spooled with 30 pound braid and a 20 pound mono top shot. It is paired with an Ugly Stik Tiger Lite pistol grip rod, med heavy action. Last week was seeing barracuda in the area and put on a wire leader. Hooked up on a 6 ft lemon shark. The 33 pounds of drag worked flawless and was able to stop and slowly bring the fish to the boat. Totally impressed with this reel. ... show more

  • Great reel, very strong and smooth

Reeled this puppy up like there was nothing on the end. Love this reel. Remember you have to have at least a 1/2 ounce of weight on here.
