I walked into a Cartier store about a year ago thinking, "Jay Z sings about these guys a lot, but I don't know much about them". Quickly, I realized that I was not the target clientele that Cartier was marketing too but thought, if I wanted to get my foot in the door, where would I start? I figured that pens might be a decent price point. Wrong. Choking on my gum seeing the price of a Cartier fountain pen being around $700, I asked the sales associate, "Excuse me sir, pardon my ignorance, but what is the advantage of this $700 Cartier pen over my $2.50 G2?" He adjusted his cuff link, swallowed, said, "Um, well, uh, you see", then pushed a few papers to the side, looked at the $700 pen and gently said, "Well, you know, that, uh, well...the G2 is a really good pen". I like these pens, I was excited for these pens. I paid full price for new pens, because I enjoy these pens.... the package I got was not just open, it was cut with scissors, the top and side of the package was straight up gone, and it was taped shut with packing tape. The pens also have varying ink levels, so it’s clear at least some of these were used before being sent back. I’m not into it. ... show more

First off, I am very picky with pens. They have to feel perfect in my hand, they can’t make that scratching noise when writing, the ink has to flow perfectly, it has to be fine point, and it CAN’T be gel (I hate gel pens)! About a year ago, my favorite pen ran out of ink and I entered into pen hell....because my favorite pen was no longer being sold. That began my quest for a new favorite pen. I can’t even begin to tell you how many brands I went through, because I honestly don’t know. I would get a new one and it didn’t work for me so i would give it away. It was a vicious cycle lol. I had never tried the G2 pens because they’re gel, and as stated above, I hate gel pens. Finally, I had 2 different friends recommend them to me, both promising that they would be unlike any gel pen I’ve ever used. I’m glad I listened, because they were right! These pens met every criteria I had for a pen! I really think I like them much better than my old favorite! Normally, I only use black ink pens, because I don’t like blue. When i ordered the G2, I thought, what the heck, since I’m going against everything I believe a pen should be (not gel), I’ll order something other than black....so I ordered navy blue. These are great pens. But, I didn't look closely enough at the photo that showed all the different colors of ink included in the 20-pack before ordering. This pack comes with 5 pens with black ink, and 2 with standard blue ink. The pens of the same color are not lined up next to each other in the photo, so I missed the duplication. (I assume there are extra pens of these two colors, because they are used more often in writing.) If for some reason you need 20 different ink colors, you will be disappointed. I'm glad that it seems most other people are pleased with these pens, but I am not happy. I think the package I received must be really old, because many of them are dried out to the point that writing with them is not smooth at all, it's actually quite difficult to get them to write consistently. I bought these to replace the Papermate Ink Joy Gel pens that I have been using and loving. I was hoping like some other reviewers I would like the G2 even better, but I think I may end up switching back. I also plan to contact Amazon directly to let them know I may have gotten a bad batch. ... show more

I work for a police department which uses thermal paper in our patrol vehicles to issue citations/warnings/reports/etc. Each ticket I issue requires several copies to be printed, which I must pen in certain fields and sign. The person I'm issuing the ticket to must also sign one copy to acknowledge receipt. This leads to smeared ink over all copies. This is especially true when it comes to the copy I get back from the person. They tend to scribble their signature then quickly hand it over to me. If they don't smear it then I most likely will because I'm more concerned with being aware of my surroundings than ensuring I don't touch the ink. With that in mind I decided to hunt out the best pen I could find to write on our thermal paper with as little smearing as possible with a very short dry time. The requirements were simple: least amount of smearing with minimal time to set, black, and a click pen. My test was pretty basic. I would sign my rank, first initial, last name, and star number out, count to "2-one-thousand" then run my finger across it. Best pen I could find? BIC Soft Feel Ball Pen (http://a.co/agJkJdY) Pens which smeared more (no order): BIC Atlantis Original, Comfort, & Exact Uni-Ball Jetstream .380 & .5 Uni-Ball Vision RT Pilot G-2 05, 07, & 0.38 Paper Mate InkJoy Gel 0.7 & 0.5 Paper Mate InkJoy 200 RT 1.0M Rite In The Rain Maybe one day I will take a clean scrap of the thermal paper we use to post a picture, but for now you'll just have to take my word for it. The media could not be loaded. My absolute favorite pens - really smooth and beautiful lines and they don’t smudge as easily as the thicker varieties. Unfortunately my last two boxes have had a few dud pens that inexplicably get scratchy and ultimately unusable. I think that the ball point flips over or something. It’s really bizarre - comes totally out of the blue. To me, they’re still worth the occasional dud and I hope they’ll find a way to fix that issue in time. ... show more
