  • It works but….give complete, accurate directions!!
Color: Black Style: 3 Device
It works fine, but there is a lack of clarity about the DVD set up. There is NO DVD button. Just TV, STR (for streaming device) and AUD. that’s it! No where does it indicate what button to use to set up the DVD. So as a process of elimination we tried the AUD button. It didn’t work. So somewhere in the many reviews/questions I found ONE person who addressed this issue. Basically he said you can use ANY button to program the DVD player as long as you use the DVD codes. So we tried it with the TV button and it worked. No thanks to the company provided directions. (BTW the AUD button did not work for programming the DVD. not for us anyway.) Would it hurt to be clear and complete with directions? Just say “use the TV button to program your DVD using the DVD codes”. Is it because everyone is assuming the DVDs will become functionally obsolete so why bother with a DVD button? ... show more

  • I am now in control. And lovin' it.
Color: Black Style: 3 Device
The remote for one of our TVs died, so I purchased the Philips Universal Remote Control to replace it. After a brief set-up I found that it controls the volume and channels. Works well, easy to set up, and does all I would expect it to do. It is very reasonably priced. I did find one quirk, when looking at the on-screen guide, if I wish to go from channel 43 to channel 45 it is necessary to press the '-' button as opposed to what I would expect, the '+' button. I have resolved this problem by holding the remote backwards and upside down during such operations. I have done some additional experimentation as to the universality of the remote. For example, I have found it has no apparent effect as a remote starter for my car, is of no value whatsoever with PowerPoint presentations during ZOOM meetings, and it cannot operate a lawn mower. In this I am bitterly disappointed and suggest revising the name to "Philips Universal Remote Control FOR TELEVISIONS AND CABLE AND STREAMING STUFF" (emphasis added) to avoid similar future disappointments to others. To close with positive notes, it does a fine job controlling the TV and Roku box in the kitchen, and that's great. And to my delight I have found it has a profound effect on my neighbor, R. Philips, who has just finished mowing my yard (the 'A' button), and next will be washing our cars (the 'B' button). I've yet to assign the 'C' or 'D' buttons, but I think leaf and snow removal may be good candidates, come fall and winter. ... show more

  • Saving Grace After Roku Remote
Color: Black Style: 3 Device
I have a Roku TCL TV and was worried this wouldn’t be compatible. Thankfully it absolutely is. I was relieved to see my TV listed on the code area. First code worked off the bat. The Roku remote is HORRIBLE. Like sheesh, redesign it, Roku. I had to press the volume buttons until my fingers were sore because it wouldn’t budge without an aggressive press down. Finally, I can save my fingers the trouble. It’s clunky and old school, but I recommend it over the Roku remote any day!! Update: decided to update my review to five stars because, though it's not modern (my only caveat), it's perfectly workable, easy to set up, and way better than my previous Roku remote (if you don't already see my extreme upset with it above!!). Definitely recommend it. ... show more

  • Never worked as needed
Color: Black Style: 3 Device
Comes with a paper insert of all these capability function codes. I tried several times, unsuccessfully to connect all functions as needed. I even had a friend try, to no avail. I gave up. I do not use it.

Replaced remote on my Sony TV. Instructions were very good. Only took 5-10 minutes to set-up. Works as good as the Sony remote.

  • Not as advertised!!!!
Color: Black Style: 4 Device
This remote is advertised as: 1) Best Remote Code Library - This Universal Remote Works With All Major Brands And Supports "Thousands Of The Latest Audio/Video Equipment". 2) Compatible Devices: Television, Stereo System, VCR, DVD/Blu-ray Player, "Home Theater" 3) Add a touch of shimmer to your "home theater" 4) Simple Setup - This Remote Comes Preprogrammed For Roku And Samsung Tvs NOT SO! I bought this to control my Samsung TV, my Roku Ultra, and my Yamaha "Home Theater A/V", since that is what it is advertised to do. IT DOESNT! The ONLY "Home Theater-A/V" devices it will operate, are the ancient TV/DVD or TV/VCR combos, and a VERY short list of sound bars. Seriously? Ancient technology to control a VCR???? As far as pre-programmed to operate Samsung Tvs and Rokus? No, it does NOT! And get this: even when I programmed it to operate my Samsung TV, the only functions it will do (like many others have said) is turn the TV off/on and volume up/down. Seriously? My Roku Ultra remote would already do that!!! Added to that the fact it has 4 "programmable buttons" (A-Yellow,B-Blue,C-Red,D-Green) but the Instructions DO NOT mention these buttons in any way, or how to program them. So, they are useless. As others have also stated, there is NO model number stamped on this remote anywhere. Its bad enough you would have to get online for support due to poor documentation accompanying the remote.... but you cant find support for something when you cant find a model number! The remote is lightweight and not designed well. The streaming device buttons are TINY and hard to operate. I have attached a photo to prove it. Look how tiny the streaming device buttons are, compared to the Roku remote. Not to mention, the "home" streaming button is so tiny, and recessed lower than the buttons surrounding it... that its almost useless. Philips USED to be a high quality company. They should be ashamed for putting their name on this. Im sick of ordering junk that isnt as described, and decided a long time ago to just return everything that wasnt exactly as it was described or advertised, which is what I am doing with this junk remote. Dont waste your time or money. ... show more
