The packaging these pens came in was squished because they were shipped in an envelope instead of a hard box. The pens survived, so I don't really care. Some of the pens are spread throughout my house, but I believe 12 came in the package. This is a really good price for these pens compared to other amazon deals and brick-and-mortar stores. As for the pens themselves: PROS I love how they write. The ink comes out very smoothly, even compared to micron pens. It is nice and dark, but doesn't stain through paper. Even in cheap notebooks I can use both sides of the page with this pen. The ink is dark and doesn't fade over time. As a lefty, pens can smudge horrifically. The pens don't do that, and I write extremely quickly. The only time they smudge is when I go over a line several times to darken/bolden it and then immediately rub over it with my hand. I use these primarily to take notes during class. Compared to other pens, I feel like I write more quickly (due to the good ink flow) and more neatly (because the pen doesn't drag/catch on the paper). These pens have a very thin barrel compared to other pens, which I like. They don't feel heavy, and I feel comfortable writing with them for long periods of time. These are now the only pens I buy for writing purposes. I also like that I can see how much ink I have used in a window on the side. CONS When I took these pens in the airplane, something inside broke. This damage isn't noticeable until you start writing with them and the ink comes out much more quickly than usual. REGARDING THE COLOR (and other colors) The pens I got were all black, but as note for people looking into other colors: The red and green are great colors. The blue is nice and dark, but is more visible through the backside of the paper compared to the black. I can not write on both sides of cheap paper with the blue pens. Why did you pick this product vs others?: Wanted pens that provide clear black characters, and do not blot. I picked this over Sharpie Gel which I cannot use without blotting. So far these Pilot pens seem good.

    • Not a Micro Point, Not .25 mm (Great for a Fine Tip Though!)

I suppose I'm the idiot for taking a chance on these pens, since a couple other reviewers noted that they didn't get the product they expected. Nonetheless, the day I placed my order, the product description said "Micro Point, 0.25 mm" and the product specs said "Extra Fine .25 mm" and I figured that the substitution of a .5 mm pen for the advertised pen must have been a thing of the past. I figured wrong. These pens have a tip twice the diameter they state having! That's like ordering a T-shirt size Medium and being sent an X-Large; yes, technically you could wear it, but it's not at all what you wanted. If you are looking for a "Fine Tip" rather than an "Extra Fine" or "Ultra Fine" or "Micro Point," these pens are great. They do write cleanly and smoothly, have a true black ink and resist fading. In fact, they are probably one of my top picks for a 0.5 mm pen. I've owned these pens in the past (and do again, apparently!) and haven't had problems with skipping or scratching, though they are prone to leaks, so use caution if you travel with pens frequently. These are lovely for a 0.5 mm pen; they just don't cut it for a .25 mm pen. Edited to add (2/25/11): Awesome! Looks like the product description and title have been changed to read 0.5 mm! It still says "Micro Point," in the title, which it isn't. It's an "Extra Fine" pen and still excellent at being an "Extra Fine" but undeniably poor at being a "Micro Point." I've added two stars since the product I received is what it now purports to be. As I noted before, these are very satisfying 0.5 mm pens, but due to their tendency to leak I recommend them with some reservations. ... show more

The pen fits my hand perfectly. These pens write dependably and the ink makes my writing look professional. These pens never fail to write clearly without blotting and buildup.
