Someone said the display is upside down. WRONG. In the US, the proper electrical outlet configuration is: GROUND ON THE BOTTOM. If the electrician installed your outlets correctly, you will have NO problems. I want to thank the reviewer who prepared me for the fact this timer really takes up two places. You might as well install it in the lower socket because if you use the upper socket, there won't be enough room to plug anything into the lower socket. I have several outlets in each room so that's a small price to pay. But if you're planning on having this timer share an outlet with another plug, you can forget that. Ain't gonna happen. Someone said this timer is hard to program. Poppycock! Just for the fun of it, I've played with the timing configurations, including ones I'm not using. They ALL work. And they're all EASY to program. I like this timer SO much, after 8 hours of usage I ordered two more !!! NOW MY RECOMMENDATIONS: The one drawback of this timer is the lack of ability to program based on the day. I use this timer during the weekdays to cut power during the time of the day when the electric rates spike. However, on the weekends I have to manually reconfigure the timer to stay on during those periods. Not a deal breaker but it would be nice to be able to set it and forget it. Another feature that would be nice would be the ability to program TWO different sets of intervals. Ex: For a certain portion of the day it would turn on and off every ten minutes. Then at another portion of the day it would turn on and off every hour. Of course, the thing is: people are ALREADY complaining this timer is too difficult to program (which it's NOT btw). So imagine the backlash if the manufacturers created an even MORE complex timer. ONE OTHER THING: I read a lot of reviews before I ordered this timer. And I was waiting with trepidation for this timer to arrive, expecting I was going to have a difficult experience getting it to work. So I have to tell you I was SHOCKED when I opened the instructions and saw how EASY they were to follow. Please DON'T believe the negative reviewers. This timer is a snap to use. I LOVE IT!

Edit 2020-03-25: Downgraded to 4 stars. Still a great value. Problem is that it can't switch among programs without getting confused. One of my uses was to run a heater. Heater on timed program. But then I'd want to turn the heater on manually for a time, according to the directions. Heater would turn on and off OK, but then the timer would not go into the program again, even when the display indicated that it did. Only recourse was to reset the device, reprogram the times, and use it in timer mode until I wanted to turn it on manually again. I wound up replacing the heater timer with individual buttons from my LHS for $10. Not as flexible as this one, but it always returns to the program after manual control. ---------- There are many uses for such a device. There is a boatload of timers out there...my LHS must carry 20 different ones. But none of them do settable cycle timing. I used this to help a neighbor who was called out of town on an emergency, and had spring flooding in his basement. I used this in conjunction with my Sears Craftsman Auto Switch. I had this turn on one piece of equipment, and the Auto Switch turned on a shop vac. The ON time was 1 minute, and the OFF time 2 minutes. That gave the vac time to vacuum up some water, and then allow it to drain when the vac turned off. The water levels were too shallow to use even a shallow water sump pump (we tried that first). We just mounted the vac squeegee tool so that it was in the water. This has been going for a week, sucking water from a dammed area near the leak, and draining it to the sump on the other end of the house, keeping the floor dry between. This repeating cycle timer is exactly what is needed. The only problem I found was that it got confused at one point, and would not let me change the cycle times. Recalling the directions about this possibility, I reset the device, and it immediately began working correctly. I didn't even have to set the clock. So I really give it a 4.8m I guess. I have wanted such a timer for some time, and am happy to find this one...only complaint is that it uses a rechargeable battery, and those tend to fail when you need them the most.

My son had to ice his knee 30 minutes on 30 minutes off with ice machine after surgery and using this device was perfect. We have used it for a few things after he no longer needed it and it is nice to not have to worry about setting alarms.

First some background: I bought this to replace a broken timer on a toaster oven The only functions I ever expect to use are "Turn On and Stay On" and "Turn On and Countdown to Off". And "Turn Off" of course. The unit is attractive and appears to be well made. It's internal clock appears to be powered by an internal, presumably rechargeable battery. There is no provision to change this should the battery fail to recharge as inevitably eventually happens with rechargeable batteries. The unit partially blocks the lower outlet when installed in the upper outlet and, of course, completely blocks the upper outlet when installed in the lower. After all these years, you would think the people who make these types of things, for example wall chargers, would have figured out a way for them to take up only one outlet. The unit is made in China (no surprise) and the instructions are in "Chinglish" as are email communications with the vendor. I found them confusing but finally figured them out (I think). Many of the functions require you to push two buttons at once which sets up a race condition: if you push one button first and then the second, the unit interprets it as a different function. For example, Always On requires you to push "Confirm" and "Timed" simultaneously. I you happen to push "Timed" a split second too late, the unit switches into some indeterminate flashing mode which I figured out you can cancel with the "Switch" button. There is no "Cancel" button but I figured out that the "Switch "button usually (but not always) serves that function. Another problem is that the buttons themselves are made of rubber and often do not spring back up after being depressed, probably because they are catching on the side of the housing. Thus, the unit thinks they are still depressed. Confusion ensues. Note that unless you are Tinkerbell, your fingers will dwarf the tiny buttons guaranteeing you will push them off center. Another problem is that if you are an old fart like me, you can't see the tiny writing nor hear the high pitched piezo alarm. You'll just have to fumble by as you do in everything else when you get older. In Countdown mode, the directions say push any button to stop the alarm. Wrong. Pressing "Confirm" starts the cycle all over again. Stick with "Switch". I experimented with the other functions like the euphoniously named "Interval Circulation Working Mode Per Hour". They seem to work after a fashion but I can't imagine a use for them. Maybe to turn your lights off and on to fool burglars. They just clutter up the user interface as far as I am concerned. In summary, this will probably sort of work for what I want. I couldn't find anything else that would. The vendors should hire a native English speaking technical writer to redo the instructions. As far as the Human Interface, you can only do so much with so many functions and only six buttons to work with.
