Purchasing the Metra harness kit and the DIN install kit, this was a super simple install in our 2008 Subaru Impreza and I completed it in about an hour. I had a Pioneer in my previous car and a JVC in my current car and here are the reasons why I chose Pioneer again. 1) This one has a mute button and a display off button. Doesn't seem like a big deal but there are times where I want to just drive with no distractions and have to use a work around in my car. 2) I have had some issues with my JVC in my car in the 10 months I've owned it. Specifically it does not work properly with some models of phone in Bluetooth mode. Also had a few times where it has flaked out and work properly or at all without a factory reset. In the 3 years I had my old car, I did not have a single issue with my Pioneer. 3) It came down to a decision if we wanted apps for Pandora and iHeartRadio or not. Honestly 1) and 2) were much more important to me compared to giving a thumbs up in a Pandora app. The one drawback to me was that it only has a 5 band EQ versus the 11 on my JVC. Overall, the sound of this unit is much better than the stock radio that was in the car and the wife loves the bluetooth. We have had one issue with it that the phone number pad access is grayed out. Not sure if we are doing something wrong or a setting needs to change or I need to actually hook up the e-brake sense to the unit. ... show more

    • Great functionality for the price
This replaced the old CD/Tape deck on my 2005 VW Passat. After a bit of work to get the right wiring harness and steering wheel control adapter sorted out, the unit works just fine. I really like the background color theme changeability, as I can make it match the tone of the faux wood. The unit looks like it belongs with the car. Programming was easy and the buttons and functions are intuitive. The built-in microphone in the upper left corner of the unit easily picks up driver voice for hands-free phone use.     • FANTASTIC budget stereo...but TERRIBLE for cars with Red dashboards!
Well, it's a good budget stereo, I'll give it that. It's a very durable Pioneer product as one would expect from all of their products. Sound quality is good, the touchscreen interface is very responsive, and it's an all-around good stereo. Unfortunately, despite this being a 2016 model, it lacks the ability to update the firmware or even do something as basic as change the color of the buttons on the side. It really is beyond me that someone at Pioneer thought the background color is a good enough "feature". I blame myself for not investigating this particular model further, but buyer beware! If your car has a red-colored dash, this will stick out like a sore thumb. Really, the blue colors of this stereo absolutely killed it for me. If you're like me and like the aesthetics of this model, you should absolutely go with something like the AVH-X3800BHS. It has all of the features the MVH-AV290BT comes with, plus other things you'd expect from a stereo in 2017! If you're OK with not being able to change the button colors or update the firmware, this might be the stereo for you. It's probably the absolute cheapest double-DIN stereo with a touchscreen out there that is made by a very reputable company whom I will gladly continue to do business with as long as they're around. But seriously though...who would ever use the GREEN background with blue buttons?! Why even give anyone the illusion of choice? I genuinely thought my model was defective, but nope, it was a design choice! But hey, if you have a car with a prominently blue dash, this is the one for you! Go for it! ... show more

    • Great stereo for the price.
Awesome stereo at a great price. Only issue is the backup camera we bought doesn't want to play nice with the screen and doesn't always work. Since I don't know what is causing this, I can't review it poorly. It could very well be the camera itself. As far as the stereo goes, it receives stations well (yes,we are old and still listen to radio), plays USB thumb drives great, connects to multiple devices at once (our other vehicles stereo will only allow one) & the Bluetooth works great. I bought this for my 1996 Toyota 4Runner Limited. It fits perfectly. Installation was very easy and straight forward. It uses the mounting brackets from the factory radio. This does not come with the pigtail adapter so don't forget that. I found the one I needed on amazon. *Metra 70-1761 Radio Wiring Harness For Toyota 87-Up Power 4 Speaker* It sounds very good and definitely an improvement over the factory radio. The blue tooth automatically connects to designated phones and connects quite quickly. Over all this thing is awesome. Im considering buying it again for my Ranger. ... show more

Thats about all I can say. Bluetooth works. Radio works. USB playback is odd. Cannot add custom background images like most other Pioneer models, the Weblink app is mostly useless on Google Pixel 4, your mileage may vary. I actually don't think this model, DMH-A245BT, is meant to be sold in the United States, unable to find it listed on Pioneer's USA model list but can find in a lot of SE Asia and Australia lists. Its functional and adds some modern features to an old car but hindsight tells me to spend a bit more on a better unit. ... show more

my boyfriend was able to install this relatively easily for me (he's a car guy and a programmer, so i don't know how easily i would have been able to do it). he took out the panels in my car and ran the microphone cable up to my rear view mirror so you can't even see it. its easy to answer calls and if you use siri, you can make hands free calls while driving. its really easy to pair with your phone and only takes about 30 seconds to sync up when you start your car. since i've had this installed i only ever listen to streaming music and audio books. i highly recommend this if you have an older car without an iPhone adapter. ... show more
