  • Great Head Unit with Reliable Wireless CarPlay
This screen was easy to install—just a wire harness, and it worked great. It fit my truck well, even though it originally didn’t have a screen, so I had to make a few adjustments. Once installed, it was perfect. The Bluetooth connectivity is solid, automatically pairing with my phone every time I start the car. The EQ adjustments allow for good sound customization, and the screen layout is intuitive. I specifically bought this for wireless Apple CarPlay, and it works flawlessly. Maybe once in 100 times, it won’t connect right away, but that only happens when I’m running multiple errands with frequent car restarts. One minor issue is that when my car starts, it connects to my phone but doesn’t always open Apple CarPlay automatically. Instead, it sometimes displays a basic media screen with my phone’s music, showing skip, pause, album art, and song info. It’s not a dealbreaker, but I’d prefer if it defaulted to CarPlay instead. Overall, this is an excellent digital multimedia receiver with great wireless CarPlay functionality and an easy installation process. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Amazing head unit!!
This Pioneer has been out for a few years, so I feel for the people that had any issues due to buggy firmware since its release. But I guess I got lucky buying this now in 2024. Had a model under this one, the Pioneer 2770NEX, and it was excellent as well. But this not only sounds better. But it’s loaded with way more features to customize your audio settings. Time alignment, crossover slopes, etc. Wireless CarPlay works flawlessly. And the 4V pre-outs for my 5 channel amp made a huge difference. If you’re looking at this in 2024, it’s absolutely worth it. For an all in one solution for steering wheel controls and back up camera retention, I highly suggest you get a harness from Spiral Audio. ... show more

  • I would not buy any Pioneer product again.
This unit is half baked. The icons on the left for menu, mic, and volume don't work. Getting a software update to transfer is impossible using the directions. Android Auto keeps crashing. When it does not crash, it is very frustrating to use. The users manual is lacking. When playing in Bluetooth music you cannot fast forward or advance whereas previous ones would allow me to touch the timeline to put the focus on where I wanted it USB instead of Wi-Fi connection doesn't work with Android auto Bluetooth does not reliably play audio after connecting. Generally the solution is to turn off the car and turn it back on. I wish there was a power button on the stereo unit itself to reboot the stereo without having to reboot the car. When in Bluetooth, Guidance is not a separate volume control. There's only one volume control for Bluetooth. However that is not using Android Auto.. With wireless disabled, connecting phone via USB cable, Android Auto stops functioning and indicates to get the time to match between the stereo and phone. The stereo does not allow me to manually change the time. And it will not sync the time with cell phone connected via USB. I clicked on the browser and it gave me a gray rectangular box across the screen. Turning off the car, even overnight, did not help. A day later, it came out of its coma somehow. These are just a few of the issues I’ve had. I called Pioneer support and they do not provide tech support on the phone. They said the only thing I can do is to uninstall the stereo and send it in to one of two service centers. My worst nightmare. I have 30 years of IT so I feel sorry for anyone who buys this flaming pile of crap and tries to get anything to work. ... show more

  • Not the best for older cars.
Got this to install in my 1995 Toyota Sprinter import. Having previously installing an AVHNEX4200 in my 1991 Toyota Celica I can say I enjoy that radio much more than this one due to physical controls. Now for more modern cars where the radio will probably be higher up and closer to the driver this might not be as big of an issue. Also being installed in a RHD car doesn't help things as the controls are even further away though not the fault of the radio. So basically I'm always having to use the remote to switch tracks and control volume normally I bin the remotes that come with radios but in my use case its absolutely necessary. Wireless Android Auto is nice if not a bit buggy (but in my experience so is wired AA) ... show more

  • Impressive head unit. Update firmware immediately.
I had this installed a couple of months ago. It is worth every cent and probably more. Massive upgrade for my use-case. Having wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto is an ergonomics game-changer. Less time fiddling with Google Maps on your phone means more time looking at the road. Its ability to pair with a rearview camera means parallel parking becomes a cinch. Having HD radio support means you don't have to compromise on audio quality. I added a steering wheel control adapter to this and it generally worked OK. There is an edge case in usage where if you're using Apple CarPlay and listening to the radio at the same time and you cycle to another station the head unit will cycle amongst all the preset stations indefinitely until the mode-change button is toggled. It definitely isn't the steering wheel controller causing the issue since it only happens in that one specific situation and nowhere else. Thankfully I can say with certain confidence that after upgrading to firmware version 1.30 this singular bug has disappeared. The head unit has an HDMI input which I will be using to plug in a Raspberry Pi running Retropie to replay some top moments with Eddy Gordo on Tekken 3. This head unit has tons of inputs and outputs that should leave most vehicle A/V aficionados satisfied. ... show more
