Our family printer is in my office. I have Hue lights in the room with the 4 button controller on my desk. However, if it's dark and Wifey needs to print or scan she has to fumble to find where the button is to turn the lights on. She never expressed outright frustration, however the needle on the Sarcasm Meter was pegged, so clearly Something Had To Be Done before I found a standing lamp in my office pointing at the printer. Found this. I am annoyed that it will only control ONE thing: an individual bulb, a group, or the whole room. It only has two triggers: short push, or long push. Several short pushes will cycle through other options, such as brightness or color, but you can't make it control other lights individually, only the single bulb/group/room you chose. It would have been cool if I could have had it cycle through other lights, but I digress. The intent was for Wifey to easily see what she was doing without tripping over my briefcase or stack of random crap. I set it up for the single bulb on my ceiling fan that points at the printer. That way if she comes in while I'm working in the dark she can turn it in without blinding me and having me hiss like Bart Simpson after he signed away his soul to Lisa. I then stuck the small button mount to the front of the printer. Tested again, works perfectly. I called her in to show her the new lighting option she had. ("Where the **** do you even FIND this crap??") Had her turn it on and off a couple of times. ("Huh. That's kinda cool. Thanks babe!") Phew, Wifey is happy, sarcasm levels have dropped to normal, and I don't have to worry about being blinded or, worse, being washed out on a Zoom call. ... show more

I ordered this button mainly for my daughter (who is still working on potty training) to use to control the Hue lights in our bedroom on her way to the bathroom. Previous to having this button, our daughter would be heading to the bathroom but would end up stuck in the hallway asking for help becuase she wouldn't want to enter the bedroom if the lights were off. This left my wife and I scrambling to find a phone and fumbling to turn on the lights before our daughter had an accident in the hallway. The normal light switches are still a little high for her to reach and we prefer to not use them anyways since the Hue bulbs won't work if someone accidentally leaves the switch off. A couple days ago I was looking in to getting a remote (Hue Dimmer remote) to control the lights when we didn't have our phones on hand, and I came across the Smart Button. I really liked the simple design and the fact that it was magnetic and could be easily moved around without getting lost (hopefully at least, time will tell with a toddler in the house). I mounted the plate for the button, which is easy to hang as it has adhesive on the back of the plate, low on the wall by the door so that it is easily within reach for my daughter. I showed my daughter how it works and spent some time letting her play around in the app to pick out the color and brightness for the lights when she pushes the button. She loves that she has her own special button now, and going to bathroom even when the lights are off hasn't been a problem for her since. I have been considering getting more of these to put around the house for the various rooms as they blend in so well due to their minimalistic design, small size, and magnetic back and mini mount that allows them to be placed pretty much anywhere without really being an eye sore or nuisance. Having one of these by the bedside is seeming like a much better idea for when me or the wife get up at night and don't feel like fiddling with a phone just to go to the bathroom or check on our daughter. They can't dim or brighten like the Dimmer switch can, but since you can set different scenes to switch between with multiple button presses (including bright or dim lighting) that kind of makes it a moot point. I very happy with this little Smart Button and would recommend it to anyone who has Hue bulbs and is looking for an alternative to always having to have their phone on hand. ... show more

    • Best price for Hue buttons
After much experimenting, we decided to go with these buttons throughout the house to replace light switches. Unlike the Hue remote (vertical remote that looks more like a traditional remote) these include box covers that actually fit right on US style light boxes (yes, I know people are 3D printing covers on Etsy, but I don't like their quality nor the total out of pocket price with remote and cover). I particularly like that one of the pre-programmed options is to phase the color (yellow to blue-ish) based on time of day as you press the button. Effectively, you get all the same features as the handheld Hue remote, and you get more functionality than the Lutron Aurora (we have a few of those around the hosue too). The magnet in the button is great - we actually put the hallway button right on the fridge, which is more convenient than the wall switch that previously controlled the lights. You can also use the double-sided tape to stick the button anywhere else - which is what we've done for double or triple switch locations - replacing the old plate with a flat cover, and then sticking the 2 or 3 buttons on it (you can actually double up buttons, putting 2 on a standard plate, 4 on a double, and so on) The only weakness is that the included wall plate's magnets are somewhat weak, so it is possible to accidentally knock the button off the switch. We've used the double stick tape to stick the button onto the wall plate more securely. We've also bought a couple nice steel plates and used the button's built in magnet to just stick it to the metal plate - the button's magnet is quite strong enough to hold it to a solid metal plate (just like it does to the fridge). Functionality-wise, they synced up with our Hue hub easily, and have communicated consistently, even with cinderblock walls inside the house. Overall, these are pretty cool (and this 2-button package is the best pricing I've found anywhere) (BTW - one of the ranking categories is for motion detection. These buttons don't do motino detection (but there is a different Hue product that does, and it too works well)) ... show more
