I originally bought this for general farm use, but it’s turned out to be really useful around the chicken coop. Instead of chasing birds around, I just use the board to guide them where I need. Chickens naturally move away from it, so everything stays calm and controlled without stressing them. It’s been especially helpful when collecting eggs. I can keep hens out of the nesting area while I gather them, which cuts down on broken eggs and makes the whole process quicker and a lot less messy. The size is just right, big enough to do the job, but still light and easy to handle. I’ve even had my son help out with it, and he’s able to manage it comfortably, which has been great for getting him involved in the daily work. It feels solid, easy to clean, and does exactly what you need it to do. Nothing complicated, just a practical tool that ends up being used more than expected. The media could not be loaded. I purchased this large pig sorting board with the rattle paddle primarily to help when assisting with stray pig captures, and I’m really impressed with the quality and usefulness. The plastic is thick and sturdy, it doesn’t feel flimsy at all and the built in handles make it easy to grip and maneuver. The size is excellent for creating a solid visual barrier. That said, it is fairly large, so someone with a smaller frame might find it a bit cumbersome at first. For me, the size is actually a benefit because it provides better coverage and control. The sorting paddle is a fantastic addition. It fits very securely into its holder and definitely won’t fall out on its own, which I appreciate. However, because it’s held in so tightly, it can take a bit of effort to pull it out and snap it back into place especially if you don’t have a lot of upper body strength. That’s not a dealbreaker for me, but it’s something to be aware of. The rattle noise in the paddle is loud enough to grab a pig’s attention without being overwhelming, and best of all, you don’t have to touch the animal to guide them. That’s especially important when working with nervous or stray pigs. I help out locally with a pig rescue, and this will absolutely come in handy for preventing pigs from wandering toward roads and for guiding them safely into a crate. At home, I have two older pot belly pigs who are even-tempered and come when called, so I don’t necessarily need this tool for them but it gives me peace of mind to have it. I also used to own goats, and this would have been perfect when they tried to ram with their horns. It provides a safe buffer between you and the animal. Although this review is for the large size, they also offer smaller sizes for other animals like roosters and chickens. I used to have a rooster who was not the friendliest, and honestly, having a solid buffer like this back then would have been incredibly helpful. This Pig Sorting Board with a Paddle is perfect for livestock handling. It protects you from any biting and kicking and also keeps the animal you are handling feel safe. It is a sizeable 30" x 47" and is light enough for just about anyone to handle. It has 2 handles on each end and 4 handles on the top side - so handling this is simple! It comes with an integrated paddle that can be removed easily if you need it and stored away easily with a simple snap onto the board itself - so no losing it! The paddle and the board are made of a durable and sturdy plastic that is a red color which helps with handling livestock. The paddle has a comfort rubber grip and the paddle helps scoot the animals along that need safe handling. This type of board reduces animal stress that occurs when humans try to grab onto them. Reduced stress is healthier for livestock and this set helps reduce stress! This board is also great for easy animal isolating or sorting. For example, when I get a chicken that needs her nails clipped, this helps to isolate her so I don't have to chase her around the pen and scare everyone. Highly recommend! I raise a number of animals on my homestead - but pigs are not among them. I breed chickens, which means that I have roosters to contend with. If you've ever had to deal with an aggressive rooster, you know how difficult that can be - especially after their spurs come in! I've used lots of things as shields, including buckets, bucket lids, lids from storage bins and sheets of cardboard. None of them work tremendously, as they aren't really meant to be handled this way. When I saw this pig sorting board, I figured I'd give it a try. It works very well! The handle openings along three edges of the board are easy to grip and that, combined with the relatively light weight of the board make it really easy to handle. The board is VERY sturdy, so I have no concern about a rooster getting through it. The included paddle makes it very easy to guide the rooster in the direction I want him to go. The rattling noise should help in training the rooster to move along. This sorting board should last me a lifetime! While it wasn't inexpensive, it wasn't overly costly either. And, what price can you put on protection from an angry rooster's spurs? ... show more
