Philips Hue Bloom: I needed a light to wash out errant shadows on a wall in my video call space, and wanted one where I could programmatically adjust the color temperature and brightness. This fits the bill nicely — it's a Zigbee device that sets up painlessly with Home Assistant, and as with most Philips Hue devices, the color rendition is good. I can see this being used various places where it'd be nice to add a splash of light or color. The main thing I would have liked is if the base were adjustable — it's a tube cut at a certain angle, and there's no way to change that, nor an easy way to mount on a wall. It wouldn't have been hard to provide more flexibility. It also isn't a problem for my use, but if you're going to put this on a desk or something, think about where the cord is going to go. Unlike a bigger lamp that might sit at the back of a small table with the cord falling out of sight, this is likely to be somewhere where the cord will be running across a surface. Maybe that'll bug you. Maybe it won't. ... show more

The light is great, though it damn well better be after paying the Hue tax. Govee probably won't be far behind with a cheaper alternative. That being said, it doesn't feel like a premium product, it's very light, so even its own power cable knocks it over from time to time. They should have put a bit of weight in the foot to prevent this. For the money, it would have been nice to have had the cable more securely attached within the foot, and have it rotate so that it could face different directions without the cable being visible. Once Govee has a more fleshed out product line I will probably find it hard to stay with Hue, but for now it's as good as it gets. ... show more

This is actually our second Hue Bloom light, which we wanted to use in an opposite corner to brighten its dark nature. It’s the perfect indirect lighting that is flexible enough to change with moods and time of day, depending on how you set it up through the Hue app. My photo shows the light in the late afternoon at 58% brightness in a dark blue/purple hue. ... show more

I placed this on top of my kitchen cabinets where I have a bunch of empty bourbon bottles. The light reflects off the ceiling, wall and bottles creating a really nice atmosphere. I change it to the arctic blue in the evening which is like a really nice night light. In the morning, I turn on the bright sunrise, so when I get my coffee, I feel like the sun is rising and it wakes me up. I recommend it if you want a good backdrop light. ... show more
